Blizzard Copyrights "Cataclysm"

Category: Rumors Game: Default Posted on Jul 02, 2009 1:58 pm

Does a Cataclysmic surprise await?

The genius makers of World of Warcraft, Diablo and Starcraft trademarked the word "Catacalysm" this wednesday. The company is notorious for keeping mum about important releases and have not divulged anything as of yet. Speculation is now spreading across the internet on what this trademark will entail if anything at all.

Guesses have ranged from a new expansion for WoW, an entirely new game being produced or maybe a complex ploy to throw off the fans. It's speculated that "Cataclysm" will be the follow up to WoW because it is linked to a historical event in WoW's history called the Great Sundering. This event is why Azeroth was split into several continents, making for an interesting platform indeed.

Others have said that it may be a new game, the "new intellectual property" that Blizzard has been talking about. It sure does sound like a Blizzard like game. The trademark filed supports this because it covers the realm of online gaming, computer games and paper products. I can already see a thick pc box with Cataclysm on the front with a monster carrying a bazooka on the front! It doesn't stop there either, trading cards, mouse pads, strategy guides and coloring books all with Cataclysm emblazoned on it.

The last theory is that it's just a ploy to throw fans off. Blizzard had in the past trademarked Starcraft: Ghost, but its never come to fruition. What do mmositers believe this trademark will mean?

Interesting. Was the game that disappointing to not even release it after developing it?
