Ideas for a better MMO

Category: Gaming Game: Default Posted on Jun 30, 2009 10:06 pm

This Isn't all my ideas but ... overall there are still more possibilities in the mmo market that are not being looked at . What do we look for in an online game ? We look for mostly 3 things : customizing , personalization , and playing with others . Of course we want more than just that but to reach our custom , online , world we need to express some of these ideas . I wanted to keep some of these secret but if I don't make it into the mmo market , then at least these should be implimented in some games .

1st : More Customization than just Gear

By this I meen customizing almost everything about your appearance . Many of our games give different gear per every 5 or so levels . It helps us tell what level others are without checking . At the same time , we hate looking like everyone else ! Ooh , we get to change hair styles and colors when we make a char , but that gets taken away as soon as we wear a helmet ! As much customizing we do at the start , it doesn't matter once we have equipment ! To this I say let there be visual options on our gear too . Some guy and I might wear the same shirt but if we have a patch on the shirt or add spike to the shoulders , we become a little more different . Past the armor , the weapons should also have visual options to tell the story of what they do . For instance : a crossbow with bullhorns has more phys attack power than one with wings , which has a faster fire rate . Keep in mind , these crossbows are the same level ! Different abilities and stat changes have a physical feature on the weapon that'll let people know how they fight !! Everyone looks different and can tell more about what they do if we can see what they wear . Yes I know games are dealing with this already , but it feels more like a gun in CoD4 with a bigger scope or a minor physical change . Not really something that makes it look liek a different weapon .

2nd : Even More Customizable Sounds

I love when a game has a folder to drop music in for the soundtrack . Let's face it ! The music on games set the mood for the players . Now on our consols we have the ability to play our songs while we game so this is a major deal . I think we should not only have custom sountracks but also streaming radio stations available via the game . I'm not totaly sure about others , but I get tired of the music I already have after a while so I listen to some internet radio station for a mix up of songs . Imagine some radio stations featured by players and/or by the game company and you can check them all out ! You could listen to the game's stations or your friend's station ! Also I'd love for some of the special moves to have music change when you do them , but that goes into the next section . . .

3rd : Custom Specials

A few games dabble in this but I think it'd be great if you could merge elements of special attacks into a personal special ! Think about it . You have a special based off of what you have learned character wise before and it becomes unique . It could be something like and air launch into a ground stomp or a dash behind attack into a stun . It's based on specials you've learned before and you Choose to make them into a certain move and YOU CAN NAME IT !!!! Even past that , with the last part I wrote , you can even load a music clip to play when it happens . Of course more elements of your specials can come through than just 2 . It's just a starting point !

I have more Ideas than that but I feel those were the most impotant and something I haven't seen yet in mmos . Thanks for reading and hope it got you thinking of the things you want in mmos you haven' t seen either . Later !

Sad to say but having only unique game concepts like extensive customization is only to make it so much better.

More third-person shooters like S4 League should be made...not to mention games with better communities.

a better mmo? How about you wake up and look at Tera Online, Blade & Soul and C9 really wake up! Tera online by far the greatest mmo we will have ever and i cant believe it will be f2p, now all we have to do is hope for it to come out in US/UK/Europe.

Also City Of Heroes/Villains, Champions Online, DC Universe is all customization or w/e it is that you wanted DC Universe beats all those games btw.

@ domica

its people like you that make people feel small he's only expressing his ideal's and then some **** will come around and say shit its's already been thought of your low very low. At least people have the right passage of mind to conclude to his ideas saying either how it could be improved or not and the good parts at least that way he can get some insight into his thoughts but you just stating "EPIC FAIL" and "You fail at ideas" dont only not help the situation but belittle the people surrounding the article so grow up and start bieng more pre adult with your statements.

I like the ideas in the article bieng able to customise absolutely marvelous and so thought provoking but i dont think games like that would come anytime this year.

i think a better MMO is not having jackass running around calling ppl noob and ksing, im pro at some MMO game and i dont like calling ppl noobs or ksing them.

domica, your idea is no different either....

you wanna add a first person shooter game with a mix of RPG, and you don't think it's gonna have any 3D custom specials as well?

First person shooting + Fantasy = Halo

For awesome character creation, customization, and progression, look in to Mortal Online (http://www.mortalonline.com/). It may not be exactly what you're looking for, but it promises to be an absolutely amazing MMO the likes of which you haven't seen since Ultima Online.

Gadros: Look in to A.P.B. (http://www.apb.com/). All Points Bulletin is a sort of Cops and Robbers MMOFPS. Last I checked, they were planning on having instanced cities or matches that would host an upwards of 100 players. The character customization looks absolutely amazing as well.

Custom soundtracks and radio has always been around for those games that people care enough for to support. Now, I don't mean officially sanctioned, but swapping soundtracks has never been too difficult where it is possible. Also, there are several games that have a host of their own game-specific radio stations that play all manner of music, requests, and broadcast news regarding the game. While officially sanctioning this would be great, I don't see this as being #1 on my priority list on things the MMOG industry needs to get right.

Custom specials... Well, if you're in to that sort of game, then sure, but I personally much prefer something where there aren't specials per se, but simply a slew of combat options that you've developed for your combat style to give you the tactical advantage in any given combat situation. Naming? You can call it whatever you like and shout it while you're mid-match, but I don't think it'd offer up much of an advantage. It would really only be very possibly or practical in a game where you're fighting on a turn-based strategy-type platform. Of course, considering the standard MMO point-and-click hotkey crapfest you see so often, I guess it would work there as well, but that isn't a game I'd be very interes

You fail at ideas. You wouldnt be the only player playing. Therefore, "3d : Custom specials" EPIC FAIL!

The ideal mmo would be counter strike, wow, some rts , and second life combined.

Have an MMO like Grand Theft Auto where you can run around in an open city steal cars cause massive damage shoot random people....of course people are gonna think "It's just going to be chaos all the time"

Im thinking of having at least 4 huge city maps 2 city maps are safe zone, but you can still steal cars and beat up A.I no weapons allowed, and in the other 2 city you can just do whatever you want even start killing. 3 different choices on what you want to be

1.Bounty Hunter - catch the criminals in the town, either A.I or real players, (Downside to this class you can't kill A.I, you can beat them up tho)

2. Criminals - Cause some chaos and kill some A.I (Downside you can't enter any malls, you can go to underground markets but there stuff is more expensive and a bit low quality)

3.Police - Capture criminals or Bounty Hunters(Ones that crosses the line and beats up the A.I too much) unlike the other 2 classes this one starts you of with a weapon right away and car. (downside to this class is you aren't allowed to wear any other clothing except police uniforms)

I know this isn't really the perfect idea for an MMO but I thought i'd give it a shot lol

1. Check out Phantasy Star Universe, The Chronicles of Spellborn, Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine and Ghost X. I belive these games have what you are talking about.

2. You can absolutely always turn down the music of the game and use an external program to play your own music and internet radio stations while playing. As for the in-game radio stations - although it sounds good at first think about it for a moment. People play games because they want to play games and not because they want to publish a radio station. If they do - it will be better to do it by the standart means as being in the game 24/7 really sucks the life out of your computer. Another reason for this being absolutely ridiculous is the presure on the devs and publishers. They should take their time developing this radio system in the first place, optimizing it and getting it not to mess up the other systems they are doing and then  they should handle this huge traffic of radios that is coming through their server. It really brings some issues to the table, doesn't it?

3. As great as this sounds - it is imposible to achieve. The best games have several thousand ways to develope your character and there are hundreds of thousands of people playing them. It is imposible to make a system that can make up a skill that is unique for every character. Surely you can name your skill but after a couple of days there will be a guy with the same skill in terms of effects and animation, just a different anme, and the system altogether will become a sort of gimmick.

Customization(of gear, weapons, armors, sound, skills, etc.) is a great and important feature that will arrive in the very near future to meet the constant online gamers demand. However, it involves lots of money, an increase in number of staff in the development team and an increase in number of man-hours to develop a specific online game that developers will find it a problem(to meet tight deadline schedules from development stage to open beta release stage) at this present moment.
