Top 10 Reasons To Play Aion Online

Category: Default Game: Aion Posted on Sep 19, 2009 9:01 am

aion

As the last closed beta event ended last August 17, all eager hands are set for the game’s full release in September. The game enjoyed a major positive reaction from MMO players, switchers or newbies alike. If you  haven’t played in any of the past six beta events, then you don’t have that much idea about what Aion really is. Allow me to give you a quick rundown of the game’s major highlights and give you an idea what to expect from the game. (Arranged in no particular order). Read on the top 10 reasons why you should play Aion Online after the jump.

Background

Aion is an MMORPG developed by Korean company NCSoft. The game was first released in South Korea November last year, then followed by China on April of this year. It is set to be released in September to cater  European and North American audiences. Due to the success of NCSoft’s previous titles Lineage I and II, Aion has become the most anticipated game in South Korea ever since its announcement. At the end of 2008, it was  chosen as the “Best Korean Game of the Year” for its “epic scale, immersive story, and stunning graphics and sound design”. Now, it has become one of the most anticipated MMO titles for this year.

Story

The game’s story is set in the planet Atreia that was split in two due to the cataclysmic events involving the Tower of Eternity. Long ago, the god Aion, ruler of Atreia created the powerful dragonic Draken race to protect  the humans. Time passed and the Draken started to rebel against him, prompting him to create 12 Empyrean Lords. These powerful protectors erected a barrier to protect the humans from the Draken, which are later known as the Balaur. Humans later learned how to harness the power of aether, which enabled them to become Daevas – winged beings under the leadership of the Empyrean lords. Ten of these lords gathered an army of  Daevas against the Balaur while the other two remained to serve as guardians of the Tower of Eternity – the embodiment of the god Aion.

After a failed attempted peace talk initiated by the Tower Guardians, the Balaur invited inside the tower launched an attack, prompting the guardians to sacrifice themselves – severing the world into two. Then born the two selectable races in the game. The Elyos, pure angelic beings resided in the lower half of the world. The abundance of light gave birth to lustrous vegetation and majestic landscapes. Asmodians reside in the harsher yet alluring upper part of the world. Exposed to the tower fragments and the dark, freezing world, Asmodians evolved talons as feet, darker complexion and red eyes t adapt their unfriendly environment.

1.  Engaging atmosphere, beautiful imaginative environment.
Aion features a sublime, ethereal fantasy world, blending Eastern and Western cultures. It is as if you’re in a breathing, living concept art. As you traverse the vast world of the game, you’re sure to find eye-catching
landscapes, exotic flora and fauna, interesting landmarks and beautifully rendered locations. The weather and time of the day changes realistically, immersing players in the world. Players may also change perspectives at a roll of their mouse scrollers. You can zoom out for a full, third-person view of your character or zoom in for a full first person view of your surroundings. You can even view NPCs, enemies and other objects up close in full  detail.  The game is built with CryEngine, and NCSoft sure know how to fully utilize its power and bring the very detailed, high quality world to life – without requiring high-end PC components. Players using mid-range cards  should be able to appreciate the wonderful world of Aion even in medium-low settings.

2. Enhanced Character Customization
It is every player’s dream to create a unique character worthy of calling their own. Aion offers a powerful character customization tool that players can use to directly modify almost every aspect of their character. Aside from the presets, players can modify smaller details including the daunting yet rewarding task of facial reconstruction. Players can also define their characters’ heights – so don’t be surprised to see armored kids
running around with massive weapons strapped on their backs.

3. Partying Up Encouraged
You won’t be able to go far in Aion as a lone wolf, since some of the missions will require you to team up with other players, simply because the common mobs are just too powerful (even if they’re at the same level as you) or you’ll need to defeat insanely difficult bosses that requires several characters to take down. The party system of Aion is very effective and player-friendly that partying up with others never seemed to be a hassle. For example, players can share objectives and loot. If one quest requires them to kill a boss, it doesn’t matter who in the group kills lands the finishing blow to it; as long as all party members have the same objective, it will be completed or updated for everybody. Experience, kinah (game’s currency) and items are evenly distributed. Rare items are put up in an automatic dice roll, with the highest number declared the victor and the owner of the item. Besides, “elite” enemies drop high amounts of exp and loot, making party grinding a mutual benefit for everybody in a group. And with the variety of classes in the game, players will learn to take up their roles in the team and cooperate to win battles.

4. Characters have wings
Unlike in other games, wings in Aion are not just for display but for practical use as well. Though players can only fly on selected areas of the map, just find a slope or an elevated area and “glide” with your wings. This
provides an easier way of escape or faster way to travel. Later in the game, you’ll be introduced to aerial combat, where you need to fight other players and enemies while airborne. Flying (and gliding) in Aion is not long-lasting however as it consumes “Flight Time” (default is 60 seconds). It is replenished while on the ground. There are also some areas in the game where you need to fly to meet up certain NPCs and gatherables. Also later in the game, players can access more spectacular wings to attach to their characters, adding more eye candy to your beloved character.

5. Enhanced PvPvE (Player vs Player vs Environment)
Players can fight against other players in localized duels or even in larger scales of legions (the game’s version of guilds) against legions. Players can fight each other in massive battles taking place in the Abyss, the core of the broken world to capture fortress and take control of territories. Players can earn Abyss Points by killing players from another faction, killing the Balaur and other abyss NPCs, or doing some quests. These points accumulate and define the player’s Abyss Rank which unlocks more goodies and privileges – and of course, the boasting factor. These points can be also used for purchasing exclusive Abyss equipment to make your character even more menacing and powerful.

Aion0377[1]
The presence of a third, CPU-controlled faction in the game, the Balaur will surely make things a lot more interesting and unpredictable as they can choose to aid any of the two player-controlled factions or better yet,
join the fray and fight both of them at the same time. Besides, fighting ground and aerial battles above floating rocks against an eerie, bottomless backdrop should be mighty interesting.

all 10 reasons has been done by Perfect World for already 3 years now.

I'm playing PerfectWorld philippines using YaoJing class, thats the pet handler class ( Venomancer on PWI  i think) and I'm geting all benefits from all 10 reasons to play aion on PW for a long time now... and its F2P!

The only advantage that i can see here for Aion is the Cry engine that they use for the graphics which is impeccable.

Peace!

Gadros, you are obviousily a very angry person who really needs a hug and some english lessons. Your so consumed with being right that you are completley missing what others are trying to say. I am sorry you are poor and cannot afford to P2P. THat really sucks. But for those of us who can afford P2P Aion is a good game. I do care about people without money and donate a lot of my own time and money to charitable causes here in US and when I lived in japan for many years.

But when it comes to to my entertainment your inability or anyone elses to pay does not concern me. F2P is not free. If it was not for those people dropping insane amounts of money in those item malls the games would no longer exist. No one makes an MMo and does not expect to make money.

Welcome to the real world. You get what you pay for.

I wanna try and play it..^^ I think gamers are becoming demanding with regards to originality because almost all the games are desame.. They became so addicted that they already fed up on it and want to see a new concept..^^ I think Aion is also not original I mean it's an improved game too just like the rest as a lesson learn to the previous OL games... So still I'm gonna try it!^^

Not to rain on anyone's paradade here but this game is so much like WoW that I felt as if I was playing WoW version 1.5...  It's going to have a population surge and then die down after a few months like most other games that are like WoW without changing much...  I know "It has wings" and that's all people can say about why it is different, but it's so much of the same game that I can't believe it.  See the thing is, for those of us that played WoW, this is nothing new.  For those that haven't, they'd be better off playing WoW instead, that's why clones don't do so well.  I know all MMO's are similar, but things like Dungeon Fighter, Fallen Earth, Eve, etc all find ways to do things much different.  Fallen Earth and Dungeon Fighter are both pretty new and fun (Dungeon Fighter is free, 2d but is one of the most fun and different MMO's I've ever played).  Fallen Earth probably won't do well since it's subscription too, but Aion is just the same old same old unfortunately :/  I am sorry, I don't want to insult your game that you wrote about and you love, I mean really it is a nice game!  Just it's the same as I've played before, too much like WoW and every WoW clone I've played...

Top 1 reason to not play Aion, IT'S CLICK N WAIT! I'm so damn sick of click n wait games, there's no damn action all you do is grind all day to gain levels and there's absolutely no fun in that, i only enjoy click n wait games cause i meet new hilarious people everyday, children who rages over nothing, people who have a cool personality etc.

If it wasn't for chat system none of us would of played Aion or any other online game for that matter. Singleplayer is totally different cause there you follow a storyline, no not in Aion other games.

Anyways it's click n wait and i'm sick of it i will never ever play a click n wait mmo no matter how good it is, Only reason people like Aion is cause of the graphics and that's it, the rest is same shit as all other mmos.

Atm i'm playing Heroes of Newerth, it's strategy mind thinking and awesome graphics and it's taken from Dota so it's so damn fun! i suggest we all stop playing click n wait and move on to more fun games like DOTA, HoN, C9, Blade and Soul, Tera Online so on the non click n wait mmos shall rule the world :)

People don't realise that P2P is actually better than F2P. In F2P games you almost always have to buy cashshop items to have a chance on pvp and stuff and then the cash shop items stay for only a few day so you have to rebuy them later, so you still lose money. And the Service in a F2p game sux ass 90% at the time.

It's like your in a war...with yourself...

you said

"Honestly complain about p2p you obviously have no life. Because number 1... mmorpgs were never meant to be played continuously up to the point that that virtual world Is your life number 2 get a job get a life and you might not have a problem with p2p."

Your right MMORPGs are never meant to be played continuously up to the point where you start seeing it as your life. It should be about having fun right?  I've played a few P2P games awhile back my first one Ragnarok Online and 2nd was World of Warcraft and my last one was City of Heroes online, I learned that some games are worth to be made P2P and some were just not...
I think the point N4Guage was trying to make was, with Item mall systems in order to get any clear advantage out of it you will often pay way more in the item mall then a standard P2P monthly fee.  I have tried a few and was amazed at how fast the item mall bills can rack up. If you cannot afford to pump constant cash into the malls of the ones I played, good luck doing basic things like.. crafting, enchanting items etc. Your other option is insane grinding and buying cash shop items from players at inflated prices. So the moderate number of people on the F2P who can afford to go drop 50.00-100.00 at a shot in the item mall can throw off the balance of the game. Or Equilibrum as he said.

Trolling makes people not like you and often reflects what kind of person you are in real life. Just FYI
You still don't understand do you? People who can't even pay in the item mall won't be able to play the game in a P2P type. Your going on about how much you quickly spent on an item mall, it was all your decision you weren't being force to do it. I don't know what game your talking about, but I have have seen games that tend to use the item mall for it's own evil purpose, like Dream of mirror online[DoMo].

Pretty much what your saying is, "remove the poor people and let people with money play with themselves" is that how you really see the equilibrium?  That only says one side can enjoy the game. For the ones that can't afford Item mall stuff with real money can be sometimes bought with the money they earn in the game, some players sell of the items they buy in item malls.

What's even more confusing is that people are complaining about item mall in F2P games so they wanna move to a game that requires them to pay in order to play....There may be annoying players and w/e in F2P games but P2P has it's own down sides as well

Okay if you...

Honestly complain about p2p you obviously have no life.

Because number 1... mmorpgs were never meant to be played continuously up to the point that that virtual world "Is your life"

number 2 get a job get a life and you might not have a problem with p2p.

number 3 f2p is awfull most of them are cluttered with shopping malls and making you waste your money for no real reason at all.

So if you honestly complain perhaps you need a job buy yourself a 360 or a ps3 and waste your money on download content so you have something to do.

And honestly Aion is probably the "1" mmo i agree with that should be p2p.

Aion online was created to become a wowkiller, lmao the term wowkiller is amusing, because wasn't wow made for american's in the first place? it just became widly acceptable, and you can't hate on a game thats p2p, it usually has a better admins lmao. But aion is still overly hyped, you'll find some other game and than people will get overhyped about it. Regardless of where you go you'll always meet retarded people, hey just cause their retarded doesn't mean they don't have money. But what they need in some games is the option of the original voice cast, the dubs are just horrific they'll make your ears bleed. In a sense Aion did do a good job for now..

4th its not 1st mmo with wings where ppl can fly

5th also not 1st

6th wow awesome... You can make store wooow

7th thys one is nice but AoC have ncie system also

8th also not 1st p2p mmo with many quests sorry

9th yes its good, but not great or unique

Best thing about P2P is no F2P gamers. Whiney, annoying, immature and poor social skills is whats driven me out of the F2P market. F2P communities are awful. I tried a lot of F2P games when I decided to break from EQ and WoW initially and I cannot say anything good about it. F2P games lack content, customization, origionality, features, and solid gameplay outside of the occasionally mildly creativie PvP system.

IMO TOp reasons to play Aion

Solid Graphics

Established Developer

Great twists on established systems

Customization

Content

and...

again

NO F2P GAMERS!

Lol wtf....? There's a huuuugeee Flaw in that logic of yours, if people  couldn't pay money in a F2P game to get item mall stuff  what makes you think they can play in a P2P game? play equilibrium...lol...pretty much the people who can afford to buy stuff in Item mall are the only ones who can play this game and the others who couldn't won't be able to. Your talking about "people with money has the advantage with Item mall" They also have an advantage on players who can't pay to play this game....At least in F2P people with no money can still enjoy the game or even at least play it.

* The game got amazing graphic.

* Pet Master, When you attack a mob, your pet don't actually attack it but they wait until the mob hit u once than that when they will attack the mob. (Or otherwise unless you manually use the pet attack icon.)

* To be a greatest game that beat wow. (this game will still need a lot of impromvents.

* I totally understand that this game had not yet been come out and wow had been out for like what 4-6 years. Let see if time will make this game better or fail like AoC.

1. Because it's P2P

I'm definitely going to be playing this game, but I have to say one thing. The game is not that "original"... pretty much everything listed above has already been done. However, what makes Aion special is that it just does all of these things we have seen and done a lot better. The world is beautiful, the animations are smooth, the skills/classes are varied, there are a lot of things to do at all levels, you can choose how YOU play (in my opinion this game does not force you to party, at least not up to level 14 that I got to), and best of all is that you don't ever feel like you are grinding. A lot of the quests are fairly imaginitive, and there is even a nice narrative/cutscene to go along with important story-based quests. I have to admit, I felt like I accomplished more in this game from level 1-10 than what I ever did in other games going from 1 to MAX level. Yes, the game can be challenging, but there is typically a method or strategy to be able to do it completely on your own if you choose (healing pots are your friend lol), just remember that certain skills have a defensive role that add more to your survivibility, while others are strictly more offensive. It is your job to find the perfect balance for each situation.
