Over the Summer I have been avoiding any f2p games and instead stuck my nose into some serious old school games from almost a decade ago. If you like please suggest a f2p game for me to try (I might even review it).
Here is my 10 favourite Old School Games =)
10. RUNESCAPE Classic (2001)

Laugh all you want, Runescape classic is simply...man what was I thinking back then lol. You are a poorly drawn human punching cows and slicing goblins in a chop like motion. The weapons lack ..well graphics. Dagger or 2H all look like colourful sticks and you move like a cripple (literally you do). But nevertheless it takes a lot of imagination for the game to come to life and with the help of some friends you can probably enjoy this nostalgic game and get a good laugh out of it =). *You need an account that was created during Runescape classic to play this*
9. Age of Empries II (1999)

13 civilizations, legions of armys and hours of strategic gameplay. This is probably the most strategy intense game I ever played and it takes hours to finish. The longest game I ever played was 5 hrs long. Heck there is so much to do and it requires so much attention that you can't even go to the crapper ( unless you have a laptop. It is kinda awkward though).
8: Ice Wind Dale (2000)

Remember those old school rpgs were you don't have to take shit from anyone? Well this is one of those fun games. You can rob anyone you like, kill anyone you like and the freedom to pretty much do anything is really appealing (Timmy gives me a shilling to kill an ogre? How about I kill Timmy and take the shilling). The skill system is quite complex and everything from damage to armor is sorta like DND. If I have to say, this game has a pretty big difficulty curve and shouldn't be taken lightly
7: Starcraft (1998)

Enough said. Don't need explainations for this game
6: Chips Challenge (1989)

Does anyone remember this game anymore? This is probably the most ancient of games on the pc that I can remember. Back in the early 1990's this was all the rage. Your a boy named chip and for some crazy reason you have to escape these rooms by solving puzzles and obtaining keys. Tough game but very addicting (Chip you bastard !!! I still haven't beaten this game yet and I use to play it for like a year)
5: Diablo (1996)

This is probably the first big blockbuster multiplayer RPG ever released on PC. Released back in 1996 it was an instant classic. Battle through 16 dungeons with your friends to slay Diablo and cleanse the town of evil. There are 3 sexy classes, Warrior, Rogue and Sorcerer. You obtain skills by finding spellbooks which can be upgraded (by gathering more spellbooks) and level up to obtain stats. Maybe you might lucky and find a grandfather sword (oh ya. Best sword eva).
4: Thief: The Dark Project (1998)
You are obviously a thief (as the title mentions) and most of the time you have to infiltrate a building to steal something. It was like the Assasins Creed of the late 90's, except your in first person view, not acrobatic and armed with a club and a butter knife (not literally). Trying to combat head on is like suicide. 3 heavily armed guards vs a dude with a butterknife usually doesn't look favourable so it really emphasizes on stealth.
3. Half Life (1998)

I don't think anyone can forget this game back in the late 90's. A unique story with our silent protagonist and amazing weapons like the snark (love those things) it was no wonder people really got into this. Overtime it helped lead the way to numerous mods which later became blockbuster hits (Day of Defeat, Counterstrike, Team Fortress, Natural Selection)
2: Everquest (1999)

This game probably lead the way to hardcore mmo gaming. You have 14 classes to choose from, a full 3d environment, and now over 15 expansions (it is still has ongoing development and a new expansion to be released for 2009). It has been 10 years since its release and it is still going strong with a dedicated community and constantly updated content. One of the few active old school mmos out there.
1. Diablo 2 (2000)

By far my favourite of all old school games. 9 years old and still one of the biggest communities out there (active and alive). One of the big selling points of this game was free multiplayer service and easy hack n slash gameplay. Almost anybody could play this game (even 4 year olds). You had 7 characters to choose from, numerous skills and ease of use gameplay mechanics (like waypoints and the stash). At the time of its release (2000), it was the fastest selling game in history. Give it a shot and I am sure you will get hooked.
