The Misunderstood Healer

Category: Default Game: Default Posted on Jul 03, 2009 8:47 pm

Ok im going to say this now lol this is just my opinoin about the Healer role in games.

The Healer they go by many names Bishops, Priest, Cleric, White mage and many more.

But Do we really know About them.

Yes the people that stand in the back. Yes the people that you sometimes think leech off exp. But lets look past that, the Healer is a main part in your party they are the gas that keeps the car running.  If it wasnt for them your party would end up like this.

 <---- (Whitemageless party)

Yea you dont want that happening to you and your party.

Playing the healer is also a stressful job the life of everyone in the party is in your hands. and its there split sec. decisions that mean life or death for you.

The White mages arsenal of skills are amazing in any game but that one main skill that we all need is Cure or any spell that has an effect of restoring HP. Without this skill and many other just for an example raise or any skill that can revive a player, most parties are doomed to fail (not all just most.)

Hmm lets create a sceneario say this is happening to you. you are a warrior and your taking all the damage for the 3 mobs that

are attacking you plus 2 more that aggroed onto you. the other party members are trying there hardest to help keep you alive by

attacking but you and you party end up getting wiped. hmm ouch <(x.x)o-(^.^q)  now lets replay that but add the healer that stays

in the back.

So when your in a party think for a sec. do we have a person to heal us?, are we gonna be ok?

also think about if you were in there shoes. how would you deal with the stress? Maybe these questions will help you understand the role of a healer alittle more ^^

My pictures were all from FFXI but my message was leading to most healers in all games.

To all Healers KEEP AT IT ^^

Well, I have only played Ragnarok Online properly out of all MMOs, but i got never yelled or flamed at. More like, got compliments. Sure it was a stressful job but I liked it, there was always something new to learn to improve yourself being a better supportive priest.

Some of the things that i can say about whats annoying playing a healer is. . . .  .

1st off in alot of games healers needs a party to level up and ussaly most of the parties you get are people who are just ready to greed all the loot that comes from mob's like you can somehow live and keep going without pots to replinish mp or whatever you need to use heals and protection spells.

2nd if you do raids its really messed up to get into a raid where they think you alone is gonna keep everyone healed and I am talking about raids with so many people it takes probly really about 3 healers to keep them alive working together.

3rd people tend to not want to let you into parties becaseu at lower levels your not one of the best healers ever and I have seen people of same level just laugh at me and get like a healer of higher standard to heal them one thats way byond thier levels.

Honestly right now playing a healer in WoW is probly the worst I have tryed heck they really make you need  a party and when you cant get any your just stuck dieing alot to slowly make your way to the next level.

You forget to mention something which I want to say here. About healer, usually people will think of job that belongs to girls to play, but please there are boys who also likes to play healer alright? I say this for those who has badmouthed about healer job especially when a boy who likes to play as healer. I myself likes to play as a healer because I dont really like fighting much, and if want to fight I like to use magic, but I prefer heal and buff with some magic skill, so healer is the best for me. But I suffer to play as a healer because of few things: (1) Most of the mmo healer is fixed as 'female' character. (2) Some shithead just think of people who play as healer is sissy. (3) Most people just never appreciate healer. They need us when they need it, and when dont, they can simply pawn us and laugh at us. So result is I never realy enjoy playing as healer and thus makes me never realy enjoy playing a mmo, because at the end either I will be flamed a gay or sissy playing as a female healer when I honestly tell them Im a guy, or people just likes to bully me for pk me.

that is very true and thank you so much for bringing that up but weather or not the party will most of the time need a healer and yea on alot of mmos i was stuck as a girl but ehh i did my job if the bullied me i would just go get another party cuz they were not worth it

My main job is a whm in FF XI. Yes it is stressful sometimes especially if you are partying with no or have a red mage that doesn't no Refresh to help with the mp consumpiton. I also play a Doc on Dream of Mirror and it gets stressful when the merc.  (tank) in your party has a sucky build.

With white mage if you are high enough to cast reraise on yourself if you die during the fight But anyways thanks for sticking up for us healers

To be honest. . . I find it funny when people blame the healer because it was more then likely not their fault, if it was then everyone knows it instantly  in my exp.  Sometimes the tank loses aggro. .the mob 1 shots a dps. .thats not the healers fault, the tank was stupid, or the dps wasn't watching threat. . . things that I would consider the healers fault is: Just plain not healing (yes. . . this has happened to me), running out of mana or whichever type of reasource it takes to heal extremely quick with no real effect(over healing like crazy. .) theres more thats happened but it is late and I can't exactly remember everything lol.   But anyway if the healer is forgotton at any time your with a bad group I'd say.

most groups when i play like to use me as the blame lol

Before archer/hunter became my first choice in whatever mmorpg, I used to roleplay healer in Priston Tale, and MapleStory. Yes it was a stress job to protect your teammates. I believe in the current most successful MMORPG World of Warcraft, the pressure and challenge the priest faces are the biggest, I have heard a lot of those healing players being yelled and blamed just because of a tiny mistake occurs. Well that's why I quit healer class, I mean hardcore players are always requested to be full control of the character and misplay can't be tolerated. Since I realize I'm not that type, how could I countinue to bear the stress and save those ass who probably refuse to reclaim their misunderstandings.
