| Capcom announced today that its developing Plunder for the Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network and PC. Developed by Certain Affinity, known for their previous work on the Halo series, Plunder is a real-time multiplayer strategy game that puts players in command of a pirate ship with the goal of destroying your enemies and capturing towns for your pirate faction. Plunder is currently scheduled for release this summer. “With Certain Affinity at the helm, Plunder has the makings to be an instant classic for the downloadable games market,” said Nique Fajors, Vice President of Marketing at Capcom Entertainment. “Plunder will engross players with its intuitive online multiplayer gameplay, captivating replayablity, and a planned price point that will be lower than most MMO’s monthly dues.” “Plunder goes beyond the next generation, from 3D to 6D, with cutting-edge hex-based environments that make traditional 3D games weak,” said Max Hoberman, President of Certain Affinity and former Lead Multiplayer Designer for Halo 2 and Halo 3. “If you only get to try one downloadable pirate Action / RTS this summer, check out Plunder.” |

How a desperate father fought demonsCategory: Default Posted on 2008-03-16 11:05:50 Add to Bookmark |

TWO YEARS At one stage, he had lost touch with reality to such an extent that he was no longer in contact with his father. Eventually the only way the pair could get in touch was for his father to use the computer skills of the gamer's young brother to create a character and send a message over the ether. Stories such as Arklore's will be told this weekend in Second Skin, the first movie to seriously portray the culture of games such as World Of Warcraft, known as WOW, in which more than 50 million people take on the characters of wizards or warriors and join a struggle between humans and orcs in the kingdom of Azeroth. Once the stamping ground of lesser spotted virginal adolescents, the population of virtual worlds now almost matches Britain's. Having worked his way up to be head of a "guild", Arklore now leads massive 40-person "raids", battles which the whole group take part in simultaneously. He said: "Sometime I would get home from work at five and play until three the next morning. I don't feel I've wasted my life, although I'd be lying if I said I hadn't turned down a Friday night out to go on a big raid. I once said that I would never avoid soci |

Blizzard Unleashes a Zerg Rush of New InfoCategory: Default Posted on 2008-03-09 10:56:24 Add to Bookmark |

| At an event tonight in Seoul, South Korea, Blizzard finally unveiled the upgraded version of the third and final race for StarCraft II -- the infamous Zerg. Returning units for the alien race include:
In addition to these confirmed returns, numerous new units were revealed. Roaches are a new low-power, fast moving starting unit. Infestors take the place of the original game's Defilers, using the same Dark Swarm special ability as well as new Disease and Infestation abilities. The Corruptor is a new anti-air unit that doesn't actually attack flying baddies, but "corrupts" them, forcing them to fight each other. The Guardian has upgraded into the Swarm Guardian, maintaining its strength against ground units while gaining the ability to hatch Broodlings. Along with the new units, Blizzard debuted what seems to be a new type of creep that some early reports are calling "Toxic Creep." Not much information is known yet about how this creep is created (possibly via Zerg Queens) or what its effects are, but we're guessing it's not good for Terran or Protoss land units standing on it. |

Blizzard has included the first look at inscriptions via hidden entries in the patch 2.4 data files. Inscription will be a new profession that will be released with Wrath of the Lich King. We are treated to an early glimpse at the Demonic Runes inscription that will increase fire damage done by the MageFireball spell by 50 additional points. The data is courtesy of WoW Head. Quite a nice little preview at WotLK content. What do you think of this glimpse at things to come? |
