Short Story: 6 hours to Charleston, irritated, felt-up, Citadel, extreme heat, 2 hours to Myrtle Beach, hotel change, uncomfy arrangements, shopping, Boardwalk, more heat, shopping, more anger, JWU, hotel change, felt-up x2, Queens, 6 1/2 drive home
Long Story: At the beginning, I was in a good humor sitting in my designated seat in th back seat behind Dad, the driver. We pick up Sister, my aunt, at her house and this would be her 2nd vacation because of familial reasons. Though it is 3 pm by the time we finally start hour 6 hour trip to Charleston, SC to pick up Jacole from Citadel, it is warmer than my natural climate, like 85-ish degrees. We stop at a few rest stops blah blah blah. Now fully in NC, we stop at a Wendy's around 7:30-ish to eat, where my burger decides to drip on my pants. T.T Then we go on our merry way.
Its about 10 pm now and we still haven't made it to our hotel. Now I am irritated, because my legs are cramping (our green lego of a van has zero leg room unless your sitting driver or shot-gun) and I'm tired (I don't sleep well on the road). By the time we make it to Comfort Inn in Charleston, its about 11pm and I have to drag my two bags of luggage to the room.
When Mom opens to the door I see only 2 beds. Hold up! There's four people so far, Mom, Dad, Sister, me. I do not share beds with anyone but my sisters when I absolutely have to. If there had been a couch in the room, that's where I would have curled up. So we all dress for bed in the tiny room and I sleep as close to edge of the bed as I can. But I am awakened to an arm thrown across my abdomen. It slides down toward my back and slips off. WTH...my aunt just felt me. (I have a No-Touchy policy in effect at all times. I allow people to touch me, but during sleep, definitely not, unless it happens to be my husband ;) who is nonexistant at this point.) I didn't sleep the rest of the night.
At 8 am-ish, we check out and eat breakfast at Burger King. I am not a fan of it's food, let alone their breakfast. My orders me an egg-sandwich-thing and their nasty tator things. I only eat a couple bites because one: I don't like BK and two: I don't eat large breakfasts. I mean, I get full off of a PopTart and am good until lunch. So they all tell me to eat more cause I won't eat until after we get Jacole. I tell them over and over that I can handle it.
So, we make it over to the Citadel, which I called my new vacation home, because it looked like miny bleached castles. When we get to the center of the compound, we park and have to walk across the huuuuuge field of dewy grass to get to the bleachers. I'm wearing flipflops (I hear your gasps of surprise!) and by the time we get over there, my feet are grass covered and wet. The worst part of it all is that they put the bleachers facing toward the rising sun. It is BLISTERING hot now. Then the JROTC kids start marching out of the barracks to the far side of the field where there are trees to give them a tad bit of shade. I see Jacole...okaaay, let's go now! But the awards ceremony takes like nearly two hours and I am irritable. I am not a happy camper above 80 degrees. They march back to their barracks to undress and pack their stuff to go home. We wait an extra 45 minutes and pack up and leave for Myrtle Beach.
On the ride down, we all of anger issues, except Sister, but especially Jacole. Sorry it's not my fault you signed up to go pretty much to a boot camp in a furnace with a military-styled day. So after a few miles she eases up and starts to count mustangs, because that's what she had the other JROTC-ers from Atlee and Deep Run did for fun. So I start to, too.
There are a few stops to gas up, pee, and eat, then we make it to Patricia Grand, our hotel in MB!! We unload our stuff into our room, and I'm happy to see two beds, a wall bed, and a sofa. I'm thinking "There's enough space for everyone to sleep!" I think the sofa is a sofa-bed, but it's not, so I'm still in a good mood, because I think me and Jacole will share the wall bed, and mom, dad, and Sister will share the beds in the master bed room. Just my luck. Mom and Dad take up TWO beds in the master bed room, forcing Sister to take the wall bed, and I call the non-sofa-bed and Jacole calls the floor with her sheets. The hell I'm not sleeping with Sister again.
That day we laze around, me and Jacole on our laptops, mom and dad doing whatever they normally do, and Sister watched TV. Mom and dad went out and brought back pizza and went to dinner someplace. We all sleep eventually. I invent creative ways to sleep semi-comfy on the loveseat. Not a chance. Jacole slept on the floor near the table and the air conditioning, and she kept putting it on "Fan Only" meaning that the air wont reach me. I got up and out it on "Cool" but again she turns it down because she cold. Well, MOVE TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FREAKING ROOM! I'm burning up! That's how I would pass my three nights in MB.
Went to Boardwalk mall...outside mall...hot...mom found a shirt I thought was funny until it pissed me off when they kept going back to it. It was a shirt of a skeletal lady with a flowered hat on a park bench with the caption: "Still waiting for Mr. Right" I probably will never marry because of my pickness, but that's my decision ain't it.
Now my days are blurring together, so at one point mom, Sister, Jacole, and I were going someplace and we called an elevator, but mom forgot to take her medicine and had to go back inside to take it. When the elevator opened, it was full of hoooot guys. But we had to tell them to go ahead because we were missing someone. They even asked again, but we told them to go. Mom came out a second afterwards. SOOO ANGRY I didn't know what to do with myself than not talk for a while. I had to pass up a chance to have a reason touch a smoking guy in a full elevator of them! It should be a crime to pass that chance up!
Another highlight was when I went to the snack shop by the pools and this cute foreigner was the one running it. He spoke limited English, but it was so adorable~ And we was cute~ Later I had to come back down with Jacole to get some ketchup. He looked at me and remembered who I was~ *series of girlish giggles* But he was too old for me T.T
Eventually we would go to another mall where I just wasn't in the mood to be happy. It was even hotter this day, and mom kept walking into shoe stores and I waited outside with everyone else.
Then checked out and went to northern Charlotte, NC to see Jacole's college, Johnson and Wales Uni. She wants to be in th culinary field, and that's one of their specialites besides business and something else. It was an okay college, but I'm not going there so I didn't care either way. We check into our new hotel, where once again I had to share a bed with Sister, mom and dad in one bed, and Jacole in her sleeping bag. I sleep soo close to the edge, my legs are literally hanging of the bed. During the night, she felt my shoulder and tapped my butt. That was at 2 am. I sat on the floor until we left at 8 for breakfast. Also while I waited for daylight, I noticed my right foot had swollen. I possibly had twisted it or walked too much. I still don't know. Everytime I went to put my foot down, it felt like everything inside my foot was trying to burst through my skin. Gross.
But today was a happy day!!! We were going to see my college, Queens, before heading home!! This was the BEST part of the whole vacation. We got a tad bit lost on the way, because all the roads had Queens in the name, but later I would learn that following anything that says Queens will make you go in circles. The campus gave off a feeling of history and smartness. When we made it to admissions for the tour, I had my own one-on-one time with an admissions counselor. His name was Jordan and he's African American, realllly nice and cute (which is saying a lot for me). He was extremely easy to talk to and eventually we got to talking and a lady had to knock on the door to say that the tour was about to start. Too bad he's married and 7 years my elder. But touring the campus with a clutz as our tour guide was awesome. Like, I don't know. Just being there felt great. The only thing that but a slight dip in my excitement was that I had to take another 2 years of gym. But I could pick two sports I wanted. All I had to do was dress out and be present and participate. I would eventually settle for tennis and horseback riding (I've never ridden a horse! o.o) The only thing about this college is that I'm going to have to sign up for a TON of scholarships. My parents can't afford a car every year for me to go. Good thing is that Queens has a lot of opportunities for money. For one, if you have a certain GPA and SAT score, you automaticially get a certain amount of money each year for me, I had about 1500 on my SAT (add all three) and 3.75 GPA, so if I had applied and got in, I would be awarded $9000 annually. But the total cost of attending $124,000 - scholarship of $36,000 = $88,000 my parents still have to pay. So.........I need moneys lol.
Then...we went home. Happily ever after-ish.
