MMO Revolution: Meet the Peregrine

Category: Ramblings Game: Default Posted on Jun 03, 2009 6:32 pm

The WHAT?

The Peregrine. Hopefully, if all goes well, the Peregrine will be a gamer's best friend. The Peregrine is a glove that connects to your computer with 17 touch points on it. These can be used to have 30 combinations. Each combination can be reprogrammed to represent anything you want it to. Open a program, use a macro, etc. Each combo can be used by tapping the corresponding touch points on the glove using your thumb. The Peregrine is connected to your PC by a USB, which connects to a glove by a pod. But if you need to go get snacks or something, you can just disconnect the magnetic pod from your glove and walk freely. I know what you're thinking. Powerglove. YES. But it's much more comfortable and is activated using touch. It can also be washed in water if you somehow (More like when you eventually) spill soda on it or get Cheeto dust all over it. It's also quite stylish, if your the kind of gamer (like myself) who cares for that.

Fact Sheet

TriplePoint, the makers of The Peregrine, have released a fact sheet, shown here.

› Over 30 actions available at the touch of a finger
› Maximum comfort during long gaming sessions thanks to durable, flexible fabric construction and military-grade conductive traces
› Three sizes to fit the needs of gamers big and small
› Magnetic break-away USB pod so gamers aren’t leashed to their desks
› Customizable faceplate for a unique look
› Premium quality electronics and connectors to ensure a long lifespan
› Full compatibility with any PC game that uses the keyboard

How much are they? Where can I get one??

A fact sheet was released today during E3, which is stating the price of The Peregrine. Preorder price will be $99.95 USD, and after it ships, price will be $129.95. Currently, there is nowhere to get it. You can't even preorder it yet, but the ship date has been announced for Fall 2009. I'm honestly suprised that The Peregrine wasn't more expensive than it was. Seeing as the price is pretty low, I'll be picking one up just for my friends here at MMOsite! More info, including pictures can be found at theperegrine.com/

No pointing, sadly. Take your index finger and thumb, and touch the tips. That's basically what the glove's function is, just the touch points are also on the sides of your fingers.

Can it be used as a pointing device? If not then it would be of limited use in any game other than point-and-click mmo's because usually players will need their right hand on the mouse to point and click while their left hand will be on the keyboard for directional movement control.

No pointing capabilities. I believe it's meant to be used with your keyboard, seeing as its not that hard to use a keyboard and lift your hand up quickly to hit a point on the glove.

When the mouse first introduced, there are mostly people really cant get used to it. It needed so many years and then finally people nowadays know how to use the mouse, even my friend's grandma.

So if this powerglove is introduced, I bet even myself will not sure how to use it properly. This could be very unconvenient at the beginning, at least for a period of time, not to mention that if it will fail to deliver and accepted by the community. I remember I see somewhere else that there are alot of interaction design has been given up before they could be release to the world.
