Electro-Shock Therapy Cures Addicts? Fuck Off, Ass-hole!

Category: Rant Game: Default Posted on Jun 09, 2009 9:54 pm

CHINESE teenagers hooked on the internet are being subjected to electro-shock therapy at a clinic that claims they will be "reborn" free of the obsession. However, its harsh methods have caused an outcry after some of the 3,000 youths treated so far began posting their experiences - on the web.

Overuse of the internet has become a household worry in China. The country has more than 300m internet users, 40m of whom play online games. An official study two years ago claimed that almost 10% of the nation’s young people were "addicted to the web".

Thousands of parents who despair of turning their children’s minds back to school have resorted to Dr Yang Yonxin, a charismatic and forceful physician who says he has a “cure” - that's what we've heard about, the electro-shock therapy. For anyone who might agree with the shock cure of this sun off a beach, I will tell you how the "cure" works out:

1) First, parents are asked to sign their names on a paper  (agreement), which means parents have no questions about anything that the clinic will do to their children.

2) Then, patients will be given the first quick & violent shock, you know what? That's how the trick works, any child who is given the first electro-shock will increase the fear inside sharply, which they don't want to experience again!

3) Then the patients will do anything Yang tells them to do, as the media reported, kneel in front of their parents, crying, and tell them they will fight for the addiction. So the parents would thank Yang for his cure on their children.

The whole thing is set-up, the only reason Yang likes to do it is to make money. I can't find any other reasons. Do you have any idea how expensive is the so called cure? ¥7000-8000 a month, which could make a bourgeois family bankrupt.

It is an obvious shame that we have such kind of person on this planet and we have nothing to do but to bear his dirty business because of the law system distemperedness. If there is a hell, I shall be grateful, because Yang Yonxin is definitely the perfect one who deserves it.

This is sick. I would rather call this torturing. Do parents actually know what are they doing to their children? If they know so, i think they are bigger idiots than that doctor because they are allowing him to do his thing. Im really curious did that actually worked.

Operant conditioning at its finest. Electric shock therapy also helps treat depression. It's somewhat strange though, that addicted gamers are also had a much higher risk of depression than the non-addicted.

Addiction to games can present itself in extremely severe cases. Even to the point of threatening suicide if the gaming-centered lifestyle is threatened. Among such extreme cases in which these compulsions cannot be adequately changed, it may be a viable alternative. Among these extreme cases, gaming IS detrimental towards their social and mental development, and needs to be addressed.

I'd say I was "cured" too, as long as they didn't shock me again.

Shock therapy isn't a real "cure".  People get addicted to the internet because of certain things happening in their real lives that need to be fixed and changed.  Shocking them doesn't fix the reasons why they bury themselves on the net.

For some people who have nothing to do, the internet gives them a much needed place to socialize, improve their knowledge, just spend their time.

For other people who are really "addicted" where they should be doing other things, there is a reason they bury themselves in the Net.  Not everybody has a great real life, and sometimes it's easier to just find a better life online rather than try to fight and fix the horrible things around you.  Sometimes you can not change the life that is around you, so you just find a new one online.  Other times it's just easier to find a nice life online, rather than try to fix what happens around them in real.  Unfortunately people can be very mean and cruel, and force others to find a new life online.

It's true that video games are a way for *some* people to hide from problems, but if they just use shock therapy, the problems will still be there, and they would just find another way to hide from them.  The real thing to do is to find a way to fix the life problems, shyness, whatever it is that causes them to turn to the online world.

Addiction to the Net is not really because of the Net, it's because of their real life, and shock therapy just isn't fixing the real problem, sorry Doctor!

God, this is so stupid, I've never heard of something so horribly wrong in my life, and sometimes, it even renders parents into hypocrites! What if they say that this internet problem has to stop while they're lighting up a smoke?!

And another thing that brings my blood to a boil is that, yes, there may be some people "addicted" to video games and internet, I'm mildly addicted, but only because I'll be extremely bored if I had nothing else to do...except maybe write one of my novels, but I digress, atleast this kind of addiction can't...oh...I dunno...KILL YOU LIKE SMOKING!!!! Nuff said, thank you and have a pleasant evening.

There are cases of people addicted to video games but this is just wrong......What kindof retarded parents would put their children through something like this, there are better ways to get rid of the addiction.

if anything, i think this will increase addiction. it just goes to show how harsh reality can be for them so they will turn to something more fictional (the MMO in this case) because its less painful to experience. in fact, it will be their "escape" from the pain because they know they can't be hurt while they are there. if you want real shock therapy, the next time someone tries to play the game, just slap their hand with a ruler each time they're caught. this will be much more effective especially if a parent does it because they can be home at any time.

hum kinda sounds like what we did in america, with electroshock therapy, putting patients in ice cold tubs, spraying them with ice water, trying to numb or shock them back to "normal" It's not done so much anymore nowadays due to new research - sounds like china needs to catch up and read more recent psych research instead of following the old stuff

He is definitely the worst kind of evil in China. He is a criminal and a scammer he deserves to be send to jail for his sin. But another point of view, the parents in China are over too much stupid to believe for such 'cure', they have lost their mind to send their children to suffer for this.

Not parents' fault, obviously Yang cheats them. As Timesonline said, the key reason for adult anxiety is that most parents have only one child in whom all their hopes are invested. :)
