this list should be titled strongest anime "protagonist" ....and not anime characters...coz if the list will include all characters in any anime albeit minor roles...then the strongest would be any characters who portrays "god" in their respective worlds....like Enma or something..coz they have the power of life and death....not to mention most of them are immortal....it doesnt matter if Goku or any DBZ character can oblitirate galaxies, coz if their gods doesnt allow those galaxies to die, then DBZ characters are useless(something like Shenlongs power to resurrect worlds)....Goku, Yusuke etc. can resurrect coz their gods of the afterlife allows them to live again....gods have really minor roles in anime..but they are the strongest ..period!!!

As for everyone else's comments... Please remember this is a "strongest" poll... not "your favorite"... so quit crying that your hero from a mainstream anime didn't make the list. If you're crying about Naruto you probably know less about anime than I do.

I'm a Berserk fan, but comparing anime strength is pointless. Because they are only as strong as there popularity as well as there fictional environment will allow them to be, but to be a hypocrite it's a tie between the Skull Knight and Guts from Berserk.

The polls should be taken with a bit of salt people, as it was probably given to younger male audiences. There's been plenty of Deux Ex Machina showing heros like Dark Schiender, Alucard, Shiki Ryougi, A-Ko, and Gally/Alita that show more ridicluous power than most of this list, the first three being far more broken than Goku.

The best male and female characters in previous years were from Gundam Seed for Pete's sake.
