Game-focused school for Children comes this fall in NYC

Category: Random Game: Default Posted on Feb 18, 2009 12:03 am

Many kids and even some adults dreamed of a school where the curriculum is all about games. Now that dream is going to be full filled by Quest to Learn in New York by Fall. Quest to Learn is a new school that teaches kids from grade 6 through 12 all the ins and outs of gaming.

Quest will try to enhance ways of teaching their students by using digital media, games, online networks, and mobile technologies. Students will also be taught how to utilize and design these tools. Hopefully, this will lead the students to eventually take courses in computer programming, media arts, and game design. Internship and mentorship programs also aim to further the learning experience, while affiliates like the Parsons New School for Design further helps a Quest student prepare for a career in new media.

It sounds cool, however I doubt if the game-focused school will work very well. In my opinion I prefer a more serious and traditional education for kids since they are just from grade 6 ~12. What do you think?

Hmm... sound interesting but not quite what Im looking for... Now that give me an idea a school with RPG style teaching that would be interesting... Higher your lvl in school means your smart, good grades are more expirence, use the skill and classes u want, your level decide what class and teacher u will take and stuff like that... Now thats a dream come true...

Yeah, I think it'll be better if they do this for high-schoolers. And even then only as a side course. Unless, of course, the students are dead-set on becoming programmers, game designers, etc.

I believe it will be much better if they had this after high school. A group of grade 6-10 will be hell. You cannot trust those guys with professional stuff.

...what!? sooo...thats friggin sweet! Although...grade 6? Kids in that grade are usually immature and are going to do this just because it's cool. I mean, it's still a lot of work and understanding. They should just have it like highschool level or 8th grade and above. Because what if two years later I decide about a careeer I want that doesn't involve these things the school focuses on? I don't feel like changing schools and I don't feel like staying here. I also think children still need their basic education. So ya know at least keep the regular curriculum.

Interesting test, but I didn't think kids needed school to get interested in those subjects.
