Top 10 Death Caused by Games

Category: Random Game: Default Posted on Feb 26, 2009 3:43 am

Video games have become sleeker, harder, faster, and better to an exponential degree in the last 10 years.  This has been mostly awesome, but the increased intensity of games has yielded an echo of similarly intense behavior in those that play the games.  Sometimes this behavior goes well beyond throwing one’s controller across the room.  At the far end of this spectrum are 10 deaths caused by video games.

Quotes from spike.com written by Reverend Danger

7. Everquest Suicide

This story is up for some debate.  But the fact is that then-21-year-old Shawn Woolley played hours of the online game Everquest before fatally shooting himself while sitting in front of his computer.  His mother found him with notes related to the game strewn about the room, but none of them offered specific evidence for his motivation

6. 13-Year-Old Commits WoW Suicide

Xiao Yi was 13 when he jumped from the top of a 24-story building.  The note he left behind for his parents was written from the point of view of a video game character.  Further, the note detailed his wish to meet three of his gaming friends in the afterlife.  His parents asked him, at one point, about his addiction.  He replied that he “had been poisoned by games and could no longer control himself.”

5. 13-Year-Old Murders Woman for Subscription Money

In 2007, A 13-year-old boy named Dinh The Dan killed an 81-year-old woman and stole her money in order to fund an online gaming addiction.  Vietnamese police report that Dan strangled the woman with a piece of rope, then buried her in a pile of sand in front of his house.  Owing to his age, he was not sent to prison, but to a reeducation camp from which he will be released after good behavior

3. Daniel Petric Kills Mother Over Halo 3

After his mother and father took Halo 3 away from him, Daniel Petric, 17, unlocked the safe in which they’d hidden it. Also in the safe was a 9mm pistol. He then took the game and the pistol to his parent’s room, asked them to close their eyes because he had a surprise for them, and shot them both in the head.  The father survived with critical injuries, but his mother died instantly.

2. Toddler Beaten to Death with Game Controller

Darisabel Baez, the 2-year-old daughter to 19-year-old Neida E. Baez, was beaten to death with a video game controller by Neida’s then boyfriend, Harve L. Johnson, in April of last year. Bizarrely, the girl was brought to her mother unconscious and soaking wet because Howard had tried to revive her in the bathtub.  He refused to tell police his reason for beating the girl.

1. GTA-Inspired Cop Killing

There is little doubt that Devin Moore’s cop-killing spree and subsequent theft of a police cruiser were inspired by the ultraviolent video game series Grand Theft Auto.  Moore took one gun from an officer, shot three others with it, and fled the station in a police cruiser.  Moore was a obsessed with the GTA series of video games, and, once captured, he told police "Life's like a video game. You've got to die sometime."

I pity the fools who got controled by the games they play. Note: This is what I think ppl who got so into a game that thier mind got messed up should go see a very very great doctor or just go to hell before he hurts others. If your friend have problems like this beat him or her back up to keep your friend to stop getting all worked up on a game don't know about others but my way works =]

Sad what happened here, but it's not only the fault of these games.

Many parents let their kids play way too long, also let them playing the wrong games (like a 12 years old plays a game for 18+). I also grew up that way, though I didn't kill any people, I still had to fight with addiction. I think as parent you should care more about what your kiddies do in their room. It seems most parents are overwhelmed with the todays technical stuff.

And yeah it would be nice when such tragedies won't happen ever again, but we all know they will somehow. Practically every kind of media (books, movies, games, internet etc.) could be used to blame a murder.

I gotta say, people complaining about shootings being induced by video games is complete BS. There were shootings back in the day too, it's just the media twists and turns it all around. Like, that asian student that shot up some people a couple years ago at his University was reported to have been playing CS. I, as a former hardcore CS gamer believe it can't really make you that angry. And if it did for him, then he was dumb enough not to be able to control it.

Do you really need to collect this crap all in one place :/  People blame games enough without you having to gather up the death info for them to point out.  Things like this are what my Parents like to point out whenever they complain about video games.  We have enough of a battle as it is, you as a gamer really do not have to help the other side collecting their info for them here  >:(

OMG! these ppl that blame video games need to OBJECTIVELY look at the stats, GTA has sales in the millions, yet there is what like 2 crimes total committed by it's players, we need to stop blaming games and blame the ppl that commit the crimes, the games are never more then symptoms, not causes

I dont understand any of it. I consider thoughs that dont do stupid shit over video games to be unique based on the fact that more and more people are either crazy based on a video game or blaming a game to make it seem like its not thier fault either way its horrible... I could never shoot my parents I mean I hate my dad but I know that hate is only temporary... "love my mom to death" if she died I dunno what I would do and to beat a 2 year old girl to death and try to revive her what the hell if I even was around the neighborhood at the time of the incident and saw cops roll up or something and found out what happened I would run in there pick up his console and beat the shit out of him with that!!!!!!! Okay so im a little crazy to but only towards the ones that do harm to others over stupid shit the only time violence should be considered is in self-defence or protecting someone else.

I just can't get over #2 the fact that he tried to revive her in a bathtub keyword revive shows you that somethin is wrong with that guy, I have a 3 year old sister who does turns off my games on purpose and I don't kill her O-O pinch her a couple of times  maybe xD

The Sickening Acts People Take, Over Video Games, It's Almost Unbearable. However, I Don't Think My Answer Will Change That It's Game's Faults At All. Some People Can Just Be Messed In The Head Naturally, And It Just Takes A Certain, Object, Person, Etc. To Set Them Off. Besides, Has Any of The Stories Ever Told Us About The Murderers Lifestyle Before? Who Knows, They Could Have Already been messed Up In The Head, Or Something Terrible Could Have Happened To Them In The Past, Maybe The Games They Have Played, Just Triggered The Painful memory Inside The Head, And Have Made Them Snap. You Can't Really Blame Games, if You Don't Even Know What Has Happened In Their Lives, People Like To Focus So Much On A Solution As To Why People Have Done Such Acts, But They Take Absolutely No Time To Figure out What Has been Going On With The Others Life. Who Knows, Maybe The Person Could Have Been Changed If You Just Didn't Blame It On Games, And Throw The Guy In Jail. We Do Have Rehab Centers For Those Kinds Of Reasons You Know.

i agree with genfar, cuz of this the media makes every1 think that every game is this way..obsessed, insane and sick...which isnt true offcourse.

there are points that show when u just love to play a game or obsessed with a game.

when u get to the point of being obsessed i advise u to just stop lol but thats alrddy probally impossible..what u need then is some support and help from others like friends and family instead them only saying "stop playing games" and taking away their obsession by force.

so its the fault of both sides, anyways people forget that talking is more effecting then taking actual action and force.

also soemtimes its a case of childs-education and how they grew up....and their personality makes a huge differents.

Honestly this only proves that not everyone is mature to play games, seriously you ever get to hear about how you should grow up and stop playing alot of games well from my point of view people without the matureatiy to tell the differance from entertainment and real life shouldn't play games at all. Problem is you get a few bad nuts and the whole media makes it look like this is how everyone is gonna be.
