Boy's Suicide Cause Thailand's Shut Down of Gaming Sites

Courts in Thailand have ordered the closure of 72 online gambling and gaming websites after a 12 year old boy was alleged to have leaped to his death from the balcony of his family's sixth floor flat after being grounded by his father from playing online games.

According to Kotaku's write-up, the boy's decision to take his life included the causes: "Family problems topped the list. Other factors included physical and mental problems, economic hardships, poor income and unemployment."

As both suicide and unemployment rates continue to rise in the country, the Thai government is under pressure from the public to come up with solutions. Unable to do so, video games have become an easy scapegoat for the government to blame the nation's problems on.

To tell you the truth, its just a dude killing himself. I have to agree, to make prevention then you should really just not bad kids from playing, you gotta get some softer punishment. Or go on this daily thing that would make them stop gaming. I mean, my friend's dad is a sychologist and i talked to him about game addiciton. He said the only way to sop it is to make the kid think its not right. well, i am a super gamer, but i only limit myself to 3 hrs.

I swear you people going off killing yourself are making gamers everywhere looks bad. Dying b/c of no games WTF?!?!?!?! There is a little thing i like to do beside playing games all day its call "Get your fat @ss outside and play" Plz tell me if i'm over reacting or now but these kids are idiots...

Every moment there are peoples who commit suicide in any corner of this world, so for those who they can blame? If everything has to be banned for avoiding such case, then no cigar no sex no tv no movie no school no work no everything will be the best solution...bullshiet.

Hmmm how did the courts decide WHICH sites to close? And yeh overall this is bullshit, the only real reason why gaming is such a easy scapegoat is because all you really need to do is pay electric bill, if you took up drinking, you'd have to pay a lot for your alchohol. Also, I think the time that one day all violent content will be censored and destroyed is near.
