The debate over graphic Japanese sex games such as the disgusting and controversial RapeLay continues with word that the United Nations is stepping in.

At a meeting earlier this month, the U.N.'s Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women called for a ban on explicit video games and anime. As reported by Anime News Network, the committee urged Japan to ban "the sale of video games or cartoons involving rape and sexual violence against women which normalize and promote sexual violence against women and girls."

The committee also expressed concern "at the normalization of sexual violence in the State party as reflected by the prevalence of pornographic video games and cartoons featuring rape, gang rape, stalking and the sexual molestation of woman and girls."

I think I figured out why they're hating on the games so much. Aside from TV, which already has the kind of "childblock" feature, your computers and consoles obviously don't. You can easily lie about your age, or get your brother/ older friend to buy it for you, whatever the cost. Games also seem to have more of an effect on a child's mentality than R  movies  (I stopped getting scared of movies, but RE4 still creeps me out, how sad :/).

This is just ridiculous. They're cartoons for god's sake. Personally, I think having stuff like that available to people is a good thing because think about it - if these people don't have a medium to satisfy their "strange" inhibitions, they're more likely to lose it and do it in real life. That would be my take on it anyway.

Not to mention that fact that we have access to real pornography that's sometimes even more graphic than a lot of the hentai you see in Japan. We're talking about "REAL" women here, not cartoons, in rape scenarios. That's somehow higher on the moral step ladder? Give me a break.

God I hate conservatism, especially when blatant hypocrisy is involved.

i dont really like hentai, but i really hate whenever countries link up video games for a rise of crime, if someone plays gta and decides to rob a car its the persons fault and mentality not the games,

japan has one of the lowest sexual assault per capita in the world and countries with far worse rates are trying to tell them what to do? oh the irony of that statement. RapeLay came out YEARS ago and it took them like 5 years to even recognize it? keep in mind that the game isn;t even released in most of the countries that are complaining about it. its a domestic issue, not an international issue. what would happen if the rates of sexual assaults went up? i doubt the UN will take responsibility when that happens.

if the UN manages to successfully ban these type of games, people need to start one to ban guns in the western countries or to adopt more liberal policies like Canada. Japan doesn't have as much violent crimes because guns are illegal and Canada doesn't have a problem with violence like the US or other EU countries. maybe these countries that are so full of themselves should start listening to other countries since they are doing much better right now.

Well, if they will ban them then Japan will lose a good profitable industry that makes money, it will be great for them with this economical crysys that is around the world[makes me think about consiparcies]... or it may be just me:-?.

Either way, I don't blame games which it seems that instigates gamers to comit acts like are depictated in the actual games.

That's what all the gamers(communities) say, is not about the games it only regards the perception of each individual, like c'mon, we all know that all those crimes that were comited, were made by people that has an instable mind and they don't realize what they are doing or what they are about to do.

In my opinion all this nonsence was started by an ingrated politician that doesn't even know about the related game, that isn't a gamer, doesn't even know with what games are eated, or even what VIDEO games realy are and the poor guy/s politician/s that sustains this anti eroge video games found themselves in a nice mediactic subject that brings them some notoriety.

I wonder... why they are imposing this only to JAPANESE games, why not other country, there are eroge games that are made by other countries also or that are developed in other countries.

[ps: when are the trolling sites anti UN or whoever is behind all of these will show up? ]

Is sad to see that gamers just sit, watch and accept.

First, whoever's desktop that picture came from, they need serious help, no offense :D

I am a girl who often complains about MMO's and game sites using pictures of "sexy" women to promote their games or site, and yet despite that complaining, I also feel that adults should be able to play whatever games they want to.  I don't support the editing of games in any way.  If they get their way with these games, what type of games will they go for next?  Next they will be coming for the types of games that I love, saying they promote violence (like some people already do try to say).  I play games where I kill people all the time, it has never made me want to really kill someone.  Surely the lesser crime of rape (and as horrible a thing as it is, and I hate to ever hear people make light of it or use the word "raped" for a game term "I got raped!" because they lost a fight, I hate that) but anyway - despite the horrible thing that it is, to take a life, to murder is worse, and if they can mess with games that have rape it will set a precident where they can then look to mess with other games that I play where you kill people.

I can't believe the UN is pushing to try to influence what type of video games a country can make and sell.  It seems more political than anything too, they think it sounds good to push this, not even really knowing what the games are about.  I would live just fine without these games in the world, but I just think it's wrong for them to be told what they can make and sell, and I strongly feel that games do not make you go out and imitate what you see in them.

RapeLay was not even that bad <.<. Everybody made a big deal about it because of the title. Everything in that game seemed totally consensual. Nobody was getting beat or killed. WTF are these people talking about? The WORD "rape" or the actual ACT of "rape"? This shit being discussed in the U.N. is retarded. Oh, and stop saying that the U.S. is somehow part of this... we are not in it nearly as far as all you people from a TON of other countries. In the U.S. we like our porn just fine. We believe that people are entitled to buy Adult material if they of the right age and wish to do so. Some of you just need to stfu already with blaming the U.S. with all your problems... the U.N. is NOT the U.S... it is only a small part of it.

The U.N. consists of several other countries including America.  So I wouldn't only be blaming America when you should be blaming your country as well.  Wasn't Keith Vaz the guy who started it all?  Well he's not from America.  He's from the UK.

funny no one has an issue of having nude women promoting video games to teens but they def have a problem with these which are 18+. Honestly these ero games are double edge  education. Some who will play these  feel disgusted and make sure it never happens or atleast compress their desire to do these in rl .  Others who might luv it and want to try it. Everything has Yin and yang.  I honestly don't think rapist play hentai games then try it in rl. Ofcourse Otaku don't really have the balls to do it but then there are exceptions.

Honestly we have bigger problems in this world than a bunch of pixel babes getting molested.
