US Teen Torched Over $43 Video Game

Category: Default Game: Default Posted on Oct 15, 2009 5:41 am

A 15-year-old US boy was sprayed with rubbing alcohol before being set alight by a gang in what one police officer said was "the most heinous crime I have ever seen".

Michael Brewer from Florida suffered second-degree burns over 80 percent of his body after the attack at an apartment complex on Monday, CNN reports.

Police officers said Michael was waiting for friends after wagging school when a group of youths approached him.

A witness said they heard one of the boys yell "he's a snitch, he's a snitch" and "pour it on him" before Michael was doused in flammable liquid — believed to be rubbing alcohol — and set alight.

Police said Michael owed the suspect $43 for a video game but he had not paid it.

The suspect had stolen Michael's father's bicycle, which Michael reported to police.

The suspect was arrested that day, taken to a detention centre and later released to his parents.

Five youths were arrested on Tuesday night after the attack on Michael, Sergeant Steve Feeley was quoted as saying.

"A couple of them last night were laughing about it," he said.

"One of them arrested today seems genuinely sorry about it."

A resident used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames before Michael jumped into the apartment complex's swimming pool.

"In my 31 years — I always say, 'it's the most heinous crime I've ever seen,' " Sheriff Al Lamberti told reporters.

"This one fits in that category ... the fact that a person would intentionally ignite another child on fire — it's indescribable."

If you want a good pair of warm UGG boots that you can wear during the cold months for years into the future, but don’t want to spend a fortune then you need cheap uggs. Ugg Matala Sandal are a typically quality sheepskin boot with leather outer and strong rubber soles on the bottom. The Tasmina UGG boot is the center of all sheepskin shoe companies shoe lines for a reason.

This will give Jack Thompson another reason to persecute video games.

This was caused by a chain of events if i read this correctly , first he borrowed the money -> he couldn't pay it back -> the suspect stole his dads bicycle -> he reported it -> he got called a snitch for reporting it and was set on fire.

things like this shouldn't  be tolerated, the one's who did it should be put behind bars for a long long long time.

Agevent, you can take your stereo-typing, nationalistic, ignorant ass to another website. You tell me what country you are from and I am sure I can find something 10x worse than this case. EVERY person living in the U.S. has nothing to do with the actions of every retard that lives on its soil. You think there are rednecks here? Yes, there are plenty. Well, what about the bigots that live over where you are?... like you? When people say stupid shit like you, it just makes my blood boil. Sir or madam, YOU are the reason we have wars in this world.

O.o Omg over 43 dollars. I mean i can udnerstand why the kid would borrow money for a game, sometimes parents need to learn that always saying no has terrible consequences, it makes your kids do dumb shit. On the other hand setting a kid on fire for 43 dollars? If those were my kids, i would whip their asses until they were rosy red. After that i would tell the police to put their asses in juvi. Also I have to agree, that this doesn't belong here, the kid wasn't set on fire because of a game.

What is happening to kids these days? I mean even if somebody owes $50 and cant seem to pay it in time, does'nt mean that you have the right to torch him. That kid is disturbingly sick and needs to be treated right away, who knows what he will do in the future. Even if the scars heal the truma that the kid suffered will forever hurt him inside recurringly.

lol this is really deppressing T_T

It does not matter what the money was owed for, this happened because of owed money. This article has virtually nothing to do with games. Also, I just want to add that those kids DID try to kill the kid, so I would call that 'attempted murder' and set those little pricks into juvy until 18 and then to prison after that. I also bet not one of them would have had the balls to even light a piece of paper on fire without having the other nut-huggers around for [im]moral support.

On the other hand, nothing is ever so black and white in this world. Maybe the kid who got lit was taking advantage of somebody and had no intention of ever paying back the money he borrowed (we don't know how long he even owed the money), maybe the kids that lit him on fire were mentally handicapped and not aware of the type of damage that would be done to the kid, and maybe this whole 'lighting on fire' thing had been started by the kid that got lit when HE tried it on one of the five other kids at some earlier point... we just don't know enough information to make an informed decision. Often for a victim to exist, somebody has to make themselves into one. Two sides to every coin, as they say.

Thats sick. Who the fuck has the balls to set somebody on fire for 43 bucks? Is money really that important?

Over a video game, no less.

Assholes like these five kids give us good gamers bad reps. -_-

First, I hope the guy and his family lives through this outrageous incident. It is unbelievable how these guys can just set a guy on fire. I don't even have the guts to torture someone by beating them, let alone set someone on literal death. Although talking about it, it may just happen to me in a few years.

kids shouldnt borrow money for games in the first place. if their parents dont buy them games, then kids should just study, play sports, learn to play an instrument, or play "FREE" mmorpgs! (and yes i only play free mmorpgs)

Um, this guy was set on fire for being a snitch, reporting the guy to the police for taking a bike.  The bike was taken because the kid owed money for a game, but he was set on fire for going to the cops, not for the video game.  How misleading a title!

Im very sorry for that boy. And in 1st place the guilt is on his parents who didnt teached him how to use torrents and download all games for free! Same to movies, serias, music ect. And 2nd is dont borrow money from anybody who not from ur family thats must be ur life time rule.
