Disney Princess - child or adult's dream?

Category: Default Game: Default Posted on Sep 06, 2009 1:57 am

♦Jasmine

When she is first introduced, Princess Jasmine is a few days short of her 16th birthday. She is the daughter of the Sultan who has issued, by law, that she must choose a husband (a prince) to marry. She is a spirited young woman with a mind of her own.She can be headstrong and impetuous. She has a bottomless supply of willpower, and is very clever.

Aurora

Aurora is portrayed as a kind, playful, shy, gentle, and a fairly naive girl, who loves animals. She is also romantic and innocent. The good fairies of the kingdom have blessed her with beauty and the gift of song. She is lonely most of the film, as she is isolated to a cottage in the woods.

She wishes to be treated like more of an adult and wants to meet new people, try new things and be able to make her own decisions.

Belle

Belle is a young woman living in the French countryside with her father, an inventor. She wants more than the small town has to offer, and finds escape in the many books she reads. She is very compassionate, as seen when she takes care of the Beast, and courageous, as seen when she volunteers to save her father. Belle is strong, and does not hesitate to talk back to the Beast or attempt to escape the castle.

Cinderella

Cinderella is initially made a servant in her home and is constantly derided by her evil stepmother Lady Tremaine and two stepsisters.Although she is abused and humiliated, she maintains hope through her dreams. She is faithful to the idea that someday her wishes of happiness will come true. When her evil stepsisters and stepmother prevent her from going to the ball, she is heartbroken and alone. However, her fairy godmother appears and restores hope.

Cinderella is strong-willed; when the invitation to the royal ball arrives, she does everything she can to persuade her stepmother that she has every right to attend. She is presented in the film as a sympathetic heroine;well-meaning, hard-working, and positive.

Snow White

Snow White is a princess of noble birth who is forced into servitude by her jealous stepmother, the Queen. She is innocent and a bit naive, but she never loses faith that one day her wish for true love will someday come and take her away. She remains cheerful and kind, no matter how poorly her stepmother, the Queen, treats her.

She's a born optimist, who will always see the bottle half full no matter how grim things may seem. A silent dreamer, she loves helping people less fortunate than herself and never judges people. With a kind, gentle and feminine nature, she follows her heart and does what she feels is right even if it can lead her into trouble. For example, when she helps a suspicious, ugly crone by bringing her in to the cottage after Grumpy told her not to let anyone in. She sees the good in everyone and everything, almost to a fault, but through it all she's a good person with a huge heart and a motherly soul that can charm anyone, even Grumpy.

Mulan

Mulan is atypical to previous female roles in Disney films; she's braver, more self-reliant, and does not focus on marriage. She also does not fit in with the expectations of a young Chinese girl of the time: graceful, demure, and quiet.Instead she is clumsy, outspoken, and independent.Early in the first film she is depicted as insecure and self-loathing, thinking that she will never bring her family honor. As the story continues she starts to gain confidence in herself.

Her courage, intelligence, and determination also help her through her adventures.

Pocahontas

Pocahontas' name means "Little Mischief." She is based on the real historical figure, and was born into a highly-sophisticated Native American culture that had some knowledge of Europeans. Pocahontas is displayed as a noble, free-spirited and highly-spiritual young woman. She expresses wisdom beyond her years and offers kindness and guidance to those around her. She loves adventure and nature.

In the sequel, however, her character was significantly changed, making her harder, more cynical and less empathetic to those around her. This Pocahontas is more willing to settle down and plan her life—a feat unheard of in the original film, where her impulsive and reckless behavior is a key element of her character.

Ariel

Ariel is the youngest of King Triton's seven daughters (being 16 years old). She is shown as being adventurous and curious about the world of humans, a fascination which angers her father as merfolk are forbidden from making contact with the human world. Her best friend in the film is a fish named Flounder, and she develops a close relationship with a crab named Sebastian. Ariel salvages human items and keeps them in a secret grotto as part of her collection. Unfortunately for her, most of her knowledge of humans is through her collection, and her information regarding the names and functions of the items she has is almost wholly inaccurate thanks to her well meaning, but possibly demented friend Scuttle, a seagull she visits on the surface from time to time when she finds new human 'artifacts'. Her confusion regarding human objects works to win her the friendship and favor of the humans she later comes in contact with during the film, as they find her antics amusing.
