Exteel - MMOTPS Masterpiece
Website: http://www.exteel.com
Genre: Sci-fi TPS
Type: F2P
Status: Released
Developer: NCSoft
Publisher: NCSoft
Exteel is one of those games that are incredibly addictive from the moment you play them. At least, I am attracted to it. This game
is for you if you are a fan of technology, mechs and sci-fi. It requires reflexes, skill, and intelligence to master.
Gameplay: 9/10
- Presentation. The intro video is quite amusing and gets you hyped up for the real thing.
- Interface. The interface is decent and easy to use, even though some of the buttons are confusing.
- Options. You are allowed to change a good number of video options, and as a result it is easy to balance between graphics and performance.
- Controls. The controls are fairly simple and intuitive, but take time to master.
- Game modes. The game is multiplayer only, since it is an MMO. The ingame modes are: Last Stand (LS), Capture The Flag (CTF), Deathmatch (DM), Team Deathmatch (TDM), Territory Control (TC), Clan Battle (CB).
LS - you play with other players against the AI, protecting your bases until the time limit is reached, and there also is a difficulty setting for you to tinker with;
CTF - you must capture the flag and bring it back to your base to score points, and when someone has taken your flag, you must kill him and retrieve the flag;
DM - free-for-all, everyone for himself;
TDM - you are assigned to a team and work together to vanquish the other team, adding points to your team each kill you pull off;
TC - simply control as many bases as you can in order to win;
CB - you need to have 8 or more players to enter a clan battle. It is very similar to TDM, except points are deducted from the other team instead of adding to your own.
- Customization. You can have a heavy mech, a light one, a standard one, or even a hybrid one. You can even paint your parts. There are a variety of weapons: SMGs, rocket launchers, cannons, shotguns, rifles, shields, swords, spears and rectifiers. You will rarely get bored by customizing your mech.
- Action. This feature is pure gold in Exteel. There is plenty of action for anyone to experience. SMGs are the most action packed weapons, whilst rifles and cannons are perhaps the least filled with thrills.
- Store. The store is filled with weapons, complete mech sets, individual mech parts (heads, cores, legs and arms), repair kits and others. There are 2 currencies in the game: NC Coin, which is bought using real money, and ingame credits. You receive the latter by actually playing the game. Some items can only be bought with NC Coins. However, all items can be bought using NC Coins.
Graphics: 7.5/10
This part isn't what Exteel shines at, but it's fairly decent. The building details, the special effects, the environment go along well. You won't be disappointed by the graphics of Exteel. The character details are my favourite.

Community: 7/10
Not the best community you have ever seen, but it's not too bad either. Like all other games, the people you meet vary considerably in terms of attitude and desire to help you. Some might not want to help you at all, while others would give their life to save you out of what problems you might encounter. Ok, that's too much.
Audio: 8.5/10
The sound effects, especially the fire ones are well done. The background music is fine, but it tends to get repetitive and boring after a while. Once they start to do that, you can simply go to the options screen and turn them off, and run your own music in the background if you wish so. I don't mind the ingame music or sound, though. They add to the experience.
Overall: 8/10
A game worth a shot. I personally play it, and it's one of the best MMOs out there for me. Give it a try!
