After my articles uploaded on the mmosite blog (Learning From The Best), couple of my friends read them and started to give me a feedback about it.
“You should give an example of what you mean by NEW Feature.”
Or something like,
“Reading your articles, some of us might think that you can only write about a global conclusion, and you don’t really think about the details. Give an example about the pattern that you’re talking about.”
Well, my bad, I have to admit not to give an example about my articles. So, thanks to all the feedback, friends. I will try to give an example. However, I KNOW that this is not going to be an easy job for developers IF they consider to implement it in their games. BUT the IDEA is an example, and maybe a DREAM that many online game players like me would like to see in the future.
Fly Not Only For Fun But For Fight
Many games now are trying to provide a flying system. Well, I have to admit this is a good feature. But providing this feature WITHOUT adding something else will make your game like “FlyFF me too products”. In DOMO, flying is just used for time saving travelling or to escape certain monster. Why don’t they try to make the sky as a battleground? Imagine a castle siege, where you are not just paying your attention to the land, but also to the sky? Maybe there’s already a game that implemented this feature, I don’t know. This is just an example of the pattern that I am talking about in my previous articles.
My Land, My Sky, and My Water are My Battleground
The pirate theme is quite popular in 2007 because people are bored to fight only in the land. Now, if you know that the game out there already providing a battle ON the water, maybe it is time to think to have a battle IN the water. I know that Lineage II has provide us with an ability of swimming. But you can explore sooo much more if you turn this feature as a complex alternatives world. For example, some character job are not so good at the land battle, but when it comes to the under water battle, they turn out to be superior. And to make the game balance, provide us with an underwater cities, dungeon, and boss.
Have You Met My Weapon?
We all know that some weapon are very famous and their names ringing as loud as their masters. Excalibur, Masamune, Muramasa, or the one that possess Arthas from Warcraft III, the Frostmourne. Now we have experienced some games that give a very little role to the weapon. Why shouldn’t they extend it? Imagine a rare weapon that can transformed at certain level, has stat in it, has element in it, or even has loyalty. So when someone already build this rare weapon to the state where the weapon reach it final form, he or she can walk like having a second pet besides his or her pet. So… have you met my weapon?
Fusion Anyone?
I heard that Dragon Ball Online is coming and one thing that come in my mind is whether they will implemented fusion with NPC or not. NPC is already recruitable in Granado Espada. So maybe they are having a thought of implementing this? We still don’t know. However, we can think more creatively by providing pet that can fusion with its master after reaching certain level. Everybody already providing a mountable pet, just keep it that way, improve the animation, BUT add new feature: Fusion! Developers even can think of pet that can having certain item can has a chance to fuse into different type. Or maybe they can give level to the fusion function.
Joint Attribute
They have already implement relationship system that result in combo, drop rate, and critical rate. That’s nice. Provide the same thing also will be nice. But that’s not enough. Providing a joint attribute that can be spent into a joint skill or joint relationship attribute. So maybe in the future we are not just seeing someone getting married and just said, OK you are married, just like everybody else who decide to married, but we rather asking them, “So r u guys already decide what kind of couple you are, a berserk couple, a powerfull couple, or else?”
Manipulative Environment
This example already provided in an article by lekaku. I have told my friend that there are so many people out there having a good idea about NEW feature (like lekaku) and sometimes they are DREAMing to see that feature in the near future, but they keep asking me about example. So, I will try to describe more about the example. I was once playing Titan Quest through LAN with my friends and one of the fire magician lit up his volcano in the water terrain. Nothing happened. Also there was a time when a monster that I have killed in the edge of a hole, its corpse was plunged into the hole along with the dropped item! Now that’s a good example of environment manipulation of a game. Provide them in the online game and provide a new one like you can put a flamable material before you lure a mini boss. And many more that you can think of, object manipulation is a very interesting point that lekaku has gave us a thought.
Rare Skill
It is very common to provide a rare item in an online game. Sometimes this feature can make someone getting obsessed and spend most of his active life playing online games just to find one. But what about rare skill? Some game already implement that if you want to learn a skill you have to buy a skill book. Now what if the book can be dropped from monster, and there are certain skills that only can be dropped from certain monsters, but with a rare chance of drop. Maybe the guy that spend most of his active life will spend all of his active life to get one.
Mini Games
I know that Lineage II has provide us with mini games such as pet racing. Well providing more than that will also be nice. Maybe a jousting while mounting your pet? Maybe a couple dance competition? Maybe word competition like the game “Typing of the Dead” for some enchantment?
Well, that’s just an example of new feature that I am talking about using the same pattern in my article before. There are soooo much mooooore out there, if game developers start to ask the players or if they start to think creatively. So go on guys, put another NEW feature that you ever DREAM and let’s hope and pray that game developer hear us.
