3 Most Notable Trailers In E3 So Far

Category: Game Comments Game: Default Posted on Jun 20, 2009 1:22 pm

(In Dexcross Perspective)

I don’t have a chance to attend E3, but hey it’s one of the biggest game event, so I search and read some of the articles about E3, download some photos and screenshot, and also… GAME TRAILERS.  Several have been downloaded, but there are 3 trailers that get my attention so far.

Uncharted 2

There are times when we drop our jaw because of game cutscene.  And some games, unfortunately, don’t have a good gameplay graphic compare to their cutscene.  Now the time has come where cutscene IS also gameplay graphic.  Uncharted 2 gameplay trailer, has made me sitting in my chair like I was watching an adventure movie.  The camera angle, the music, and the promised story (I think it’s about Marco Polo’s treasure), has made my carpet being marked like a pond by my saliva.  Although I don’t think this game is suitable for me, because the action that so intense, pushing your adrenaline to the limit, and need high reflexes, but the trailer has catch my attention so much.

Dante’s Inferno

Not so many people reading Dante’s Divine Comedy these days, maybe because it’s more like a poem literature rather than casual one.  The first part of Divine Comedy is called inferno and it is an allegory of Dante’s journey to hell (in medieval concept).  Many games are using Dante’s terminology of hell and character’s name, but none has ever try to picture what he means about hell into a game.  Devil May Cry series are one of the example of game that using terminology and character’s name.  There’s still many, including WoW, Fallout 3, Persona 3, Castle Vania, Wild Arms 2, Descent 2, and many more.  However, this game is trying to portray how a man journey to the deepest part of hell with Dante’s desciption about hell’s structure.  The main character’s name is also Dante, trying to save his lover Beatrice in the deepest part of the hell.  This game also divide hell into several circle like Dante’s Divine Comedy Inferno.  And what make me impress is how this game describing hell in a way Divine Comedy can be imagined.  It is not a 100% percent the same as Divine Comedy, like how gluttony should be guarded by Cerberus, in this trailers I watch that this sin is guarded by a multiple headed hydra (more like an apocalypse hydra).  However, hell is what this trailer all about.

God Of War III

The game developer walkthrough trailer catch my attention, not because of the graphics, gameplay, or new features.  It did impress me, BUT the most important thing that really catch my attention is: the brutality scene.  I was wondering is it really necessary for this game to increase the tense and brutality level scene?  If you guys also downloaded this trailer, the developer said, “I know it’s a LITTLE bit messy here.” when Kratos chop and pull the cyclop eyes in a really CLOSE up scene.  Little???  It’s a total mess, man!  Another example is a close up scene on how Kratos pull Helios’ head from his body.  Sure he did pull another head from previous series like Medusa, but it is getting messier and more intense for me.  Once again, is it really necessary?

(This trailer catch my attention when I read the same concern on other site).

Yes, there are other amazing trailers at E3, but so far, these 3 titles really catch my attention.  So which other trailers that you guys think is notable?

Okay, that was a pretty big post. The last bit is here:

I mean, this is just the tip of the iceburg here; there was still the trailer for Rachet & Clank Future: A Crack In Time, and the accompanying gameplay footage which promised more of the great action-platforming fun that R&C always brings. Also, Team Ninja's Metroid: Other M? That's another game to be excited about and the trailer showed elements of sidescroller, third-person play-mechanics, and first-person shooting. And if we're talking about stunning trailers, Star Wars: The Old Republic had an awesomely jaw-dropping battle between large Sith and Jedi forces. Oh, and one more mention: Undead Knights for the PSP had an awesome trailer too, even if the gameplay won't look anything like it.

Something I forgot, Jedi vs Sith would be nice, and I will search for the trailers. However, I would be amazed if they also bring space combat to online, LOL.

Yeah, I won't deny that the team working on Dante's Inferno did some great concepting on the foes that inhabit each circle of hell.

But yeah, E3 showed quite a few new titles and new technology. Did you see Microsoft's Project NATAL? While not the most spectacular, in my opinion, it did seem to take the pre-existing tech used in the Playstation's EyeToy and step it up a notch. The ball demo, while a bit glitchy, did look amazingly fun, but the interactive boy demonstration... not so much. Of course, Sony was there with their own answer to advanced motion control which came in the form of "the wand". I thought it was very amazing because the technology was nearly flawless when being manipulated.

Of course, there were also titles that weren't so graphically amazing that were just stunningly original, like Scribblenauts, which allows you to input nearly any word and spawn whatever that is in to the world to be interacted with. Go and Google "god versus kraken" and you'll see what I mean. :)

Sequels are all fine and well, improving on graphics and gameplay etc. The most notable sequels, in my opinion, were Castlevania: Lord of Shadows--which turns out is being worked on by Hideo Kojima as well as some western developer--and The Last Guardian--the third game from Team Ico, who developed Ico and Shadow of Colossus before that. Castlevania is a long running series, so to have Kojima step in and help reinvent the game is a welcome breath and I think I can finally step back in and start playing the series again. Team Ico's Ico and Shadow of the Colussus were freakin' fantastic games, hands-down, so I fully expect The Last Guardian to be just as spectacular, if not more so.

I mean, this is just the tip of the iceburg here; there was still the trailer for Rachet & Clank Future: A Crack In Time, and the accompanying gameplay footage which promised more of the great action-plat

Wow, THANK YOU SO MUCH, you gave me so many stuff to feast my hungry eyes XD. I am fan of both Kojima and Castlevania. So, I would gladly wait for the "joint force" of this title. Well, I would gladly try to be there next time. Hope I can do that ^^.

Dante's Inferno may look nice, but I honestly think that it is a travesty. I mean really, we already have a God of War and Bayonetta is covering the other end of the gorey hack-n-slash spectrum. In my opinion, the game could have been an absolute gem if it had taken the route of an action/adventure title instead, leaving the Billy Badass scythe-toting heroism for the other Dante and taking up arms much like Guybrush would had it been Threepwood's Inferno.

sdhf, Assassins Creed 2 does look nice, but not better than Uncharted 2. I'd say they look to be on par with each other. I'd have put up AC2 in place of Dante's Inferno. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 doesn't get a mention over Modern Warfare 2, but my eyes are set on MAG either way, since it looks amazing for the amount of players it boasts to host per match. MAG has amazing in-game trailers and had an earth-shaking premier trailer when it was first announced.

There was a lot to see from E3, so trying to think of something off the top of my head is incredibly difficult, especially since I don't quite think I've properly processed everything I've seen from E3. All in all though, Uncharted 2 gets my number one spot.

Whoooaaaa, good analysis I had to admit.

Well, first, Dante catch my attention not because of the genre and if we have to compare it God of War, it will be inferior. What I am trying to say is Dante's environment by trying to describe the poem is what catch my attention.

MAG, on the other hand is amazing in terms of how many people can join the battle, and I know it got high rating for the trailers. But it didn't make my mouth swearing or pulling my saliva out when I watch it. It may be different if I really attend the E3 during that time, I don't know. Anyway, like I said, it is very subjective.

I really want to know the experience of someone who really attend it there, and by the way you say that it is difficult to think something special, has made me really want to hear your story man.

Hehhe, my real name is Dante. Now people are going to also say: "Dante like in Dante's Infierno and DMC?"

Annoying will be. Specially cause my dad called me like that after Dante's Infierno book, not the game, I'll have to explain there's a book too xD.

did you not see assassins creed 2? why is that not on the list and Uncharted 2 is. i mean its okay but didnt look better then assassins creed 2

Dexcross replied at 2:31 am Jun 24,2009
Well I watch Assassins Creed 2 trailers. I had to admit the movement of character is amazing. But if I have to compare how a man survive a near collapsing train in the edge of a mountain with an assassination take place during mask party, my adrenaline has been pumped up by the first and that's the reason I choose it ^^.

Indeed ^^, but I just list titles that really catch my attention, I know it's subjective.
