Longest MMORPGs That Stay In My HDD

Category: Game Comments Game: Default Posted on Jun 06, 2009 6:17 am

I’ve tried many MMORPGs, and most of them end up being deleted several weeks later.  Some of them even deleted after only been resided in my HDD for only 3 hours!  But some games, have become “senior” resident of my HDD.  Even if I upgraded my computer, I brought them along so that I can still play them later.  And here’s the list of them:

Dream Of Mirror Online

My personal obsession of collecting recipes, makes me still enjoy the game.  Not to mention a huge damage dealer with full STR saberman.  There are many more aspects to enjoy in this game.  This game has been in my HDD for 3 years.

Pirate King Online

This game is similar to my first addictive MMORPG, Ragnarok Online.  Even the shortcut is almost the same.  It’s been an alternative game since the invasion of the bot begun in RO.  I start with international version, and about 1 year ago, a local server open services in my country.  This game has been in my HDD for 3 years.

Granado Espada

The music, the new concept of controlling more than 1 character, beautiful graphic (during it’s early opening), random opti of items, have made me spent many sleepless day.  This game may not get the highest rating, it may not be perfect in many ways, but this game has the perfect characteristic for people like me.  This game has been in my HDD for 3 years.

Lineage II

This is the first MMORPG that give me feeling of a real battle in MASSIVE way.  Yes I know that guild vs guild and castle siege are common in many MMORPGs, but the first is always unforgettable.  Moreover, this game offer complex item crafting, enjoyable hunting and boss raid, and a very good graphic during it’s time.  Although this title can be considered as old MMORPG, this game has high concurrent users in my country.  I don’t quite remember how long has this game been in my HDD, but if I count it with the priv*cough*ate server (my country’s international connection was suck during that time), international server, and the new local server, I think it would reach more than 3 years.

Ragnarok Online

This game is the most “senior resident” in my HDD.  This is my first MMORPG, although there are many titles that have been released in my country before like Nexia or Laghaim.  And this is where all the addiction to MMORPG start.  A fun party hunting, War of Emporium, variety in character building, have make me hold this game for more than 5 years in my HDD.  I seldom play this game anymore, because there are so many bots in the game.  However, I didn’t delete it for the sake of memory and for casual fun with some of my friends.

That’s the list of game that still reside in my HDD.  I do have 2 more games that I haven’t mention here, but I believe they will still stay in my HDD for quite some times: Master of Fantasy and Luna Online.

After some thoughts, I found some reasons why some games being kicked out so quickly by me while others can reside for several years:

  • New experience, first time impression, and memorable experience.
  • Features of game that give you reason to keep playing.
  • Community, while in my case, it’s more because of real life friends.

So, what MMORPG title that you guys have kept for quite some times?

RAN is more casual although it has RPG elements, and I've tried it before, but somehow I quit, dunno why, maybe it's just not my type.

Well, Ragnarok Online might already been outdated in terms of graphics, but the feature is quite nice.

I was playing Silkroad Online before, and I have to say that it's a very nice game, but I quit since it's very hard to access the servers. They always full!
I am going to install Perfect World also, and let's see about it later ^^.

I really have no games like this, though Cabal somehow always finds a way on my computer even though I do not play it.

Dexcross replied at 12:08 am Jun 10,2009
I haven't try Cabal so I don't have any opinion about the game. Well maybe sometimes we kept it because we felt that we have put quite some effort that really too hard for us to let go.

I've been playing shaiya off and on since it first came out at Aeria games.  It's the trying to come up with new types of stat combinations to befuddle the enemy in pvp that keeps me playing.  It's the only mmo I've ever kept on my hard drive for an extended period of time.

Honestly most mmos are horrible.  1 in maybe 40 is worth playing for a month.  1 in 100 is worth actually keeping on your hard drive.

Dexcross replied at 12:06 am Jun 10,2009
well that's why I said that game feature is very important to make players stay and keep the game in their HDD, and I agree, most mmos can't make us keep it for a long time.
