Why is DDO: Eberron Unlimited the best F2P you will find in a while.

For more than a year I was addicted to the very controversial Maple Story, because even when it is very childish it has a component that makes it better than a great bunch of games out there: the fact that ability does matters. In all the games I had played before it (were few) and all the other I played later on (all games on MMOsite game list) this feature was never to be found again. The point and click way of moving in most 3D games was for me from lame to pathetic, and those who got the AWSD were just to show off cause when it came to the real deal you still had to point and click to attack. Some also had the idea of adding jumping to the game interaction, never knew why, cause even when you did it is impossible to avoid a monster attack thanks to the “ghost hit” effect. So, I’m one of those guys who likes to jump around and don’t only rely on damage and stats to kill stuff and to not get hit. Avoiding, jumping and climbing is my thing, being able to defend myself even when on disadvantage, feel the heat of battle, not some idiotic auto-attack. I got so pissed when a monster hit me even when I was far away, like if it had rubber hands or something of the likes.
For several more years I traveled the never ending list of games the world offers me, bored and alone I played all games on the list, tried every upcoming beta and read many reviews about games, made thousands of characters of all kinds and colors to unfortunately later quit after trashing my time. And then just when I was about to give up, on my gmail a beta invitation appeared: “You have been invited to be a DDO beta tester”. I have to say, looking for all the pics and videos you will find around, this game is no more than average, but as soon as you jump on Eberron world you will notice something there is unusual.
No more infernal grinding.
On DDO the idea of monster grinding is almost erased, there aren’t such zones were you can go packet with half million coins on pots and get some experience. This was one of the things I liked the most, no more crazy people who wastes 15 hours overnight on monster killing, and in fact, I wouldn’t have to waste non a minute.
NO POINT AND CLICK OR GHOST HIT.
The game play reminds me of the old good Fable for Xbox, where you don’t need to click to deal damage, you just get close enough, swing your weapon and slay some bitches. No more ghost hit where monsters hit you even when you run away from them. Jumping IS ACTUALLY USEFULL since you can use it to avoid attacks. You also get a blocking position where you can cover from attacks at a certain rate with your shield or sword.
Every NPC is a quest , every quest a dungeon, every dungeon at least one boss.
That’s right, every quest you get is a dungeon and every dungeon has its boss. Questing on DDO is a whole new experience, dungeons are so big and great and interactive, you will find quests having to resolve puzzles, secret doors, labyrinths and hidden bosses as soon as you enter. Not to mention the endless class of builds you can come up, the low population of stupid noobs and awesome cities and landscapes and a whole set of unique features on skills, party, PvP, questing and even damage.
There are much more features to mention but I’m too lazy to list them, just wait for someone else to post something. One thing is for sure, DDO has come to stay. It almost gets over the fact that Turbine is a set of thieves with ties and that they will try to rip you off with every fiber of themselves. When it comes out live on September 9th, DDO will become the best F2P on the market. Me, the critic eye of MMOsite have spoken.
