Online Game Buddies Gone Wild
Category: General mmorpg's Game: Default Posted on Jun 20, 2008 7:24 pm
When you start making friends online, you will soon notice that you should make your own privacy policy for yourself before playing online. If you are new to mmo’s then you might be positive about it and just give your new in-game buddy your email. But just what is going to happen on the long run?
And He/She Never Came Back (Gone With the Lag)
Yep, just like the title states, you said "Hi", he/she replied back, you hunted for a few minutes if not a couple of hours, and you never saw him again. He is never online in his messenger account and he hasn't replied to the 10 private messages that you sent to his forum inbox.
The truth is (please grab a box of tissues) you were never meant to be. As sad as it sounds, maybe he/she has a busy life or simply thinks he/she has an obligation to give away some personal contact information upfront. Don't worry it's not because you said that you are 35 and still sleep with a teddy bear.
Stalkers Inc.
So your friend turned out to be very active, he/she is always online, and always has the messenger service open to send you the latest guild gossip. You made a special group named "Guild" in your messenger, and now your friend might figure in your "BFF list" .
Your friend is amiable and even funny, but now you have another problem. Any guesses? Well he/she just wont give you a break!!!. If you have your status set to busy you will receive his messages, if you are offline he might think you are set to "Invisible" and send you a message with "Hey are you there?".
Your friend just doesn't understand that you have things to do or you just want to surf eBay for bunny slippers in peace. Just talk to your friend and let him/her know that when your status says "Busy" or "Away" it is because you are not available, and if he send you a message at that time, he risks just talking alone.
Your Commander in Chief
You added the Guild Master to your messenger friend list, you enjoy being his close friend and since you are brand new to the guild, you want to fit in as much as possible.
You enjoy his guidance and a plethora of tips that he is ready to give you about any aspect of the game. You get more excited about playing and time goes by. After a while, you start getting bugged with Mr. Bossy on your friend list always asking you to organize X and Y event and asking you how many supplies do you have on the inventory of your second character.
You get the feeling that it's like a second boss in addition to your mother or boss at work. It's time to quit, or just tell him that you need him to pass some guild responsibilities to Mike56 the dark mage that has been in the guild for six months already and does nothing for the team.
The XXX Maniac
Of course you cannot have a Gone Wild title without a sex maniac. Either your friend eats Viagra for breakfast or he is about 13 years old. (And don't give me that look, you know what happens at that age…)
He can't say a complete sentence without a sexual reference, and no female character that runs by him has a free pass of being automatically harassed. IF you are not into xxx as much as he is you will just shrug and try to ignore his comments.
The bad news is you are getting burned, in the game reputations matter. Your relationship with your friend doggydude might prevent you from entering the "Uber Heroic High Levels Guild".
So instead of being patience and ignoring the xxx links he keeps sending to your e-mail and your messenger, just give him the red card and get him out of both your game life and your real life.
The FBI Agent
He seems a bit quiet, talks with really correct English, and never loses it. You thought he was very mature and cool, you hang around and you actually enjoy playing with him.
The happiness ended when he asked too many questions about your life. Small talk turned into a tortuous inquisition about your life. He questions your decisions and never loses a chance to slip in a "But you could have…" in there.
The FBI Agent doesn't actually spam you every time you login, but nevertheless you must be careful about what information you just should never give out. With the increasing cases of identity theft you must take measures.
If he keeps on going just ask to know the motive for his curiosity and if he doesn't have a good enough reason just suck it up and say "That is personal information sorry". That should let him know that you do draw the line.
