You should see the players in GunZ, I'm guessing all the players are guys, yet half of them have female avatars, most have miniskirts and wield a sword, spamming other players with special techniques... there was a point where players entered the forumed complaining about it.

At the end of the day, I think the males who play female characters have an identity crisis.

Nothing new but.. the truth is that RPG = role-play game, u r playing the role u want to beor/and like one particular figure which u identify yourself the most, figure u admire/wanna be/love/yourself or all of it xD - that's the basics. According to that common logic if some guy identify himself with a girl(read: playing the girl character in-game) then something is wrong with such a guyor such a man/boy feel that ,in reality he's a girl inside or/and wanna be a girl in reality.. it doesn't matter because his personal matters r not our business ;). The problem(s) starts when guy playing female char don't wish to tell other player(s) who things he's a girl the truth.. It's simply sick and outrageous and cruel as hell a specially when some1 taking him seriously.. Overall guys playing female chars - plain ,misleading evil! It should be prohibited. Have some empathy for others for christ sake!just get over it! u ARE a guys and nothing can change it! and arguments like "I like cg female chars better than male chars" it's not enough.

To tell the truth I was playing the girl's char once too but I wanted to be a mage and only by playing female char I was able to be..BUT I gave myself a male name so that everyone could tell that I'm a man x)

Unfortunately I was unable to 'feel' my cg female char.. that was one of the reasons why I quit.

The main message is this: PPL DON'T play female characters IF u aren't female in rl!

Why is there anything wrong with guys? What about girls? There is always something wrong with a Feminine Male but never anything wrong with a Female having Male Attributes, Im not saying that its wrong its just we always have to look down on the guys. What I hate about this world, is that its too simple, But when you think of it, It is too complex and should be accepted.

I don't like ugly characters and that had little do with gender. Most games spend obviously more time on female models to attract the little boy playing their games who drool all over their keyboards over digital breasts and absolutely no time on male character model. Most MMO's  have male characters as little more than boxes with legs. Games that use better character detail, I rather pick a male, because the women are still 1) rather annoying naked at all times, 2)screaming annoyingly after every attack, 3)both. Take Aion, my male character in Aion I made prolly prettier than the females, and he's half as noisy. It works out for both visual and audio appeal.

The weird part is that in the game I'm currently playing, I was allowed in a girls-only guild because I didn't fooled them and told I was a guy playing a girl. LOL. They're nice people.

Zalit, I do fall under #10 and not 4.  I dont play a female character because I am a pervert -.- infact I hate nude patches in MMORPGs, I find them to be very distasteful.  I dont use "You use a female character because you don't want to stare at a guy's ass all the time." as an excuse, I find the female body more apealing to look at then a male's, and since my game camera is centered on my character 99% of the time, like every other MMORPG, I like playing females more.

#10 is a load of crap as far as I can tell, its the excuse most guys use instead of saying #4. You know, choose the better sounding option out of the two.

looks like many people agreed with my  "10".

1.  I solo a majority of the time.

2.  I don't ask anyone for anything unless I'm buying it with my own in game money.  I work for my own benefit.  It gives me the feeling of accomplishment.

3.  Gay?  Probably more than I know I guess?

4.  One word.  Guy.  No matter what, a guy will have some bit of perverse-ness.

5.  Curvacious women are delicious.

6.  Whether I play male or female, trust grows over time.

7.  I barely even want to level my own at times.

8.  I would not do this to someone.  It's cruel and just plain pathetic.

9.  I don't scam.  Unless it's a planned character possibly with a friend.  But that hasn't happened.

10.  Women are more to look at.

Other than that, I make a female character only because I believe me to be unattractive, I'm used to playing them for soem reason, and because that I think that I'm ugly. I'd at least want to look decent in a game because I know I'd never have anyone look at me more than twice.  Sure, you're probably thinking I'm just some pessimist.  Pessimistic and right.

I have a thing for cat-girls too... so I have a charater in Cloud Nine beta, FFXI and will have one in FFXIV.

I don't make many female characters, but when I do it's usually because of number 1 & 2. I'm always... all alone when I play MMOs.

Well, My reason is cause It was for fun, and I wanted to make a girl. And it just became a habit. Plus, I usually go for Mage or Thief. That tends to make me create a girl because, *No Offense to guys* Girls are more tended to be known as smart and plus a guy Mage with a stick flairing it around with shiny tricks and spells looks kind of too feminine, and so I just make Girl Mages to just go fully feminine for fun. Next a Thief because, Women's body look more slender and smaller, to be more agility, dexterity, accuracy and guile and that tends to apply to a Thief even more.Sometimes I make characters that are guys and are Mages, but It doesn't feel right. I usually make male characters if they are like a warrior, or a hardcore melee class, I know it sounds Sexist, but to me is how I do it. For example if I were to play WoW, I would be a Night Elf Hunter, or a Gnome Thief. If I were to play FlyFF I would make, a Male Mercenary and So on and so forth! That is why I usually play girl characters.

My reason is closer to the 10th as well, but I only create it because the male char is ufly in the game I am playing. For those who use female chars to scam, are just ****s, and gay.

im guilty of no.10 lol, I usually play solo, so I don't like staring at a male's ass for long periods of time. but if the game has an extensive character customization, I'm all out trying to get my face in the game, so I'd play a male.

What about if the game does not LET you play every class as the gender you want? What if I want to play an archer or mage class, but those classes are only female in the game that I play (S.U.N.)? This whole thing is just silly.

I am a boy, and i generally play girl chars. One, because i just like to play them, and two, because often they have either healing powers or are really agile, and i prefer to annoy the crap out of people by dodging them and healing myself.

I've never played a girl char just to scam people, or stare at my char's ass. I create them to play them, not to jerk off to them.

I personally dont like using female chars, not because I find females inferior but because when I play a game I like my character to resemble me as closely as possible or at least resemble who i would like to be. This is rather difficult due to the fact that I am black and very few games actually have the common sense to allow different skin tones, and some dont even allow you to choose your gender due to gender specific classes.

There are some games however that people play female chars for a reason though. In gunz female chars are rumoured to be easier to use, a smaller hit box, as well as other advantages so about 70% of that gaming population uses female chars (I still use a male). In Combat arms they added the unfair Nut-shot which is practically like a headshot if you get shot in the crotch you get insta killed, however if you use a female character you cannot get nut-shot (go figure). So in combat arms I purposely made a black female character to avoid this, it didnt matter to be cuz I could only see my gun and crosshair anyways.

Hate the post limit...Anyway what Im trying to say is that friendship are more important than outlook. It doesnt matter if the people are real male/female, as long as their friendship are true, thats what I think most important. I never ask or never care if that male/femal playing their opposite sex, as long as they happy and comfort. Of course, if that person can honest to me I would be more grateful, but if he/she is not, I never mind it. I always tell people who I am when people ask me, so I never find any problems so far unless when meeting some arrogant stereotype people that likes to name people gay, thats all.

Seeing some of the comment here, I would like to say that I never reflect myself as the character in game, never. In game my character looks brutal and stiff muscle doesnt mean the real me have the same look, or my character looks evilish cool and handsome doesnt mean the real me are the same, so I dont know why people playing game likes to reflect themselves as the character in game, no wonder many people likes to put their name naruto or ichigo etc may be they have imagine themselves as the character...

Half of the mmos I played I created female character, and half I played I created my original gender, I have my own reason to do so: I have played more than 10 years of online games, and the previous 10 years I mostly played my male character, being played mmos for so many years I have became bored keep looking the same armor same hair and same face not to mention the same butt, so I started to try female character, and it is not bad looking a nice female character walking around killing monster. Im not those scammer or so-called girl-in-disguise because I never not say Im a guy, I told everyone I know in game that Im a guy in real life when I played my female char, so I say I belong to the 10th or 11th reason. People that called a male playing female character gay are really discriminative, or should say stereotype. They dont really know why people do so and quickly making a conclusion or judgement. This is unfair. Why I have to force myself to keep looking at the male butt while Im actually prefer to look at female butt?

Also, Im still wondering: Why people care about male/female playing opposite gender in game? Why do you care? Are you trying to find a soulmate or sexmate in game? Even I don't agree with most of these reasons, and I'm a girl.  But just to throw it out there, I myself occassionally play a male character, especially in locked-gender games where girls are stuck as healers and archers, while the guys get to be rogues and warriors.

Um I don't think *most* guys play female characters.  A lot of them do, but most, I don't agree with that at all.

That being said, as a REAL female, I never accept help from others, I never accept gifts or items from others (I've told them I want to earn them myself, ever since I was first playing when I was 9 years old), I have always refused to be treated different based on my real life gender, so I can't really tell you if it actually happens or not.  I tried to hide from some old perverts who were stalking me before but still wanted to play this game and be around my friends, so I made a fake male character, and everybody offered to help me out as a newbie just as much as my female characters...

Sometimes I think it's a male facination with females, other times it's that they get to control the uncontrolable and make them do what they want (also females).  No offense to males, some guys say girls have "**** envy" but lots of guys are envious that girls get to be pretty and dance around and try to be "hot".  When you see a guy playing a female, they dress them up to be as "hot" as possible.  Some say they'd rather see a female butt on the screen all day than a guy's, but I'm a female, and I have no desire to see a guy's butt all day (and I like sex just as much as males do).

I am also frustrated with guys playing female characters sometimes but also relieved.  With so many guys playing them, I actually get left alone more.  When people KNOW you are a real girl, from talking on the phone, meeting in real, webcam chats, ventrillo, etc, you get bugged A LOT more.  When so many guys are playing female, they don't know who is who, and we actually get left alone and get to play in peace.
