When your paying 15 dollars for a game, your competing against every other game out there because as far as I know, and correct me if i'm wrong, from my knowledge there isn't a game that goes higher than the 15$ mark for membership to play.
Because of this, RFO is going head to head with other top games out there. Do you consider the cost worth it?
I did play a 10 day Trial of Rf Online and even bought membership for 1 month because I love Mechs (yes i'm a Belato spec).
However.. I found quite a list of problems which is really turning me off from the game and that its costs is pretty steep, but not to sound like a negative person, i'll also list positives.
One thing I noticed when I very first started is the enviroment. Yet somewhat confusing at first, I got use to it within a few minutes. Like any game, you have to get use to the controls and the enviroment which is fine.
One thing I noticed that was done poorly however, was learning how to chat. The orginal chat was fine, but help on how to do map chats and guild chats are not available. You have to know these from a booklet, which was not given to me because I did a digital download. I did find out eventually 2 days later.
The combat is intresting at first.. but also confusing. I had to read a guide on PT's so I would not gimp my charater. It was kind of sad to have to read a guide to really understand how the system works because then most players will find out the hard way and restart a charater. Pretty harsh while paying 15$ for the game on endless grind.
Finally after a few days, I was able to reach level 30 and get in my mech. It was fun and entertaining but the Bills required to not only pay for damages but towing as well. This restricted me from really using it whenever I wanted.
People have alot of opinions on the mech or mau. Overall, I feel that if other players can somewhat match the mau and are not penalized, why should I be?
Knowing 5,000 dollars flew out of my pocket on 1 hit of 1000 damage is painful to bear, while if it was done to a regular person, they could just let it heal over time without paying a penny.
As for combat gameplay I feel like a double edged sword.
PvE has turned me completely off. It is pure grind and repetitive play. While a occasional race of a opposing party may show to spice things up and cause trouble.. its only frustrating when your to weak to be able to defeat that person and no one is around to help (or don't care to help).
I often find myself pretending to be a commander while my mech allies are the Armor Squad of Nova. Entertaining yourself on a game to keep it going good is a new low for me, but I enjoyed the roleplay.
Its not completely hopeless, battle dungeons are always offering teamplay and challenge mode. This is the best part of PvE with a heft reward to get away from all the grind.
PvP Play has completely turned me on to the game. The massive fights for the control chip and leadership of the group is what gaming is all about! Yes, nothing says "i'm a hardcore gamer when my graphics chip is frying due to the massive battles!".
The only downside is when your a new player, your getting 0 advantage over players who simpley just grind longer than you and have more time. I find this as a balance issue. Reaching level 50 is rare. High strength of combat players should be put to a level just tad bit to the casual gamer so everyone has a decent chance of survival. Lucky me I was in a mau or I would have been shreded to pieces.
Even after being level 33, I find myself getting 1 shotted which is a turn off because it says "inless your a hardcore gamer with no life, you'll never survive in this zone, go play another game!".
Overall, the PvP aspects and the battle dungeons is the only thing keeping this game thriving, but for the 15$ costs.. there simpley is better games and content.
Cheers.
My rating is 3/5.
