What kind of games do you play? I'm not talking about fantasy or sci-fi or any other genres, I'm talking about the types of games. As you know, the gaming industry is quickly transforming. From a well written Role-Playing Game (RPG) to mind boggling Real-Time Strategy (RTS), the gaming industry has many types of games to offer. Pretty soon, some of these well known and often played game modes will be a thing of the past. I'm going to tell you about the many choices we have when choosing a game to play.

Well, heres a term that I'm sure almost everyone is familiar with, Online Gaming. What online gaming means is that people are able to play their games online with people across the globe. We mostly use the internet to accomplish this task. Pretty amazing huh? At this day and age, online gaming is very common. Pretty soon, offline gaming will be a thing of the past. Almost any game released nowadays has an some kind of online feature, whether it be to play against other players or downloading addons, we're all online.

Most of you probaby know some of the famous titles that are Multiplayer Online Games (MOG). A Multiplayer Online Game is basically a game where a player will play independently. For example, a player will host a game room and other players may join. The catch is that not every player will be able to play in the same room/map, sometimes, rooms/maps are limited to how many players they can hold. Hence the reason why its called a Multiplayer Online Game. Many people prefer this kind of game mode because it prevents them from getting their monsters kill stealed by people. Guild Wars is a great example. When you enter the battle area, only you and your party members are in the area. This ensures that only people you trust can loot items there. Some famous game titles would be CounterStrike, Gunz: The Duel, StarCraft, and many more!

If you are in the "know" of famous game titles, you might have recognized that some of the titles I mentioned for Multiplayer Online Games are infact First Person Shooters. A First Person Shooter (FPS) is just as its name describes, a shooting game in first person view. Normally in most first person shooters, you would only be able to see the tip of your gun and your arms/hands, this is what makes it first person. It tries and simulate a first person view. Many people prefer these types of games because it is better to maneuver in and aiming is very easy. Most First Person Shooters are played online because it makes the games more enjoyable (and maybe show off your fragging skills too). For example, CounterStrike is one of the most widely played First Person Shooters no matter what language/region you are playing from. Some good First Person Shooter titles are CounterStrike, Combat Arms, Team Fortress 2 and many more.

Well, I bet you can probably guess what kind of game this is. Its a shooter game of course, but in third person view. What you would see in a Third Person Shooter (TPS) usually is your body. This provides better viewing of your surroundings as opposed to first person view. I guess third person has its benefits right? There aren't many third person shooters, but they are starting to become popular. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the next shooter games are Third Person Shooters. Some Third Person Shooters would be Battlefield: Heroes, Gunz: The Duel and Gears of War.

Ah, here we are, one of the most stressful type of games ever, to most people anyways (well, maybe just me). What does Real Time Strategy (RTS) mean? Simple, its a strategy game, mostly war games, that happen in real time and not in turns as most strategy games would have thought to be played as. Most Real Time Strategy games are war based and have groups to command, the strategy part is figuring out how to demolish your enemy! Its all clean fun until someone's command posts gets conquered. Some popular titles are the Warcraft, Starcraft, and the Age of Empire series along with EA's new title, BattleForge.

Here we are, one of the most famous type of gaming known to the PC, Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG). Wow, what a mouthful. An MMORPG is a type of game where you pursue the role of your fictional character in a fantasy world online. MMORPG's usualy involve teamwork and follow a storyline, most MMORPG's don't ever end because where would the fun be? Plus it helps the company make more money as they update content such as classes, quests, items, and more!. Some popular titles are World of Warcraft (Very popular), Final Fantasy XI, EverQuest, Guild Wars, and Lineage 2.
