Holic to Holic 2 the Trials of Transition
Category: Default Game: Holic Online Posted on Feb 27, 2009 11:30 am
These days you can usually find me within the Holic Universe playing my Rogue/Hunter. I wanted to hold off on writing a Joe official article about this period of uncertainty within the Holic universe that I refer to as the transiton. Holic Usa or Holic 1 is scheduled to be updated sometime this year to Holic 2 which, thanks to our friends overseas who already have the game, sports an array of cool new features and content. Features such as the much anticipated PVP mode, faction wars, More pets, more maps and dungeons, a new character species, skill tree's etc. The release of Holic 2 was slated for early January 2009, here we are late february and still no Holic 2.
The release date being pushed back was our first warning sign of bad things to come. The second concern shared by myself and many other player was wether the game would be a stand-alone or a patch style expansion of what is now Holic 1. This was a determining factor in wether current players of Holic One should continue to play on their accounts, spending crucial NCash (Actual Currency) to level up only to have to repeat the process when Holic 2 is released, clearly a formula which equates to a waste of both time and money. Through the forums Holic players were informed by our lovely GM Lynolis, that Holic 2 would be an expansion and our efforts will be spared. The addition of content was an openly recieved as most to be a good thing, so we watched and layed in wait.
Then something pecular took place, I like to call this certain event the catalyst. The in game gold economy was beginning to crumble. What was already a very shaky and primitive form of economy was flood by hackers, and hacked in game gold. The price of normal items sky rocketed, and in normal players stalls were bought out. The hacked gold spread and basically reached into most if not all holic players accounts. Which lead to the Crisis.
With a failed economy, and hacked gold so viral so far spread that it could not be contained by administrative efforts, the community was told that an in game wipe was now possibly to be placed in effect with the transition to Holic 2. The outrage was stupendous. We just took part in a double exp. valentines day grindfest to only find out our accounts may all be on the chopping blocks, and from the Ncash user point of view money was on the line. "I paid good money for items they can't erase them without a refund" The general sentiment among the Ncash buyers who up till about valentines day were told that the transition would not involve a wipe.
Wipe or Not, Holic 2 is in the pipeline and we are pretty sure it's dawn will be upon us. The question is what will become of our humble community? What of my Rogue/Hunter? What will Netgame do in the event of a wipe? Will GM Lynolis be the ray of light, when the chaos takes hold? Stay tuned!
