K Listen team this blog wil be serious, it discusses a serious topic and pikachu got a fucking critical hit.

Yeah no this blog will of course be lighthearted as always but since this topic doesn't really have much to make fun of expect a 5% decrease in humor.
Righty today I would like to dicuss something that has been debated upon for a while now, the Generation of MMO's. Much like the unreal engine *props Aryoch for getting that shit done* has generation so has the mmorpg genre. Much has been speculated upon what defines one generation from the next but this is basically my take upon the divisions. *note MY TAKE freakin trolls better inject that in ur skulls cus I hate flame!
The First Generation - aka Ultima Online

Basically our version of WoW back in '97. This game was one of the first to feature a massive multiplayer online experience and the personal touch of the roleplaying genre at once. It had tons of people, trolls, douchebags, hackers, and the lot, but still remained to be quite popular. Think of it as runescape only with less bullshit and more testoseterone (yes i probably spelled that wrong flame away you grammar nazi's)
Customizable characters, quests, the whole lot, basically your standard run of the mill mmo that was considered to be fucking Jesus' dick back then cus it was just so fucking awesome.

2. The 2nd Generation - World of Mother Freakin Warcraft

What? another generic MMO?
Lemme set this straight child iz kay. (its okay for those of you who do not haz a cheezburger)
WoW released back in *insert date that an over excited fanboy would know here* and of course fans of Warcraft 3 flocked to this game. It was the first of its kind to feature immersive gameplay that had an underlying story to it all. Different races with differently roles in the game, made this a truely unique experiences. Tie that with a mindblowing amount of dungeons (instances/ dungeons their the same freakin thing), pvp arena battles, full on guild battles, and the first to pull off a successful raid? you have yourself the first second generation MMOrpg.
Now the 2nd generation had everything that the first generation had, but a whole lot more.....well then again if it didn't it wouldn't be in a whole generation out by itself. Otherwise how else would they have had Leeroy Jenkins?

Anyhow, 2nd generation mmo's included features such as immersive lore (such as batteling the Lich King who is a part of the WoW storyline), group pvp, basically everything you see in WoW. Maplestory, flyff, silkroad, all of these F2p's who all come to know and hate are considered 2nd generation mmo's.
3. The Third generation - sounds fucking amazing already doesn't it? , if you said yes ur a lying shitbag
![]()
what? wait....yeah team, it lucasarts in an MMO section, so sue me.
Now here is the debated part, some say Warhammer is 3rd gen, others say Conan, but I say KOTOR Online.
Why?
Cus you have a fucking lightsaber bitchez!

Welll least that's one of the reasons.
Anyhow Kotor imo will be the first of the 3rd gen because of a few special features.
A) Story driven gameplay.

Yes rather than going around and killing 20 pigs and 60 wolves for monies, ur actual going to do something that potentially important. In short, your actions actually matter in a game, (took em long enough to figure out how to add that feature) The developers promised that quests done for people advances a plotline of your destiny, and similar to the KOTOR games (which i freaking love to death) your actions will lead you down 3 paths, , light, dark, or neutral (which only douches go so pick a side bud). Oh yeah did I care to mention that you actions affect how the galaxy is arranged? cool beans eh?
B) A more detailed character devlopment

Like I said last time you decisions actually matter. Also your decisions also make up whether or not your character is either good or bad. Not of course this is not new in many games you can join factions , but KOTOR will be the first (correct me via comments if i'm wrong) to actually have ur decision matter and affect ur charcter. From the way people act to you and the danger you will get it, the universe is not limited to your level nor your character creation screen to how you fully immerse your character in the world.
C) Constantly Updated World

Get it? .Hack// and "the world?" ahahahahaha.....
Anyhow all the player's collective actions will affect how the world is devloped. A planet might be dominated by the Sith, or a saved by the Jedi, or controlled throughthe iron grip of smugglers. Governments militias, these are things that are not exactly player created, but rather (possibly ) player controlled.
and that's it I'm going to end it short
just an ending note these are my opinion and my facts upon KOTOR and all the other games are just through what I have read and seen, feel free to correct me you little schiests
