Sanrio, creator of the popular character Hello Kitty, is set to launch a new character series, it has been learned.
The company will begin selling a new pair of characters, dubbed Cherinacherine, on Wednesday. The theme of the new series is a pair of female fairy friends who live in a cherry forest.
The series will be aimed at fifth- and sixth-year elementary school girls, who have developed closer relationships with their friends and have begun to find best friends.
Altogether, there will be 24 items in the series including soft toys priced at 1,575 yen, handbags priced at 2,940 yen and letter sets costing 525 yen. They will be sold in department stores and at stores managed directly by Sanrio.
