Police sent papers to prosecutors accusing a 16-year-old girl of posting a threat on the Internet to commit mass murder in Tokyo's Shibuya district.

"I quit high school and was bored, so I wanted to do something that would attract attention. I mimicked the Akihabara incident," the girl was quoted as telling police, referring to the June 8 random street killings in Tokyo's Akihabara that left seven dead and 10 injured.

The unemployed girl from Saitama Prefecture stands accused of violating the Minor Offense Law for obstructing the business of police officers who went on the alert after the threatening messages were posted online.

According to Shibuya Police Station, the girl posted a total of 28 messages on a mobile phone site using a cellular phone registered under her father's name for about 30 minutes from around 3:17 p.m. on June 10.

Entitled "Murder notice," the messages read: "I will kill people in Shibuya on June 13," "I will stab them with a survival knife," and "I'm sure I can kill 10 or more people."

The girl also entered messages hailing Tomohiro Kato, 25, the suspect in the Akihabara stabbing spree.

Police arrested a 19-year-old man Monday for allegedly threatening on the Internet to go on a stabbing spree at Tokyo Disneyland.

The message, posted on a Web site by someone using a cell phone on June 15, came a week after a man posted similar warnings before killing seven people in a downtown Tokyo knifing rampage. Authorities were also searching for a woman suspected of wounding three people in a knifing incident Sunday.

Since the deadly stabbing attack in early June, police have arrested several people for allegedly using the Internet to make chillingly specific threats of violence.

"I will go to Disneyland to stab visitors to death," the 19-year-old wrote, according to a police official in Chiba, the suburban area where the amusement park is located.

The suspect's name was not released because he is below the age of 20 -- a minor under Japanese law.

Investigators have found no evidence that he was preparing to carry out a real assault, the official said on condition of anonymity, citing department policy.

The arrest on Monday coincided with a search for a woman suspected of stabbing three people in the arm at a crowded train station in the western city of Osaka.

Sanrio, creator of the popular character Hello Kitty, is set to launch a new character series, it has been learned.

The company will begin selling a new pair of characters, dubbed Cherinacherine, on Wednesday. The theme of the new series is a pair of female fairy friends who live in a cherry forest.

The series will be aimed at fifth- and sixth-year elementary school girls, who have developed closer relationships with their friends and have begun to find best friends.

Altogether, there will be 24 items in the series including soft toys priced at 1,575 yen, handbags priced at 2,940 yen and letter sets costing 525 yen. They will be sold in department stores and at stores managed directly by Sanrio.
