With Blizzcon fast approaching, the team behind Starcraft Universe is giving players a chance to try out their mod starting today and running until Oct 3oth. Starcraft Universe is a fan created mod within Starcraft 2 that incorporates some RPG features and while it’s not massive or doesn’t have a persistent world, the team hopes that fans waiting for a real Starcraft MMORPG will give their mod a shot.

While the game will be available for the next two weeks, it’s important to note that the development team does not consider it yet ready for open beta. The PvP mode will be available and players will start at level 30 with a full set of lev 30 gear.

To celebrate the test phase a new preview video was released today which you can watch below. For more information head over to

Owen Good — StarCraft's top designer called last month's stir over a "World of Starcraft" mod "a big misunderstanding," but said the mod's creator could be seeing job offers down the road, possibly from StarCraft's studio itself.

Dustin Browder, the game design director for StarCraft II, told Eurogamer that his shop wants to shake Ryan Winzen's hand "and say sorry for the misunderstanding," when the St. Louis-area modder visits Blizzard Entertainment, on an invitation from the publisher.

Browder and his colleagues had been concerned that Winzen was building something outside of the official toolkit Blizzard released to the modding community. That wasn't the case. "You got to give him a break. It's very difficult to look at that mod and understand that's a StarCraft mod," he told Eurogamer.

The publicity over World of StarCraft - since renamed "StarCraft Universe" - brought an invitation from Riot Games to apply for a gig ther

Remember World of Starcraft trailer circulate online? Unfortunately, Blizzard had the trailer for the mod pulled from YouTube citing copyright infringement, but no other contact was made. Ryan attempted to make contact with Blizzard regarding the issue, but was directed to another department leaving the issue unresolved for the moment.

The popularity and quality of the mod caught the attention of Riot Games, the creators of League of Legends. A developer from Riot contacted Ryan via Pixelated Geek offering him a job. This was later confirmed as an actual offer on the League of Legends official forums.

But in a statement released by Blizzard today, Blizzard support the creation of this and other mods. In addition, Ryan was offered a job with Riot Games for his work on World of StarCraft.

Blizzard Entertainment's official statement is as follows:

Earlier this week, a player-made StarCraft II mod called World of StarCraft and described as a "StarCraft MMO" was featured on a num

Unless you’ve been living with your head in the sand for the past few weeks, if you play World of Warcraft, Starcraft or frequent any gaming news site its likely that you’ve heard at least some of the drama surrounding Blizzard’s new Real ID.  Circulating the internet have been a plethora of blog posts, forum threads, even full websites have sprung up dedicated to discussing (or in many cases, flaming) the privacy issues surrounding Blizzard’s latest attempt at enhancing the gaming experience.

Even being on holiday halfway across the world and spending subsequent days battling jet lag I couldn’t escape the uproar; it seems that the blogosphere had virtually erupted into an angry, fiery mess of Blizzard customers concerned for their privacy (some considerab

I was doing some light reading and I just had decided to go check out some gaming sites. What I found is seem interesting to me. As you all know Activision had merger with Blizzard Entertainment and also there are lots of speculations of what sony plans to do with its new parter, NCsoft.

So What?

Well I also read that Ncsoft plans to relase anticipated mmo's like Guild Wars or Blades and Soul on the ps3. We all know that mmo's can bring in alot of income Even Activision had several discussions with its shareholders to make call of duty a p2p model. We are also seeing alot of mmo's strarting to become alot more action oriented like lost saga, dragonica, and wonder king for example. This leads me for start thinking that mmo's will start leaving the pc front and switch over to the console to try to appeal to a lager audiance.

We know its possible to make an mmo on a console but will these future mmo's will be less stat and equipment ba

Based in the future when humans have managed the technology of intergalactic flight, Avatar is an epic sci-fi film lauded for its incredible visual feast. Put simply, even the pre-screening blew me and my whole family away!

I suggest all the viewers here go to an IMAX theatre to enjoy it (at the very least a 3D capable theater), whatever its revolutionary film-making, grandiose new ideas, never-before-seen special effects, or James Cameron's inspiration… everything that awaits will almost pop-off the screen and take your breath away. And I even found some nods to WoW and Guild War, the Pandora forest, levitating rock islands, violet luminescence, drifting tendrils, spots of blood-red, and alien fungal forms... So I guess the developer himself may be a MMO player, lol. Maybe he could be reading what I'm writing here. Hi, man! If you're here, please let me know! I've been one of your fans since Terminator 2: Judgment Day. I haven't had the jitters after a film the way I've had for this movie in quite a long time, to put it bluntly!

Although I'm attracted completely by its visual effect of the life-like wildlife, the jungle, the animals, the Na'vi-s, and the dragon-like f

Starcraft 2 is coming!

The new game, as rumored, is Starcraft II.

Morhaime then introduces the lead designer of the project to discuss it--none other than former EALA designer Dustin Browder (who worked previously on The Battle for Middle-earth and Command & Conquer series). The video screen cuts to a demonstration that shows a fleet of Protoss ships that disembark several zealot infantry units, then cuts to a scene showing Terran transports touching down and becoming base structures, spouting infantry and vehicle units. Browder points out that this demonstration is in a very early stage of code. As we see in the demonstration, the new game will add abilities to existing units--the Protoss zealot, for instance, will now be able to charge into battle to quickly close the distance against Terran gunners. The Terrans retaliate by bringing in siege tanks to shell the Protoss from a distance. The Protoss respond by commissioning "Immortals"--heavy-duty tanks with powerful energy shields.

Blizzard's Mike Morhaime can't help but grin as Starcraft II is revealed.

The Terrans then commission reapers, medium infantry with jetpacks that can jump barriers to raid enemy bases more effectively. The reapers leap i
