After reading this, I was almost inclined to agree. Almost. I pride myself on being a child of the 90’s. The height of when Japanese RPG’s happily flooded consoles everywhere, and that was a good thing. Who can forget timeless classics like Final Fantasy, Phantasy Star, Star Ocean, and Lunar. Has it been so long that we have forgotten our very roots that led us to playing MMO’s in the first place? Classic RPG style games have not died…but they are sadly short in number. There have been a few in recent times that have gotten good reviews and sales without succumbing to the New Age.



Final Fantasy crossed over from RPG platform to MMO with the make of FF XI: Online. Before that, on Sega Dreamcast and later on other consoles, Phantasy Star tickled us with PSO. Star Ocean had a hit release with Star Ocean 3: Til the End of Time, but hasn’t made it over to the MMO platforms yet. Other fantasy titles that haven’t made it to Online, but still rake in the sales are Suikoden, Kingdom Hearts,  Disgaea, Legend of Zelda, and others.
