A world's largest video game convention, E3 (Electoronic Entertainment Expo) was held last week in L.A. Convention Center.   This year, ATLUS ONLINE made its premier showing in the booth along with our friends at ATLUS USA.  We've set up four computers showcasing Pandora Saga, Shin Megami Tensei Imagine, BatteSpace, and Knights of the Sky.

Shin Megami Tensei Imagine at last is available to play!

To celebrate this fantastic news, we've got some exciting Launch events lined up for both new AND migrating users from Aeria Games:

Welcome Migration Celebration (Launch - 5/16): Existing SMT Imagine users will receive the Item Depository Pass, which lets players to rent an Item Depository, allowing unlimited use of the Depository for 30 days. The ticket can also be used to extend the end date of an Item Depository already in use.

Launch Event Party (4/27 - 5/23): New SMT Imagine users will receive the Incense of Training, allowing players Level 30 and below to increase XP earned by 1.5 times for duration of 10 days. This item's effect can also be stacked with the Incense of Experience or the Ashes of the Seance

Those who follow the Shin Megami Tensei series are delighted that it's got an MMO. However the question is what does this MMO offer for the current fans of the series and what does it do for the new players.

After playing the game for over 300 hours, I've come to the idea that this MMO does offer something interesting for strategic player. The in-depth combat system allows you to build your skill sets using a Expertise sys em, which allows you to unlock new skills, select any weapon that the client offers, from a sword or rifle just to name a few.

The story starts you off as a Demon Buster Trainee in a futuristic ruins of Tokyo. As you process the story, you raise your ranks as you complete the chapters in the main quest, however while the story isn't complete and their news on possible future updates, it's a good start. The interesting part is that although the client makes the story mode extremely difficult for the player to complete solo, teaming up means that completing those

Act 18 is now been uploaded onto the Japanese servers. Good news for those who are waiting for new content to continue the story in MegaTen Online. Hopefully will it be patched on the Aeria Games NA version in the future.

While Aeria Games Shin Megami Tensei Online main story is held at Act 16, Japan's service had started to get updates to continue the story mode of the MMO.

Act 17 has previously been released and now there is news of an content update of Act 18 being added into the next update on October 5th 2010.

Will Aeria Games players see this update soon? Maybe after a few play thou from Japanese players and fix after some reports, it's a maybe.

It’s no secret that free to play MMORPGs have been exploding in popularity in the past few years. Once unheard of in the West, scores of free MMORPG games are now available for North American and European gamers. But while this trend has banished the dreaded monthly subscription fee, it has come at a cost. Many rightly claim that free MMORPGs have much lower quality than the traditional pay-to-play MMORPG offered by Western developers such as Electronic Arts or Blizzard. This might of been true at first but many of today’s free games have excellent production value that even rival those of subscription MMORPGs. Games like Project Powder and MegaTen are both high quality titles available for free that defy the stereotype.

While progress has been made on quality, free MMORPGs still lack a very important feature that comes naturally to classic titles such as EverQuest or WoW and that is community. The social experience in a MMORPG is arguably the most important aspect. It’s what separates the genre from its single player cousin, the RPG. Welcome to the first in my Virtual Impressions series of blogs!  In these blogs, I'll talk about what game I've been playing lately, and what I thought of it.  I'm on a quest to find what kinds of elements do and don't work for me in MMO's.  The first game to be highlighted in this series is Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine, or MegaTen as it is commonly known.  It's run by Aeria Games, which can be found at www.aeriagames.com.

The first element of any MMO game is the character creation step, and it can be one of the most important.  In virtual worlds, I believe it's important to be able to create a character right out of the game that has some unique flair.  Otherwise, you end up with a horde of newbies who all look exactly alike.  MegaTen doesn't give you a lot of options out of the gate, but it does at least give you control over a couple aspects of your characters appearance to not be exact clones of the other newbies.

In game, one thing of note is that the game does seem to have a decent amount of emotes, which can be an important factor for people who actually enjoy to roleplay in games (including myself).

As of a few days ago Aeriagames has released the official site for Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine (aptly named Megaten) and with the release of the site the Close Beta sign ups has been opened.
