Always disable the carry

A rather obvious suggestion, but one that needs to be reaffirmed. Always disable the carry. Why am I bringing this up now? Well, I had a match today which the team I was going against actually decided to follow that golden rule and late game they disabled the heck out of me to make sure I couldn't carry my team. Was I mad? Naw, I had a lot of fun in the match and so did they. I also commend them for being one of the few to actually build up and do it correctly, unlike many others I have seen who have been fumbling around to do the same thing.

One thing that really helped them out was their line-up. My team was made up of Nocturne, Shen, and Xin(me). Theirs was made up of Tryndamere, Morgana, and Sion. I know some person just thought  "Tryn is OP" even though he really isn'

Crafting in MMOs – Joy or needless Torture?

While in many MMOs one generally finds the same mechanics in play, when it comes to crafting many games take different approaches. Like everything else some of the approaches I end up loving while some are often quite annoying. Whats the good and the bad of crafting in MMOs?

Why cannot all developers implement the perfect crafting system. I can imagine it is not easy to balance crafting in a game. If crafting provides the best equipment it will be hard to do an end game that’s engaging for there will be no incentive for it. This situation has indirectly forced games to implement crafting with a variety of different philosophies. This is my experience:

Unless Crafting:

The thing that annoys me the most is when the crafted product is useless. In some games Crafting appears to be nothing more then a sort of mini-game aimed at providing a little break from your normal game-play. In such games, Monster Drops or Vendors would provide better equipment then anything you could ever craft. Why

Why is PvP so satisfying?

I sometimes wonder why we find PvP so satisfying, why we relish the kill. Why PK and PvP is a must have for a large sect of gamers. Is it an ego thing? I think not.

I guess you could put it as a collection of your work, bundled into a character. Everything you know and have learnt about that character, the gear you have spent time getting for that character and the skills you have as a gamer bundled into one head on competition with another player in the same situation.

This is probably the reason trolling and flames surround the PvP world as emotions and tension is raised high in this competition events, especially when one players feels victimized or feels the event was not fair. A perfect example of this is gang-banging in PvP when you get jumped by multiple players at once when you are by yourself and lose something valuable. Whether it's an item, or time wasted it can be infuriating to be on the wrong side of it, but immensely fun for the attacking

How do you deal with raging teammates?

So, something a bit different than the normal new sharing I have been doing, is a topic that came to my mine and made me wonder how others deal with this situation. In competitive games, you're more than likely to come across a few raging players, unfortunately they're not always on the opposite team, sometimes you need to deal with it in your own groups as well. How do you deal with this situation? Do you try to calm the waters? Or do you fuel the fire and make the person actually rage quit?

For me it really depends on a few factors, such as; my mood, who they're raging at, and things to that effect. I have had teammates rage at my friends or myself for stupid reasons such as not pushing a lane with them (LoL) which caused them to get ganked and killed, despite not even bei

Trying out Garen

So I ended up buying another champion the other day, this time Garen. He's been in the leagues roster for awhile now, I and I kind of ignored his presence for a long while as well. But recently I have played with and gone against some decent Garen players and thought that he looked rather promising. So in lieu of that, I decided to give him a go. First by actually buying him and second by getting a skin that I liked for him from his available ones. (Rugged Garen)

The outcome thus-far has been decent, I am not great with the champion yet, but I am slowly starting to learn him. Basically I am doing the standard of what I have seen which is building damage and crit first then working on HP some more after, which seems to work well so far. Garen's passive hp r

Listening to music during competitive play

Alright, ‘competitive play’ is sort of a broad term. In a shorter term, I mean generally moba games (like LoL/Dota/HoN) and shooter games. I find a lot of times when I play with random people they tend not to hear pings, things said in voice chat, ect due to having music on while they’re playing.

Now I don’t mostly since I find it to be more distracting than anything else. I can do it, but while in a game I am busy trying to listen to my team or the sounds of enemies nearby, with music playing, I can’t really do that. This is especially true since I am into metal music, and that is a bit more distracting than listening to classic. Yea, I could turn the volume down, but then I can’t hear the music! Alright, that did sound lame, but really I prefer having my headphones on and only listening to the game and nothing else.

So what about you all, do you tend to listen to music while playing? If so, how do you concentrate on the game, really? Do you ju

So I was playing a match with one of my friends yesterday and we ran across a bit of bad luck in a 3v3. We started, and our third and random teammate started disconnected. The match was this: Tryndamere (Friend of mine), Vayne (Disconnected guy), and Nocturne (Me) vs. Akali, Ashe, and Poppy. So all game we ended up in a 2v3 line-up, and we figured we may lose and didn’t care too much, though was slightly bummed we got a dead weight teammate. So luckily the other team seemed decent, as we joked around back and forth in a civil manner, unlike a lot of teams you meet in LoL… Well, it started that way.  As we played I first took the bot lane while my friend took top lane, since he is still new with Tryndamere and wanted some practice with him. I was towe

Still wishing for a Final Fantasy VII remake?

Well I know fans have been pining for a remake of the cult classic in RPG history, but they may not get as much of what they want if it does actually come out. Over at OXM UK’s site, they have an article that quotes Final Fantasy XIII-2’s director Yoshinori Kitasi on his thoughts on making a FF VII remake. From the article he doesn’t think that because it sold a lot back in 1997, it may not sell a lot today if they just did a straight up HD remake of the game, and that it also wouldn’t be as enjoyable for them to develop the game.  As he said in the article,  “"If I may speak as a game creator, if we were to produce a remake of VII, for example, I would be really tempted to delete things and add new elements, new systems or whatever because

Alright, so this topic came to mind due to my recent exploits in Fallen Earth. Where this would happen, I ask someone something; they ignore it and press on without even pausing to think to respond. I could try addressing them by name, or even try helping them, all to no avail.

See, I noticed this trend happening more and more lately with mmos. Most of the time when I played a few years ago, I would address someone, they would respond, and it would usually lead to light conversation before we either went off into a party to slay and get killed by the unknown, or we just separated and went our own ways.

Nowadays however insert the same scenario, I would go up and talk to someone, now more than half the time they don’t respond, or I sometimes even get the pleasant response of  “F*** you”. Is the social platform that is mmos becoming less social, or have I just had a bad luck with a current run of people? I am not saying this happened all of the time, but I do notice

Online Games on Tablets- What do you want?

Yea, the title isn’t the best, I was trying to figure out how best I could put it in a short phrase so it doesn’t get cut off or have too long of a title. The question at hand is, “What online game(s) or mmo(s) would you like to see ported to tablet pcs?”

This popped into my head while seeing news that Conquer Online was being moved to tablet pcs, and again when Rockstar Games announced the remake of GTA 3 on Tablets (Not a mmo but still made me think of this). With more and more games being converted over, I wonder, what would you all like to see? I myself don’t own a tablet –yet- but I do plan to get one probably next year, to be a smaller “laptop” type device, since I wanted one for a while to browse and do work while on the go.

Well, enough
