Star Trek Online has announced that it will soon be going to a free-to-play game later this year.

The new model will not require players to buy a copy of the game or a subscription. “Gold Member” subscriptions will remain available for players at $14.99 a month. Free players will be restricted to two character slots, a maximum of 48 inventory slots, and limited chat. Certain features will only be available for free players via purchases.

Things to do with free to play is they get to play as long as they want, experience weekly episodes that contain story based gameplay, no level restrictions, do want you want such as discover new life and civilizations, and explore many notable places from the Star Trek Universe.

No doubt by now you have at least heard some things about Star Trek going free to play. It isn’t really a surprise really, being that the trend of mmos lately seems to be switching form pay model to free ones.  Though this one is a bit more of a surprise, being that it has only been around for a year.

Like I said, I am actually surprised this is going free to play, and so soon after its release. Usually you see this after around two or more years, but for it to change so suddenly, I just wonder if they’re joining in on the bandwagon after seeing the success this move has brought to games like Lord of the Rings and Global Agenda. I am not saying it isn’t a welcome addition, I for one plan on trying the game out after it makes the change.

I heard of that Star Trek Online has a unique offer for all those interested, If you pre-order the game, you can pay a one-time fee and gain a lifetime subscription.

Lifetime Subscription charges $239.99. On top of that, you also gain access to a special character, and 2 additional character slots.

I don't know what is the meaning of Lifetime Subscription, does there have any different from buy a copy to play the game?

In the other way, we even can make sure the gameplay is good enough to worth the price we paid for lifetime.

MMORPG isn't a genre, It's a alternative to "Instance", "consoles","handheld","single-player". Multi-playerdefines that theirs a lot of players, that what star trek is an MO (Multiplayer Online). MMORPG is a framework, Not an instance. About a shared world, not a lobby.

STO has perpetrated as an  MMO. We’ve been said to that the instances weren’t noticeable, as we were wrong after all. Not only is that a huge barrier between a large persistent world, It blocks communication barrier, socializing barrier,  Interaction barrier, outside the zone chat. They also had the nerve to put prefix-MMO. Okay, you’ve just crossed the line here.

Cryptic I’ve expected more then just 20-50 players in one instance. I’ve expected an MMORPG. You can’t take that description without looking at the facts. In STO, you get a Quest in an instance, you are lucky to either have someone participating with you in your instance (Not preplanned With friends/Ventrilo) most of these mission is orientat

In my last blog article, I said that when I watch Uncharted 2: Among The Thieves, it was like watching a movie instead of game trailers.  Seems like the hollywood guys also like this game title, and from the rumors that I read, they will start to shoot a movie based on this game.  You can read the complete news here.
