Flash-based fighter ‘Battle’ invades browsers and social networks
By: lordaltay in defaultposted at 11:09 pm Feb 09,2009 - 0
Attempting to bring the player-versus-player experience of MMOs to a wider audience, Multiverse has released the flash-based gladiatorial sim “Battle.”
Similar to the gameplay in the free-to-play “Guild Wars,” players can only choose six different skills to bring into each one-on-one arena-style battle. Being able to choose between 13 skills across three different categories should make each battle unique, but like any MMO, some builds will probably prove more popular (and possibly overpowered) than others.
Corey Bridges, co-founder and executive producer at Multiverse, said “‘Battle’ is the first glimpse of a whole new level of excitement in casual games. While new players can begin having fun in seconds, experienced gamers will be thrilled to finally see in a web browser the kind of action and graphics they’ve found on consoles and in massively multiplayer online games. We’re confident ‘Battle’ is going to redefine players’ expectations of what’s possible in casual games.”
Since the game is built on a flash-based platform, it’s available to play on all the popular social networking sites such a

Space MMO ‘Galaxy Online’ coming to a galaxy near you
By: lordaltay in defaultposted at 11:03 pm Feb 09,2009 - 0
Lasers, stars, weird looking guns, battleships and last but not least, an astounding view of the universe and beyond. No, it’s not a re-run of “Star Trek.” (Good guess, though.) It’s a new online space game based on thousands of different player-controlled galaxies. “Galaxy Online,” developed by the same team behind games such as “Tales of Pirates” and “God’s War,” will be released this month.
The game is kicking up a storm and sucking many players in. The official forums, which were launched yesterday, already feature an abundance of praise for the game. Most frequently touched upon are the ‘cool battles’ and ‘building a galaxy of your own’ (mostly opinions from screenshots and videos). Another cool aspect of the game is the user interactivity within the environment.
Players have the ability to take their fleet of battleships and customize them to their needs. They can also alter the position and variety of planets within their galaxy. Speaking of galaxies, it’s not enough to just own one — that would be boring. According to the official website, one must create customize, control a

US and European ‘Hellgate London’ servers officially close
By: lordaltay in defaultposted at 10:43 pm Feb 09,2009 - 0
Right on time, Namco Bandai pulled the plug on the United States and European servers for “Hellgate London” just like they previously said they would.
So what was it like witnessing the end of a virtual world? Scott from the Pumping Irony blog writes: “The last few lines of chat that came across my screen were:
‘Take care all, let’s kick ass wherever we go!’
‘love u all’
‘dang this really SUX’
‘bye everyone’”
Scott continued. “Seconds after that final goodbye, there was a sudden jolt of lag as we were all sent back to the ‘Hellgate’ title screen and greeted with the message of a virtual world that no longer exists.”
As depressing as you might find this to be, ”The End” may not really mean the end. As we reported last week, “Hellgate” servers in Asia were not shut down due to Hanbitsoft owning the rights in that region. However unlikely it may be, Hanbitsoftcould somehow wrestle the U.S. and European rights away from Namco Bandai and flip those servers back on. If and when that happens, we’ll be sure to let you know.

Must have's of the 90's - A SNES RPG Compilation
By: Neramaar in defaultposted at 1:00 pm May 18,2008 - 7

For me the SNES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System) was the beginning. It was where it all started. I'd played video games before it; I had the Atari 2600, Commodore 64, NES, SEGA Master System, and the SEGA Mega Drive. I loved them all greatly, and always will, they had so many new and unique games that I honestly don't think I can think of a time when I was bored even once during my childhood. But the SNES gave me something I hadn't really experienced before; it gave me the RPG.
RPG's existed well before the SNES, it's predecessor the NES has several good ones that although great games, unfortunately didn't grab my attention when I was that young. No, the RPG's on the SNES were something else entirely. Not only did they look much better, they also added so many new gameplay elements, involving storylines and gigantic worlds to explore. It's safe to say the SNES games made me what I am today, they left a lasting impression on me, one that now more than ever in a time when new games are produced more easily than a new pair of shoes, I am glad I still have.
I've written this article for three separate reasons. First, so that the younger generation that missed such a great
