I have so much stuff in my mind right now, I can barely concentrate in what I am doing anymore because so much is happening in the mmo industry right now...

Maybe you peeps dont even notice it but it looks like the 3 factions trend is starting to pick up some speed!!!! I dont want to feed the lovers of the 3 factions nor the haters but I do see something very interesting here...

It looks like the old school "3 factions player distribution system" used in DaoC and RF Online is starting to pick up some speed after all the games made using only 2 factions...

I know that the fans of DaoC will say that its way better to have 3 factions than 2 factions because of the balance and the haters are going to point out that 2 vs 1 is not exactly a 3 way battle at all... That is not the point!!!!

This Saturday at 8 am the Extra-Life charity event starts. It is a annual  24 hour video game marathon for The Children's Miracle Network.

Yes.

Video game marathon for charity. Awesome, right?

This year I will be going retro and playing Dark Age of Camelot for all 24 hours. (In case you dont know what DAoC is, it's a medieval MMOrpg release in 2001 and best known for its RvR). For anyone that might still play, I have characters on all the realms and will be using the last name ExtraLife, give me a /wave.

Thousands of gamers participate in this event each year. Playing anything from console games to MMO games, even games on smart phones to help provide treatments to millions of sick kids each year.

The Evolution of PvP

Player versus player (PvP) competition has been an essential part of almost every western MMORPG released. Although PvP isn’t as popular in Asian MMORPG games it does exist in games like 9Dragons and Perfect World. Fighting another player is always more interesting than fighting monsters or even fighting a boss, as there is a distinct sense of challenge; a sense of competition, as the victor would determine who the better player is.

Ultima Online had an open PvP environment where anyone can participate in PvP no matter where they were. No need to request a duel or teleport off into a special “zone” designated for fighting. You were able to fight almost anywhere you wanted to. The game’s PvP was also unique, as the game’s PvP combat relied entirely on skill rather than whoever had the best items. The difference between the best weapon in the game and the worst was almost negligible, which created an even playing field for everyone. The drawback to Ultima Online’s balanced PvP system is the game’s boring PvE experience, where monsters were plagued with stupid artificial intelligence and posed no threat even to the weakest players.

This month marks the 6th anniversary of Dark Age of Camelot.  Normally we wouldn't be caring too much about it if it wasn't just a darn good MMO.  I was particularly fond of /kissing people until I got an antler hat.  It was sad days in the Goblin household when "the hubby" canceled the account and I no longer had my "fix".  Oh well, I pay him back everyday by being snarky in my news pieces.

In celebration of 6 wonderful years, DAoC will be adding zone bonuses and fireworks that will last the next 6 days.  Is anyone noticing the fascination with the number "6"?  Kinda ooooky!!!

On Classic or Normal Ruleset servers the following bonuses have been added:

200% bonus to XP in all classic zones and dungeons.
200% bonus to BP in all NF zones.

On the PVP ruleset server the following bonuses have been added:

200% bonus to BP in all classic zones and dungeons.
200% bonus to BP in all NF zones.

(Note: BP was done in both spots as PVP servers already have increased XP bonuses in all zones.)

On the PvE Ruleset server the following bonuses have been added:

200% bonus to XP in all classic zones and dungeons.
200% bonus to BP in the capital cities.

(Note: BP was increased in the capital cities as this is

DARK AGE OF CAMELOT: EA Mythic’s DARK AGE OF CAMELOT is celebrating six years of service, and recently-installed producer, Chris Rabideau has published a party letter on the community Herald. (source: warcry)

Rabideau, who took hold of the DAoC producer reigns in January, says the venerable fantasy title is still going strong and that new improvements to core gameplay and the Housing System are on the way. A new “‘experimental’ test server” is also planned. Have a slice of birthday cake and read up. For Camelot!

“I hope my message conveys the facts that Dark Age of Camelot, after six fantastic years, still has a tremendous following, and still receives a tremendous amount of developer support. We are committed to this game and we will continue to work hard to ensure that Dark Age of Camelot remains a truly fun and enjoyable gameplay experience.”

Known Issues with 1.89a

Unfortunately, some unforeseen issues arose with the release of version 1.89a today and some of these issues will require server downtime to correct.  As was posted previously on the Herald, we intend to roll out version 1.89b next Wednesday, June 20th and do not wish to disrupt player's gameplay with server downtime in between.

The most serious issues, housing objects appearing as invisible, as well as the instances of clients crashing, are now fixed.

Players, with active accounts, who erroneously received a notice their house is in danger of being condemned; should not fear, for their house and lot will not be repossessed! This glitch will require server downtime to fix however, and will be addressed in version 1.89b.

There have also been some reports of anomalies with the Starter Stat Respecs which will also require server downtime to address. If a player finds they are not receiving the correct amount of points, they can choose the "Auto Allocate" option and then manually allocate the points as they see fit.

Archery and their lack of sounds, will be investigated tomorrow as well and we’ll post updates throughout the day for any and all of these issues.

Lastly, players ha
