After the official reveal of the Mesmer profession, ArenaNet devs Jon Peters and Jonathan Sharp answered some of the Guild Wars 2 questions in an exclusive Ask Me Anything session on Reddit. They’ve field questions about the mesmer and just about anything else related to GW2 game design. But of course questions about the anticipated Beta can't be avoided and ArenaNet finally voiced out regarding the highly anticipated Guild Wars 2 Closed Beta.

So, I am not big on the whole flight simulators, mostly since I have motion sickness and they tend to make me want to hurl, but I know there are fans of flight sims out there, so I thought I would share this news. No doubt that those of you who are into flight sims, know about Microsofts line of flight simulators, well now they have a new successor in Microsoft Flight. Better yet now, they’re accepting beta applications for those who want to give it a shot.

According to MS, Flight is supposed to bring a new perspective to their flight simulator franchise, including new gameplay elements, an enhanced scenery and terrain, new aircrafts, and an integrated content marketplace. Well, it was what, just last month that we heard news of one of the releases of Mythos getting shut down for various reasons. Well now the global version of the game just started its cbt testing today and we will have to wait and see if this version will live were its predecessor has not.

If you never heard of or played Mythos, it is an online rpg that was originally being developed by Flagship Studios, which was comprised of mostly ex-Blizzard North staff. As Flagship fell, as did the progression of the game and in recent years other companies have been picking it up and trying to revive it. Frogster tried to in the EU region, which is the version that recently died, while HanbitSoft for the Global version, which we see now. Seems like Mandifesto will definitely have something to do this weekend. Ambitious MMO title Wakfu has just put in what seems to be the last big patch before open beta starts up next week. This patch not only makes changes to various areas, but also introduces two new classes.

The first new class is the Enturof, treasure hunters that are great supporters, as long as they get their prize in the end. On the other side, we have the Ecaflip, a luck-based class whose effects can turn the tide of battle for or against them, depending on chance. Both of these classes should satisfy those with a nose for shiny objects, or those who feel like leaving everything to a roll of the dice.

The way I look at this beta is, that this is not a REAL beta test.

 

A beta test consists of people who are chosen because of their rig, may it be super powerful (so they have people testing at max graphic) and weak (so they can find a definite minimum requirement). People who have beta tested before are great for such things also. Applying for a beta test should be like applying for a job. If you meet the requirements the company is looking for, then you will be accepted. If not, then you will have to try again and wait until that spot as a tester is open again.

 

A number of companies are making this same mistake Bioware for example. SWTOR beta testers were chosen at random (even though you filled out a little survey). Bioware... one of the biggest companies in gaming even did this. EA did the something with Battlefield Heroes where the people that got into beta were chosen at random instead.

Well, I somehow managed to get a beta invite, I was so ecstatic when I received it too. In fact, I am almost positive that my neighborhood was aware that I had received it as soon as I found out. Haha! :)
