If you ask this... I feel sorry for you mate. Warhammer Lore is so beautiful; it brings tears to my eyes. What started as a tabletop game by the gamesworkshop became what the franchise is today, PC games, Art, Hell; even books. Warhammer was another one of those tabletop games with complex systems and different rulesets; Very fun on its own however expensive. Then it went on to books describing more indepth details of the lore.
After the things that won't interest too many, we move on to the PC games which started as unknown companies using the name to lure people... FireWarrior and a couple other small time games came to play but never really shone itself to the world. It disappointed even Warhammer fanatics.
Then came Dawn Of War, which dawned the new beauty of the Warhammer world; an RTS game that captures much of the original warhammer concepts...
But we're talking Warhammer Online now. Created by Mythic and directed by TheGamesWorkshop; we are pretty much guaranteed tha

<th style="background: rgb(144, 255, 144) none repeat scroll 0% 0%; Believe it or not, I miss the days when I had to wait forty minutes to get into my server, because that's what Warhammer is all about. It's not about playing alone and fighting monsters by yourself to gain levels, it's about playing with other people and working together. The good days were when the pre-order members were playing, and public quests had thirty people working together in a giant warband to complete the task as fast as possible. When you could join a queue and instantly find a scenario to play in. When it was easy to find a guild where you could go on at three in the morning and find enough people for a keep siege. But has Warhammer died already? Sure, there is still a large population on the game, but with the chain effect of the game's quality decreasing when the players leave, is it destined to fail in the next couple months?

If you think I'm crazy, go on the majority of the servers and try finding a scenario or public quest party from

It seems that every guild was either just a bunch of people hanging out, chatting about TV, movies and food, that never accomplished anything, or were a strict group where you can't have a life outside of the game type guilds. While I love movies and TV as much as the next guy, and I also love progression, neither type of guild really struck the right balance for me.

In both types of guilds, the other issue I had seen develop was that even in guilds that were progressing fairly quickly, there was no loyalty. I hate to sound like grandpa lecturing, “why back in my day...” but I remember a time where players banded together, and when the going got rough then they stuck together and found a way to progress. Now a days, if you wipe on the same boss more than once, half your guild leaves to find the next guild that promises phat lewt. I was never really in it for the loot, although it doesn't hurt, I really enjoyed people coming together for a common goal and seeing it through to the end. I have been a closed beta tester for over a year and like what I have seen from the game. I have played quite a few MMO's, although I am not quite the veteran others are. I have played WoW, COH/COV, LOTRO, Perfect World, DAoC and beta tested Tabula Rasa. I feel like Warhammer has a lot of features that make it stick out from the other games I have played.

1. Being able to gain XP and level through Quests and PVP. To me it's hard to under estimate the freedom this brings to the game. You can get to the level cap of 40 anyway you want. If immersion into story line and quests is your thing that is the path you can take. War does a great job with their story lines from what I have seen in the beta. You quickly feel like you are being drawn into a War effort, from collecting ammo for giant siege weapons to finding and killing spies. The hatred for the opposite faction is strong among the NPC's and it helps draw you in. If quests aren't your thing and you just want to go pwn some noobs, then you can hop right into RVR combat and level your character that way.

Warhammer Age of Reckoning is due on the shelves in the second Quarter of 2008, that is, if it's not delayed again. Over 600,00 applicants have signed up for the Beta phase of the game; and it has won several "Most Anticipated" awards among others. There is no single word that can describe WAR, but I sailed on a quest to gather more information about it since I've seen quite a few threads here and there about how it compares to WoW. I don't intend to go into every single detail here, just a quickie for discussion purposes.

Once Upon a War

Warhammer made its debut on 1983, it was written by Bryan Ansell, Richard Haliwell and Rick Prestley. It was a tabletop war game, created by Games Workshop called Warhammer Fantasy Battle.
