Why the top 10 F2P MMORPGs with PvP is flawed
By: Zanpakutou in posted at Aug 03, 2009 5:23 pm - 0
Reading that article just gave me a good laugh. Thought I'd write about it.
10) Cabal Online
Cabal Online is good, but the problem lies in the combo system and unrestricted PvP. The combo skill makes it impossible to dodge attacks and the combo system relies on perfect timing. Any lag with the server means you get screwed. Defense matters not dodge since every hit will land. All the special battle modes are made useless by the combo system. Mages get screwed and Force Bladers dominate the game with overpowered debuffs. PvP is also unrestricted in many high level areas. The result? Anyone with higher tier equipment can just show up and kick your ass and then move along. Nothing is there to prevent this from happening.
9) Shaiya
It takes a long time to get anywhere in this game. By the time you reach a decent PvP level and only hardcore grinders. Why? You have to grind up several characters so that you can get a hard mode character with better stats. Otherwise you will be at a severe disadvantage due to having lower stats than someone else because they have a hard mode rather than a normal mode character. It doesn't matter if you're the same level with the same equipment. Higher diffi

The 7 Nerdiest Weddings
By: shine in posted at Aug 03, 2009 2:33 am - 0

My fiancee sent the link to me, unpreparedly I can't believe she said she wanted a wedding like this! Well I myself have no clue how to make a memorable wedding, I've read the 7 weird weddings but found nothing that interested me. In my eye, a normal wedding with a well-prepared ring and the most useful "I do" will be perfect enough. Of course I will not tell my fiancee about that until she drops these ideas. Ok whatever, check the 7 nerdiest weddings below.
Some people just want to have a unique wedding. Something that can truly make their special day memorable. What better way to stand out from the tradition them to have a nerdy themed wedding? It's guaranteed to be a wedding your family and guests won't forget! Here are the 7 nerdiest weddings that I stumbled upon
7) Domo Arigato, Mr. Roboto.
This couple shows their love for technology by replacing the priest with a mechanical man. I mean, who wouldn't want to get pronounced man and wife by a robot?

6) Pull out the Light Saber, and let's cut the cake.
A really touching addition to a traditional wedding, give your entire wedding party light sabers. Although if they were true ner

7-Year-Old Boy Learned to Drive From Video Games
By: shine in posted at Aug 01, 2009 11:47 pm - 1
Last Sunday morning, a Utah police officer chased a car that blew through stop signs and narrowly missed a pedestrian. Imagine the pursuing cop's surprise when the car came to a stop and out popped a 7-year-old boy.
On Thursday, Captain Klint Anderson of the Weber County Sheriff's Office spoke of the incident to Fox News. Young Preston Scarbrough told police he had taken the family car because he didn't want to go to church that morning (he later told his mom he just wanted to give driving a go).
Fox News: "How did he even learn how to [drive]?"
Anderson: "Well, we're not exactly sure except that his father has grounded him from one of his video games which involves operating vehicles so..."
Fox News: "Something like a Grand Theft Auto, something like that?"
Anderson: "I have no idea. I didn't ask the father what game it was but some of those video games are pretty realistic."
The following day, the Scarbrough family appeared on NBC's Today Show. Preston's father, who initially thought the police sirens outside were coming from one of his boy's video games, confirmed that the little lawbreaker had been groun

Video Game Characters Lack Ethnic & Gender Diversity
By: Hyuk in posted at Jul 31, 2009 3:31 am - 0

If you are a white male, the chances are pretty good that you will have something in common with the character you play in your favorite video game.
If you are a woman or ethnic minority, not so much.
At least, that's the conclusion drawn by researchers from the University of Southern California, Indiana University, Ohio University and Virginia Polytechnic. The research is published in the current issue of New Media & Society.
Study leader Dmitri Williams of USC commented on the data:
Latino children play more video games than white children. And they're really not able to play themselves. For identity formation, that's a problem. And for generating interest in technology, it may place underrepresented groups behind the curve.
Ironically, they may even be less likely to become game makers themselves, helping to perpetuate the cycle. Many have suggested that games function as crucial gatekeepers for interest in science, technology, engineering and math.
According to the study, only 3% of video game characters are Hispanic; all of those noted were non-playable characters. Only 10% of characters are women.
African-Americans are more proportionately represented, but mostly appea

This Is How Two Girls Play Gameboy When They Really Love Each Other
By: shine in posted at Jul 31, 2009 2:01 am - 0
Okay it's sorta creepy, I have no idea whether this photo is proper to be posted or not, .it's better to consider it as a photojournalism thing.
Oh and it wasn't me shot this photo, I picked it up from Gizmodo. The author has also shot another five pictures. Guess it might be invasive, let's just focus on how they play that Gameboy...
Alright, Gameboy...I don't even own one so I can't guess what they were playing.
They were "Sitting tight together, head to head, one was frantically rubbing her thumb against the Gameboy D-pad, while the other clicked the buttons. They were laughing, playing constantly, and actually having loads all fun all the way to Manhattan. I don't know what game they were playing, but it was a really sweet moment to see two people enjoying themselves in such a silly and careless way"
Well, it was funny.

Microsoft supports Gay Gamertags in Xbox Live
By: captbasch in posted at Jul 30, 2009 7:39 am - 2

The Microsoft has come under fire from its members over their implemented policy in Xbox Live for gamertags that are offensive and queer. If you use your real surname like “Gaywood” or scientific word “HomoSapien” as your gamertag, you’ll be barred from using it and even force you to change it before you can login to Xbox Live. This is what irked the gay community as they feel this banning policy is very discriminating and homophobic. So last Saturday July 18, the Electronic Arts and Microsoft, as well as other representatives from gaming industry had a conference panel to promote anti-homophobic policies . According to gaygamer.com key rep Flynn DeMarco, the founder of website devoted to “boys who love boys who love joystick”, has convinced Microsoft to implement a feature which gives gamers ability to identify their sexual orientation through their profile accounts in Xbox Live. I have nothing against them. They have every right to be happy and gay in virtual world, just like any other typical gaymers errr gamers out there. How about gay marriage rights in MMORPG, is there such thing as Proposition 8? :)

World of Warcraft China Returns, Like World of Boxcraft
By: Hyuk in World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandariaposted at Jul 29, 2009 11:25 pm - 1
Finally, according to the news, the whole hubbub surrounding World of Warcraft China comes to an end, a one-week closed beta test of WoW has re-launched today, no surprise, you can imagine how millions of anxious Chinese WoW players flooded into every server. As one of the stupendous crowd, I can't tell how I feel, but after a few minutes randomly playing, unexpectly we realize the price of the return of the game. Something has changed.
In the former World of Warcraft(CN) operated by The9, we all know it was censored because the undead race showed too much bones. How about now? I'm totally speechless when I notice something even worse happens. Not only the undead bones are covered by muscles but also those skill icons which may contain blood, crania, devil are turned to BOX! You hear me, BOX!
WHAT THE FUCK??
Look at these fucking stupid things
World of Boxcraft?

Oh yeah, another box, what should I say?
You tell me what the FUCK is the DIFFERENCE between the two models??

Yeah, it becomes my another reason to rage-quit, Although I am not such a big fan and holic of WoW, I still feel awful, especially when the fucking censorship thing occurs. Tod

The Gamers’ Guide to Writing for Games — Part Two
By: neramaar in posted at Jul 29, 2009 6:50 am - 1
If you haven’t read last week’s article ‘The Gamers’ Guide to Writing for Games — Part One’ yet, I suggest you take a peek at it before reading further here. That’s partly because you’ll find that information relevant when reading ahead, but mostly because I get paid more if you do. Why the honesty? Because self-promoting (as nasty as it sounds) is one of the best ways to achieve success in this here writing business, and that’s mainly what I’ll be talking about today. Getting started. Getting better. And getting known.
Getting started, getting better, getting known; and get hired
Getting hired in the writing industry (and doubly so when writing for games) is a long, tedious and often painful process — and unfortunately, there

Nintendo needs to be more sexy in the USA

Nintendo: Banned in the USA
Nudity, Nazis and all the bloody good stuff Nintendo of America didn't want you to see
et’s point fingers! Ever wonder why games are still treated like a child’s medium? Well, part of that responsibility rests on the shoulders of Nintendo of America and the censorship it exhibited during the dominant period of the NES, Game Boy and SNES.
From the medium’s inception, Japan seemed to have no qualms in dealing with themes no heavier than those found in movies and TV, such violence and sexuality. However, NoA maintained strict rules and took great efforts stateside to keep games sterile and sanitized, as if intended for airings on Saturday mornings. Plenty of developers have come forward to bitch since the Big N vacated the throne, but we’ve taken that one step further and gathered visual evidence of all the naughtiness Nintendo of America never wanted you to see.
