German Principal Wants a Killergame Free School

Okay, we all know how this goes. Some kid shoots up his school. Everyone is shocked and blames video games, politicians say a load of stupid crap, Germany bans a couple of games and we all move along.

But after the amok run of a teen at a German school last Thursday (link), where gladly nobody got killed, the stupidity reached a new level. (It seems like no big UK news outlet picked the story up. Not interested if there are no deaths, ehh?) A school in Schramberg, Germany has stated plans to make itself "killergame free". The goal is to keep pupils from playing violent videogames, and thus lower the aggressive potential of pupils and the probability of a killing spree. At least that’s what the people in charge think.

Even if Killergames are not the trigger of a killing spree, Bernd Denning, principal of the Schramberg Second School said yesterday, they still take a major part in turning minors into homicidal maniacs. Even if there isn’t a monocausally relation between excessive playing of games, leading to acts of violence, it still provides a twisted frame of reference of solutions for their problems and hardships, that they learn – and may tr

Aion: The First Look

So while queuing up in the server Lumiel in Aion, I have decided to post a little on my experience with Aion.

As well, I thought it would be a great way to pass time, other then the idea listed in Massively.

It's All In The Details

The one thing that never cease to amaze me would be the amount of detail in Aion. Sure, we all know the capabilities of the Crytek engine, how well it scales (within reason of course), and how good Aion looks in general, but such things will never look as good without paying attention to the detail, which they obviously have.

You might think to youself "This is but a random image taken from the MMOsite picture archive!" True, true, but what you do not see, is the minute detail. Disregard the beautiful particle effects, the detailed character textures, and the shadow system all running really fast on a only slightly above average computer. Look, instead, at how detailed the terrain is, so detailed, it looks like just a sheet of white.

Stare in amazement at the random rock placements, the vines growing up the rotting wooden fence, how that Elyosian girl winks at you. Then be further amazed at how she crushes your heart by going &q

Bootlegged Virtual Sex Toys Get Second Life Sued

Yep. If Second Life's involved, how could sex toys not also be involved? A manufacturer of, uh, intimacy aids has filed a lawsuit alleging that users bootleg, with impunity, the virtual sex toy brand it also sells in Second Life.

Eros LLC of Florida, which produces the popular (or so I am told, anyway) SexGen line took Linden Lab to federal court this week, on a claim that the Second Life operator refuses to take action against users who custom-rig their own sex machines (more or less, they're code that facilitate boinking animations) and then slap the SexGen brand on 'em.

Sounds funny, but microtransactions are no joke. Some $600 million in in-world sales are expected this year, with Linden Lab taking a cut of that. It gets a cut of anything that changes hands for virtual buxx, black market goods or no. And on top of this, Eros does maintain an in-world store, so the virtual ripoff is very real to them.

Eros successfully sued some black marketeers two years ago; this suit represents an escalation. They seek class action status for other merchants who are getting bootlegged. Their allegations will also challenge the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, which protects Web sites from le

The Search for the True Ragnarok 2

It seems like many moons ago I was jumping up and down for the release of Ragnarok 2. The Dimago race, the Ellr race, 3D PRONTERA, ACTUALLY CLOTHES.... it all seems like a dream that was coming to life...

Sadly, it's still a dream. Ragnarok Online 2 is in the deepest darkest pits of development hell. Don't know what development hell is? It's like writer's block for developers. It's a hole that can sometime take years to get out of. Check the MMOsite Ragnarok 2 page (www.mmosite.com/ro2/). Last BETA update was when? Ragnarok Online has to have the longest beta in existence...besides that of Concerto Gate, which is also in development hel- oh wait, it actually closed. I wouldn't have expected that. But I do see Ragnarok Online 2 doing this in the future if it doesn't get back on track! So, what's happening in the time being? Other MMOs are trying to usurp the position of Ragnarok 2! Let's see who these contenders are~

1. Bright Shadow

If we were going to do any OMG CLONE things here, it'd be this game. It's pretty much got the same classes, same monster types, and hey! It even has a card system! Even with all of these clone facto

P2P Games is that really the future of MMO?

So is P2P games are the future of MMO's? first what do i mean by saying "future". When I Say future I mean, what will be played more- F2P or P2P? Well the answer to this question is allready known, F2P of course. But will be more desireble? will P2P still have more "options" then F2P? better graphics? or better graphics?\

The answer is clearly Uncoditonally YES! Absolutly YES! but how?in the last year or two even. We have seen major progress in f2p games. Perfect World, Jade Dynasty and the most discussed Runes Of Magic. ROM is such a great game that its has tons of players, and a first exepension and the game didn't have his first anniversary - or it did? anyways ROM is so big popular just beacuse it offers a p2p experience in a f2p game.  In my opinoin ROM is so big (if not the game then its idea) that it actually threatens, and i'll use Cyrrus Epix words "Big Brother" The "Best game Ine the world" The unbeatble WOW that Blizzard acutally had to launch another expension to the game, known as "Catalysm".

The Only Problem with ROM is its Graphics - dont get me wrong! no no no! ROM has a wonderful gameplay but re

aion

As the last closed beta event ended last August 17, all eager hands are set for the game’s full release in September. The game enjoyed a major positive reaction from MMO players, switchers or newbies alike. If you  haven’t played in any of the past six beta events, then you don’t have that much idea about what Aion really is. Allow me to give you a quick rundown of the game’s major highlights and give you an idea what to expect from the game. (Arranged in no particular order). Read on the top 10 reasons why you should play Aion Online after the jump.

Background

Aion is an MMORPG developed by Korean company NCSoft. The game was first released in South Korea November last year, then followed by China on April of this year. It is set to be released in September to cater  European and North American audiences. Due to the success of NCSoft’s previous titles Lineage I and II, Aion has become the most anticipated game in South Korea ever since its announcement. At the end of 2008, it was  chosen as the “Best Korean Game of the Year” for its “epic scale, immersive story, and stunning graphics and sound design”.

Ever think of putting Contra and Duck Hunt together? How will that be like? Here is the video. Seems like the video maker daneboe is also looking for some new ideas to mix some game characters. Can't wait to watch more...

Another awesome...or wtf story is, someone has created a webpage where you can play old school NES games on the web. You can try them via this link. It's a Javascript NES emulator, but really impressive. Thanks to the developer Ben Firshman..

By the way, I met some issues while open it in Internet Explorer 8, but it was fine to work with Fire Fox 3.52 and Google Chrome. Have fun :D
