Catch up on part 1 and part 2 of this series if you haven't already.

“These are great” the email said.

The subject was the first few missions I had distilled using the web-based editor in Vendetta Online’s Player Contribution Corps (PCC).  The missions included a persistent “character”, no more tangible within the game than a character in a novel.  The missions represented the seeds to a story arc that was undeniably unfinished.  The email went on with an encouraging word, more or less inviting me to keep on doing what I had been doing and see how the “tree” organically grew.

The author of the email was one of the VO devs as one key ingredient to what was becoming the PCC proper was missing at this point: peer review.  However, through the cycle of write-test-revise and c

Vengeance, Connected: A Vendetta Online player's retrospective, part 2

Note: this is part two of a three-part retrospective.  The introduction may be found here.

The month that came to be known as Beta was an interesting time to be a Vendetta player.  Earth and Beyond had finally been shuttered by Electronic Arts and Vendetta was flooded with refugees in the aftermath.  The guild system had just been implemented, allowing players to officially organize around common causes, and a sizable portion of the userbase were flying around with the [EnB] tag prepended to their usernames.  Logging on, channel 100 was scrolling with messages almost too quickly to read.

The universe had been reforged into a much larger place, although recognizable.  Asteroids of familiar shapes and sizes were scattered across the 7000+ sectors in modal configur

Vengeance, Connected: A Vendetta Online player's retrospective, part 1

Twelve years is a long time to play a video game.

I remember walking into the basement of the Regenstein Library at the University of Chicago, one summer after my fourth year.  Thinking I would study, I instead turned to a magazine illustrating the launch of Eve Online.  This was a game you had to pay for, monthly, in order to play.  Not going to happen on my student’s budget.

Instead I ran a search for space games at one of the library’s computer terminals, and turned up a post by one “Roguelazer” on a privately hosted site, urging players to join the “Blue nation” on the Vendetta Test.  He made a few comments about how it was a growing game you didn’t have to pay for, where you actually got to fly the ship.

This was more my speed.

Before I knew it I was signing up for the

Vendetta: Online First Look

I got this game in my email last week. I had no idea what it was or who sent it. But I figured I'd give it a shot at least. The game reminds me a lot of Eve Online. Just not as boring and in depth. "Sorry Eve Fans" With that said it has plenty of things to do.

From what i seen in a day of playing is this. You have a galaxy of missions at your disposal. All of which DO NOT tell you if you are ready for them. So rule of thumb is stay close to where you got them. If you are warping to far away places. And you haven't built up your ship and skills. It will end bad for you as you will see at the end of this vid.

Controls in this game are actually pretty good. It feels fun to dog fight and pvp someone. In fact I spent more time doing that then questing. It pays to quest and farm in this game. It makes you rich fast and stronger faster. Some people like to pvp all day. So if your one of a pack rat mentality and rich minded. Even though you don't pvp all day you be able to blast them.

I don

Vendetta Online: Player Conquerable Station Added

The new player conquerable station that was recently added to the space MMO Vendetta Online, has definitely added a new element of conquest and warfare into the universe. Guild Software implemented this large update initially on January 23, a day for the Vendetta Online (or “VO”) history books. This addition to the game is quite impressive considering the development team consists of only four individuals. Since it's implementation on January 23, the game has had four patches that have gone on to add new features, such as the unique manufacturing mission, to the new conquerable station. Guild software is planning on releasing even more conquerable stations in the near future throughout gray space as all bugs and balance issues are dealt with.

The station itself can be conquered once all of its defensive turrets are destroyed. After the turrets are destroyed, the first person to dock can generate or selec

Vendetta Online Edges Closer to 2.0

Vendetta Online, the space massively multi player online game which places you in the seat of a pilot traversing the many regions of space, has been edging closer to its 2.0 goal. After many weekly updates and years of development the game has progressed substantially in the past few months. New developments including new missions, new badges, graphics updates, icons, as well as a few major developments.

One of the larger updates to the game occurred on May 9th when the developers of Vendetta Online (Guild Software) released multi player ships. This addition allows pilots to man turrets within another player's ship while the captain of the ship drives  the ship and has control over the main weapons on board. Up to four players can be in a ship at a time (depending on the ship) but some ships have smaller maximum crew numbers and can only have one or two turret operators.

With the addition of multi player ships came the new turret shield weaponry. This allows turret operators within another pilot's ship to fire shields from their turrets creating a defensive barrier from pirates and enemies alike. Gray space, the lawless region that conne
