Well it's as close to breaking news as you can get, but world is circulating around the net about Cryptic Studios being acquired by a new company. Just several months ago Atari snapped up the deflated MMO developer, although they did little to help the makers of Champions Online to rise from their troubles. Now a new champion has swooped in to save the day: Perfect World.
According to a press release sent out a few hours ago, Perfect World has bought up 100% of Cryptic Studios. Knowing how hands off Perfect World has been with Runic Games, one can only see good things coming for Cryptic now that they are joining the PWE family. It seems like a win-win-win situation: Perfect World gets another western developer and a couple of US-made MMOs to add to their portfolio, Cryptic gets a sugar daddy, and Atari gets to unload the company and make loads of cash in the bargain.

A few days ago Cryptic Studios relaunched their super hero MMO Champions Online, now dubbed Champions Online: Free for All. - Unlimited Play Time – Play a
Since everybody in Closed Beta Test agreed to the NDA, i only will say a few things.
I am impressed; I mean I am really impressed. I haven’t had the honor to play City of Villains or City of Heroes, so I can’t compare Champions Online with both of them.
But in my opinion Cryptic Studios did a fabulous job – and I mean from the start to the end.
And I am already hooked to the game and I can’t wait for Star Trek Online. If it will be half as good as Champions Online then it will be already a blast!
One thing that I can’t get out of my head is the customizing of the Hero; I don’t know how often I pressed the random creation button for fun. And every time the Hero looked cooler and cooler!
Cryptic Studios you got me hooked to Champions Online and now I need it intravenously administered!
