Atlantica Online Mercenary Review: Elementalist

Mercenaries I Still Need to Earn:

Clown (forgot to add this), Nightshade, Ching Ya, Hualin, Dharma, Gou Chen Nam, Lian Hua, Centaur Archer, Demian Guardian, Folklorist, Necromancer, Maitreya, Chui Hong, Bounty Hunter, Heisha Modi, Shen Ho, Beggar Su, Guanmo, Fangzha, Dryad, King Arthur (whatever his class is)

The Elementalist was actually the second B grade mercenary to be implemented in the game. The Elementalist is an anti-melee champion. This eventually led to crippling overspecialization on her part, but it was great. She can be recruited by doing a quest that requires you to get some items from the Valley of Oblivion. It used to be a heavily farmed dungeon, but is no longer one. The Crystal Ball of Harmony is quite hard to get as a drop, but it is cheap on the market nowadays because no one really uses an Elementalist. However, the Elementalist does have some decent skills and can be used for power leveling if you have a Musician main. Ravaging Melody and Blazing Eart

Atlantica Online Mercenary Review: Warlord

Some of the mercenaries listed above can be obtained right now by purchasing special bait from the item mall and going fishing with it. It will cost you about $40 to earn enough event items to trade in for the mercenary, so if you want someone like Ching Ya or the Demian Guardian, you should try to do it now.

The reason I am doing Warlord first instead of in order of release is because of the recruitment level. In the original region where Warlord was released (Southeast Asia), he can be recruited from Arachne's Nest, the level 94 Individual Dungeon. He is one of the region specific mercenaries developed from fan art contests. The others being Puppeteer, Vampire

Atlantica Online Review (Update 4, 11/11/2015)

It's been a few years since I've taken a whole look at a game once more. I even got a few messages asking to take a look at the game once more. I've been more or less playing it since the last two weeks and managed to make my way to level 167. However, the only thing I can really say is that for the most part, the game has gotten worse overall.

Story:

The Atlantian type main characters now have a different story in the beginning. They were basically frozen and being reawakened. The tutorial is them guiding you through your reawakening. After that though, not much changes. Explorer type characters from the free level 130 character event also has a different set of quests, but it has no impact. Each of the new dungeons sort of has their own story tie in, but there is no longer a long c

Atlantica Online Mercenary Review: Spartan

The Spartan is the first of the B grade mercenaries. From this point on, all mercenaries must be recruited through luck by obtaining an item from a guild or nation dungeon box. Their skill books are only available as a drop in their dungeon or from the dungeon box. In this case, it is an item from the Tower of Babel. The Spartan is the first of the "new" mercenaries that have insanely powerful skills in the form of damage boosting passives since the Prophet. The Spartan has the advantage of being the only spear mercenary to be able to hold a shield as well, giving him a very high defense and very high attack. On top of that, he has two very powerful skills. One that buffs other spear merc

Atlantica Online Mercenary Review: Lady Knight

My tutoring and teaching jobs have made it difficult for me to work on these consistently, but I will churn these out as fast as I can assuming they give enough of an overview. A lot of the older reviews are out of date, but I feel that I should not update them until the other skill changes come. The game is supposed to be receiving a major overhaul of healing and AoE skills as a form of skill balancing. When this happens, I may take a look back at the old ones. Since the last update, I've acquired some of the mercenaries. The next mercenary will be Janissary, a Gun mercenary who only has one skill again. It felt like the developers got lazy in the 90s.

Atlantica Online Mercenary Review: Cannoneer

By: Zanpakutou posted at May 06, 2015 7:03 pm

I had chosen to stop playing Atlantica Online a long time ago, but with no good games out and my teaching credential finished, I decided to take a look at it again. Once again, I'm continuing with these guides if anyone still cares. There has been numerous changes to the game since I started writing and the overall rating system of mercenaries has become invalid due to the introduction of numerous mercenaries. Unfortunately, I do not own all of the mercenaries, so there is no way for me to actually go through all of them anymore. However, I will still do what I can with what I have left. The last time I wrote something was the Inventor, which means Cannoneer is next on the list. I will burn through the remaining C grade mercenaries as fast as I can and move on to the 100+ mercenaries. Unfortunately, a lot of the new faction mercenaries require 4x as many crystals to upgrade. Lady Knight will follow after.

Mercenaries I need to earn:

Roro Kidul, Clown, Nightshade, Empress Tianm

What the Hell Atlantica?

This is a rant about their Kang Tae Gong's Fishing Event. Information is available here

http://atlantica.nexon.net/News/detail?boardNo=300&contentNo=00F97

I have already quit Atlantica for a long time, but I still like to keep up with the ongoing events about the games that I used to play to see if they change or if they continue to run their game into the ground. So for the past week, there has been another fishing event. I believe the last one that they had was for the Golden Tiger mount. Players only get 1 attempt at fishing each day if they stay logged into the game long enough each day. This time it is for a chance at Bracelets and Earrings. These are two items that can only be obtained by obtaining the rare items from the item mall such as Wings, Mounts, and Clothes and trading them to an NPC for AT points. Normally, they are for level 80 or 120 mercenaries, but the recent event gives you ones that seem to be superior to the level 120 ones and you can use them on level 1 me

More Complaints About Atlantica Online

At the current rate, I might actually have to write another review (version 4) to fill in all the changes they have made. Most of them are for the worse in my opinion. Dividing the game into the standard and skirmish was probably the tipping point of the game. You either loved the new system or hated it immensely. It tried so hard to advert pay to win status early on, but with each update, it becomes more and more obvious that it has adopted the pay to win system. Just take a look at how Spelltower functions. Patches are also taking longer to be released. The US version of Atlantica Online has yet to reveal Roro to us. If the US version continues to follow this craptastic path, I'm going to have to do a version 4 and take it down several points to below average.

So not much about the game has changed overall since the last update. However, it has gotten even worse over time. The fight over Oriharukon is still responsible for a huge chunk of that problem. The exception is that there

MMORPG that involves Strategy: A Rarity in the Industry

By: iamjuly posted at Mar 11, 2012 7:40 pm

Strategy in the MMORPG genre seems to be lacking. Most of the time, it's all about your skill build and your gears. The one who has better gears will most likely win. That's how it is with point-and-click games. We are seeing some transition into Action MMOs, however, which involve more skill in terms of moving and dodging. But this blog entry is not about that kind of skill. This entry will talk about another skill, which is strategizing.

Atlantica Online is the only 3D turn-based strategy MMORPG that I know of. Allowing you to take control of a main character plus 8 other mercenaries (3x3), the battle system is simply unlike any other in the industry. If you are familiar with console RPGs like Breath of Fire and Suikoden where battles are turn-based, then Atlantica Online is pro

Lessons in Game Design: Atlantica Online

Atlantica Online remains as the only real 3D turn based MMO on the market. As a result, i feel that this has allowed them to be a bit sloppy and the game has changed a lot since their initial release. I will cover all the past features they had as well including their fatigue system. It was originally managed by nDoors, but nDoors was bought out by Nexon and Atlantica Online has been merged with the rest of Nexon's games.

1) Stamina/Fatigue is a really bad idea
Very few games seem to understand exactly how bad this is. nDoors on the other hand, had to learn in the hardest way possible. Between Closed Beta 1 and Closed Beta 2, they decided to implement the stamina system that were on 2 of the Korean servers. The result? Nearly everyone from Closed Beta 1 quit after half a day of Closed Beta 2. Their main complaint was the stamina system. People voiced there complaints on the forum, but it was all dumped in a sub forum and ignored. The average poll had around 80% of the people who were agContinue Reading
