Why Does Aion Have Such a Limited Audience?

Aion is a Korean MMORPG that has been around for quite a few years now, but for quite a few reasons it has not managed to attract that many players.

I have recently heard from many Aion EU players that they are happy about the server merges because at least during peak time the servers can get up to 2500-3000 players online. 2500-3000 to me seems nowhere like a satisfying amount for a server population and remember that this is after  quite a few servers have been merged. Remember, this is only for the western regions, because in Korea, it is one of the most popular MMORPGs.

The NA servers are somewhat similar in terms of player base size to EU and I keep wondering why people are happy about having a population of a few thousand players. If you look at

Aion EU Improved by Third-Party DPS Meter?

By: DanielCsaki posted at Feb 15, 2016 9:12 pm

Aion is an MMORPG that has been struggling from plenty of so-called hackers, who used various free and premium programs to gain an advantage over others.

The NCSoft-built Korean game sadly lacks proper anti-cheat measures and many of the European players decided to play on the NA servers because of this. It was not uncommon to see players altering attacking speed values or simply playing without animations (NoAnim). This gave most of the playable classes a huge advantage in PvP fights and also noticeably increased the overall DPS in PvE.

The recent arrival of a new third-party DPS meter called aiDPSMeter was so good at spotting cheaters, that Gameforge began to accept it as proof when dealing with player reports. The Animation Speed mode of aiDPSMeter basically detects impossible animation

Aion: AetherTech Class First Look

By: Scion Storm posted at Jan 30, 2014 7:51 pm

This is my first look of the Technist class. I'll start by saying this by far is one of the most OP classes I reviewed. Everything is over the top funny and devastating. It's really supposed to be a tanky class. But from what I seen it does a lot of damage. You can take on things well above your level easily.

Sometimes in one or two hits. When I first seen this debut two weeks ago. I though no way this can be balanced. At this point in time I'm right. But I'm sure they will get it together with patching. For now enjoy the carnage this class brings. I can't see it lasting a week like this. It's far too easy this way. Unless that is what they were going for. To attract more gamers into the franchise.

For this weeks sunday convo. We are going to look at Aion 4.0 and it's new gunslinger class. I am a old school aion player. I however bowed out on the game a year ago around lvl 54. I do regret doing that because the game seems like it's back on track. At any rate here is the first 17 lvls of gunslinger.

AION : Ascension Review

I remember exactly where I was when this game launched. It seemed interesting but allot of that “Korean” animation tipped me off to one thing…Korean Grind. So I stayed back and read reviews. I also had several friends deeply submersed in the game. Then it goes F2P. This was interesting. All my friends and their guilds left in mass. They already where upset with lack of content, bugs, balance issues.

It was so sever, and such a harsh backlash (Forums on fire!) that I thought this game would sink after F2P people left. But US did something most games at the time were not doing. Going truly F2P. The cash market was very cosmetic. That is…the US version…I moved to EU (France) years later and POOF…I got into AION. Very late…but here are my deductions.

One of the worst chapters in the history of mmos

I've been playing this game since beta with recent events have decided it is time to quit. Really I should have quit a long time ago because this game has been poorly managed since the start. There was poor design with the faction versus faction and lots of people jumped to the easier elyos side. Initially this wasn't a very big deal at least not for those that were on the israphel server like myself. At least not until the server mergers. When ncsoft decided to merge servers they did not take into account what server was merged with another and the servers that weren't outright elyos dominated got shafted by being merged with multiple servers that were. It wasn't until after the 3.0 patch that ncsoft admitted to and decided to do something to address the problem and they gave all asmodians on the elyos dominated servers a set of pvp gear, but this gear is outdated and doesn't help to make a difference at all. I really don't even think they gave it to us to help the situation, buContinue Reading

AION 4.0 Bard (Troubadour) Preview Trailer

By: Dododoro posted at Nov 13, 2012 7:00 pm

From the official NA information about this class called “Troubadour” (Bard in Korea) we know that:

The Troubadour uses magical melodies and songs to heal group members, and weaken or attack enemies.Though Troubadours have healing powers, they’re not just support! They could be a real force in PvP…Troubadour can be compared to a cross between cleric and spiritmaster.

The class’s “skill tempo” isn’t fast, and though Troubadours are (currently) not a difficult class to play,

they can be very adaptable to the needs of the group.

Troubadours wear cloth armor.

NCKorea has revealed a video showing just what the maestro can do, from hitting

monsters that emit music with every strike of her bow, to summoning horse-like apparitions.

Take a look below to see the power of the bard!

NCSoft: AION 4.0 shows off shooting star class in a new video

By: Dododoro posted at Oct 20, 2012 12:41 pm

1 of the 3 new upcoming classes for NCsoft’s Aion version 4.0, the Shooting Star class got its first preview trailer earlier. This made me realize why Blade & Soul’s new class isn’t a gunner-type, but rather a melee one. NCsoft will be missing from G*Star 2012, with the focus probably on Aion 4.0 and expanding Blade & Soul globally.

As mentioned, there are 2 types of weapons for the Shooting Star class, with the pistol being the fast weapon with lower damage, and the cannon being the power damage dealer minus the speed.

Take a look at the trailer below.

Straight from MMOCULTURE

Earlier today, Aion Korea begun the registration process for its cross-server PvP tournament. Last week, over a period of 4 days, all 44 servers’ PvP results between the warring Elyos and Asmodian races were recorded, with the top 8 servers entering into the finals. These 8 servers consist of the 4 strongest Elyos and 4 strongest Asmodian races. The finals will be held at the end of this month till early next month, with 250 Vs 250 battles to crown the strongest server in PvP. And each race will get to wear these adorable hats…

In 4.0 news, the 2 weapon types for the Shooting Star class was introduced, with the pistol being the fast weapon with lower damage, and the cannon being the power damage dealer minus the speed.
