It's simple, any characters with short hair and jeans are men. I think anyone who selects an avatar who wears jeans and have short hair (I'm talking boyish short hair) are tomboys.

How do you react to these tomboy characters and should you be warying for the idea that they're potential scammers and con artists?

Company Within Second Life Predicted to Make $219,348 this Year!

Second Life. It’s an MMO platform that we haven’t heard much about recently, however, their economy is still chugging. One company in their economy is SecondAds, which has recently been moving into the gaming sector of Second Life. Why should you care? Because they had around $18,279 in revenue in the last month (using that figure, they’ll make at least $219,348 this year.) For a company that began in a virtual world and is only operating in one, that is an amazing figure. Interested in learning more about SecondAds and how they came to earn $18,279 a month for themselves? Well, luckily, I recently had the chance to interview Amy Neville, the Managing Director of SecondAds.

Second Life To Let Users Filter Adult Content

Second Life creator Linden Lab has announced a series of initiatives designed to provide stricter control of adult content and make the virtual world more customisable for its user base.

The firm will introduce a three-tiered rating system - PG, Mature, or Adult – for all Second Life regions that will be used to identify content and set individual preferences.

Meanwhile, adult-oriented content will be migrated from the Second Life mainland to a newly created continent, with details on the "migration" set to be released in the coming months. Access to adult regions will be restricted to users with verified accounts.

“By enabling individual users to filter content by adjusting their search settings, Linden Lab is able to preserve the founding principles of Second Life while evolving the medium to better serve the needs of its growing and increasingly diverse community. This will provide a more predictable experience for Second Life users, a group that contains a blend of consumers, companies and cultures from around the world,” the company said in a statement.

"Preferences and community standards vary tremendously across industries, countries and cultures

Second Life affair grounds for real-life divorce

Amy Taylor and David Pollard, a British couple who, until recently, had spent three years together in marital bliss, are both avid Second Life players. So avid, in fact, that their nuptials were delivered in the game's virtual world in addition to, you know, the real one. Unfortunately, digi-Amy caught digi-David in a compromising position with a digi-prostitute shortly after the wedding, leading these two fully grown adults to file for an untimely digi-divorce. However, they remained married in real life, which likely led to a few awkward conversations over brunch.

Digi-David seemed to prove his fidelity by passing a "honeytrap" test later ordered by digi-Amy, in which a buxom digi-Private Eye attempted, and ultimately failed, to seduce his avatar. Unfortunately, digi-Amy recently walked in on digi-David and another avatar, who were conversing with "genuine affection". In response, real-life-Amy filed for real-life-divorce from real-life-David.

This report has been fairly sensationalied by the mainstream media over the past few days -- some outlets state that Taylor's divorce lawyer had already seen a Second Life-related seperation earlier that week, while so

Are you sneaking away from work early to get your "Second Life" with it in the virtual space? Well, millions do that every day, so it seems strangely natural for someone or something to port the Second Life virtual environment to a mobile somehow. It's been done -- A 3G service provider had brought the game to mobile phone, and it seems that playing the other MMO games anywhere in anytime will be not a dream.

Second Life update: log in problems resolved

Second Life update: log in problems resolved - Image 1Yesterday, servers conked out and prevented people from logging in and enjoying Linden Lab's MMORPG, Second Life. But not to worry anymore, an official announcement has been made that this problem has been resolved.

The reason behind this problem was that there were multiple issues with various ISPs. Majority of service providers have been bundling network links into large virtual links between different data centers. The bundles experienced some abnormalities causing sever packet/data loss of over 50%.

In order to resolve this, the company behind the MMORPG had to force player to log out of the game so that they could pinpoint what was causing it. Players were forced to log out so that the log in problems wouldn't be causing more damage. It's a good thing that the ISPs were able to remedy the situation.

Now, you guys can free roam the world of Second Life without having problems signing in. We'll keep you guys updated with the latest news on the game. Continue Reading

Second Life Bans Traditional Banking

By: platy posted at Jan 16, 2008 11:51 pm

Second Life creator Linden Labs recently announced a ban on all in-game banking institutions that offer interest or any direct return on an investment without the same government regulation that applies to banks in the real world.

This drastic step comes in reaction to the dissolution of the unregulated Ginko Financial, an in-game bank whose failure saw investors (read: players who had deposited money) lose the equivalent of $750,000.

The decision was widely seen as a necessary step by Linden Labs to avoid governmental intervention.Had the company not banned these unregulated banks, most presumed it was a matter of time before the state government of California (under whose laws Linden Labs operate) stepped in and forced regulations into every financial aspect of the title.

In a virtual world that prides itself on its economic freedoms and boundless entrepreneurial opportunities, that would have been catastrophic.

Of course, the collapse of these institutions wasn't a complete surprise.

The virtual banks whose failures had pre-empted this move (of which Ginko was the most inflammatory) all offered ridiculously high levels of interest -- the sort of levels that, if you saw
