Hearthstone - The Secret of Playing a Secret Mage

By: Gabriel Knight posted at Apr 18, 2017 10:30 am

You start a game and you'll probably face extremely, mindless aggressive Warriors or Shamans, boring Jade Druids, or the yawn fest that are Dragon and Miracle Priests. Even worse, with the new Journey to Un'Goro expansion, Crystal Rogues and Taunt Warriors are the norm, and most of the times the frustration of playing against them really sets in. Yeah, it gets old pretty fast, but a lot of times building a deck can be problematic, and trying it against the same decks over and over again becomes a chore.

Here, I bring you an uncommon deck, the Secret Mage. While it's not totally rare, you won't see it that much, and this is supported by the fact that almost nobody runs Eater of Secrets. Journey to Un'Goro changed this a little with the addition of new and interesting cards to help the d

Hearthstone - The Journey to Un'Goro Begins!

The new Hearthstone expansion has been launched today, and if you're like me, then you'll probably be totally oblivious to anything related to it. I have no clue which cards are introduced, nor the mechanics involved. So, here I bring to you the opening of 84 packs for your enjoyment, which will also let us learn all about the Journey to Un'Goro.

So, wanna join me or not??

The quality is terribad, I know.

I forgot to change it and then I was all like "OMG LET ME DO IT AGAIN!!1"

HALL OF FAME

As soon as the game starts, you'll be informed that some cards are being moved away from the Standard play in order to be forgotten in Wild. They're the following:

* Ice Lance: remember Ice Mage? Yeah, never mind...

* Conceal: what, no more impossible to stop 8/8 Edwin at turn 2? That's... awesome!

* Po

Hearthstone: Captain Blackheart's Treasure

A recycled Tavern Brawl, true, but Captain Blackheart’s Treasure will likely take advantage of the new Karazhan cards in a way that really sells some people on this interesting new adventure.

To give some background, this brawl fills your deck with ⅔ pirates that don’t have any effects on them. Rather than drawing a card at the start of each turn, you discover one. As you may know, the discovery mechanic only works with cards from the hero’s own class.

Being conscious of the cards you’re discovering is crucial to maintaining control over the game’s pace. I personally find this brawl to be a little slow, so I try to go for Druid. As you know, Druid increases its mana rather easily, which can lead to a much faster game. You can play bigger minions pretty early on.

I was actually lucky en

Hearthstone: Nefarian Again?

Yet another Hearthstone weekly Tavern Brawl. This is among the most creative without a doubt. You’re in another cooperative situation like you were against Mechazod, only thing you’re a Priest and a Shaman teaming up to take on the mighty Nefarian.

What makes this fight so interesting is that you’re facing off against an enemy who doesn’t really have the gradual attack growth of Mechazod. Calculating trades is much easier than it was against the last cooperative boss.

The classes are also integral to the tactics of this battle. There are some very interesting mechanics at play. While you have Shaman class cards like Bloodlust and Al’Akir to work with, you also have some Brawl exclusive cards. One minion switches sides of the board at the end of each turn, and one spell can restore boatl

Hearthstone: Anduin's Tragedy

Whether you’ve been playing since launch, or started with the launch of expansions like The Grand Tournament, you’ve probably gone through your fair share of Priest beat downs. It is the universal anti-class. But the class’s days at the top have seemingly come to a close. Is the class completely useless? Of course not.

The Old Gods set included quite a bit of really good Priest minions, from Herald Volazj to Shifting Shade, and a few more. This basically opens the door for some pretty unique and versatile deck. Despite this, there just weren’t very many potent spells. Spells like Power Word: tentacles were helpful, but not as effective as Velen’s Chosen.

A lot of Priest power was lost with the cycling out of the Goblins vs Gnomes pack. Cards like Lightbomb got rid of a lot of Priest’s m

One Night In Karazhan: The Parlor

Today, the first wing of the new Hearthstone adventure, One Night in Karazhan (Titled The Parlor) launched today, and it was something else. Blizzard did a “first” and launched a prologue mission which is free and playable for all Hearthstone players.

It’s super clever too. It puts you as a young Medivh, who is setting up for his big arty. An angry Prince Malchezaar arrives on scene and tries to crash the shindig, which has him met with some aggressive spells in a premade deck FILLED with ridiculous OP cards. This includes Astral Portal, a 1-cost spell that summons a random Legendary minion.

As one could assume, the prologue battle is exciting and crazy. It brings the best elements of mage, with spell cost reduction and damage increase.

The first two boss battles of the real first

Tavern Brawl: Old Gods Recipes

By: Wub posted at Aug 10, 2016 11:39 am

C’Thun can prepare some great stew, so I’ve heard. This week’s Tavern Brawl is all about using pre-made decks. Pick a class, and an Old Gods themed deck will be delivered to you. It’s basically the recipe feature that was added with the update.

I got to try a few of the different classes, and some of them are really awesome. As you could probably guess, the Mage deck is all about Yogg. Casting as many spells during the match as possible, then letting the God of Death come in and kill your opponent. Or do what he always does, kill himself and all of your other minions and end your miserable existence.

For Warriors it’s all about C’Thun, using your abilities to gather as much armor as possible and continuously buffing the tentacled whispering monstrosity, until he inevitably arrives to shred

Hearthstone: Emperor Thaurissan Boss Guide

By: Wub posted at Aug 07, 2016 8:22 pm

With a new adventure coming out in less than a week, I figured I’d commemorate by starting some boss guides for Hearthstone’s Blackrock Mountain adventure. While I probably won’t go over every boss, I’ll cover some of the most important ones. Starting with this guy.

Emperor Thaurissan gimmick is a simple one. His wife, Moira Bronzebeard is a ⅓ minion on his side of the board. If she dies, he’s able to use his hero power, which is to deal 30 damage to his opponent. In other words, if Thaurissan’s wife dies, you die with her. So what’s the name of the game?

Emperor Thaurissan uses a lot of AOE cards such as Unstable Ghoul. He wants to damage his own wife inadvertently. The brilliance in this design is that Moira won’t attack minions unless one has taunt. So you can’t defend your face from

Hearthstone: Stormwind Siege Tavern Brawl

Warriors gather, it’s time to pursue the kingdom of Stormwind! The new Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft weekly Tavern Brawl is a rarity. Rather than competing with other players under strange circumstances, you’ll find yourself trying to defeat yourself?

Every time you do damage to Stormwind, its health increases rather than decreases. This is key, as the objective of this tavern brawl is to our score yourself by getting the health as high as possible. You win when you die, so regardless of your performance, as long as you don’t concede you can get yourself that sweet free pack.

The hero power, barracks, summons a minion from Stormwind. This minion will increase stats based on the attack of Stormwind’s weapon, which gains one attack every turn.

A lot of area of effect cards are crucial
