As probably all of the World of Tanks players already know, World of Warplanes is to be the next title in the series released by Wargaming.net, later to be followed by already confirmed World of Battleships.
The way I imagine World of Warplanes is going to be similar to WoT, yet different.
I believe they will start off the game either with two nations (European conflict, hence the Germans vs the British) or four (plus Pacific conflict; USA vs Japan.)
It would all begin with tier 1 planes like those biplanes from 30's. Then we would have a split in the lines: Bombers -> Fighter-bombers, all-purpose fighters, and interceptors (being, perhaps, jet fighters from WW2 era up till mid 50's.)
Obviously, the main strike force will be, just like regular tanks or medium tanks in WoT, the regular fighters. Their role would be to cover bombers and fight other fighters. Interceptors, on the other hand, should be very fast but weak planes that are supposed to take out bomb
