Guild Wars - After 7 years; Ground to Dust or still a Walking Warrior?

By: KradisZ posted at Aug 10, 2012 12:33 am

With Guild Wars 2 on the horizon of being released to players 16 days from now(this being written on August 09, 2012) or 19 days for those who didn't pre-purchase the question some may have are what's going to happen to Guild Wars?

Has it been finally reduced to dust or is it still a warrior fighting onwards for some attention from players?

As a forewarning me writing this article may sound like a fanboy but that's hard to dissuade readers from this perspective since I've clocked 3018 hours over 84 months. This is insane even to myself. How I obtained my time played information is the simple /age function built into Guild Wars. I was surprised myself the digit was so high. So in a sense it may come off as biased and apologize if it does but I'm doing my best here.

For those who are from since the Prophecies do you ever remember picking up Globs of Ectoplasm from wreckages on Perdition Rock? If you know what I'm talking about then you'll know how long I've

Guild Wars PvP Guide: General Rules for Random Arenas

This is a guide that will help new players become aquainted with Random Arenas. It features general tips for every profession, what each class is best suited for, the game types and how to quickly identify certain professions.

Introduction to Random Arenas
Random Arenas is a Player versus Player game mode in Guild Wars. It pits two randomly assembled teams of four against each other in various environments (called "maps"). In each match, your team must battle and kill the opposing team's members. Maps are very similar to each other, but each have slight variations. All players will receive a Death Penalty if killed. Each death will result in a compounding loss of Health and Energy similar to death penalties in PvE, however the penalty will remain for the duration of the match. Also kee

Guild Wars Beyond: The first Installment

If you are one of those people who, like me, cannot wait for the release of Guild Wars 2 then you just might be excited by the latest update to the original Guild Wars entitled War in Kryta. “War in Kryta” is the first installment of an initiative called “Guild Wars Beyond”, designed to bridge the gap between the original Guild Wars 1 and 2 its sequel. With different parts designed to be released throughout the year, Guild Wars Beyond will pad out the already extensive world and folklore of Tyria and explain how the world gets into such a state in the 250 years between the two games. “War in Kryta,”as well as the subsequent installments of “Guild Wars Beyond,”takes the form of a free update to Guild Wars1that has already been released.

Guild Wars was first released in 2005 and is an MMORPG from ArenaNet and NCsoft which consists of three stand alone episodes and one expansion pack. The subscription fee free game differs from other MMOs bec

So let's look at some games shall we?

Guild Wars:

Always a favorite, it's rather different from your traditional MMO, some might not even call it an MMO at all.  That aside, it's suprisingly easy for new comers to dive into the game and for returnees to transition back in.  And since most of the gripe from old players come mostly from the standard nerfs and changes to skills and gameplay mechanics rather than "this game is now too easy" or "anet is selling out the casuals", I think this is a good place to start.

I. The Level Gap

With most MMOs having a level cap of 60 or 100+ that's guaranteed to keep you grinding for months, it's difficult for new players to feel immediately involved in the game until they've reached endgame.  Because, face it, those leveling zones are typically empty short of a few gankers in well established servers.  No one is around on those maps and the game might as well feel like a single player RPG without a

Guild Wars, Truely Magnificent

Guild wars

To keep this short and simple, I felt the need to announce to the world how great Guild Wars is. It has not fail to bring a stunning world to our fingertips. For those who don't know what is Guild Wars, I feel you are missing out a grand portion of online gaming unless you're not into RPGs.

"Guild Wars is an episodic series of multiplayer online role-playing games developed by ArenaNet and published by NCsoft." I would categorize it as simpily a MMORPG. This game is unique, special and  personally the most defined game in the MORPG market.

What makes a great MMORPG? I'll round it down to community (players), customization (classes/builds), story/plot (roleplaying) and perhaps PVP plus graphics are considered. Not to mention payment is also a variable in this case.

Guild Wars is heavily based on a plot and truely shows the roleplaying element. Many areas are instanced to give you the experience of progression in time and plot. The in-depth lore of Gui
