I finally got around to playing this game (and being able to login which was a big problem and because I had nothing else to play). It's another in a long series to try to make one of the Asian martial arts MMOs big in the West because that has largely failed. Sadly, Swordsman Online from Perfect World Entertainment does no better. In fact, Age of Wushu/Wulin does a much better job.
The story of the game is supposedly based off of famous Jin Yong novels, but I would say that it borrows as much from Jin Yong novels as do most Wuxia novels. There's bits here and there, but it has almost nothing to do with the Jin Yong books other than a few tiny references. The only major thing is an early story element involving a giant white condor and a tombstone of swords. Then the 10 sect system returns which is loosely based on Jin Yong's Wuxia factions though almost none of them are actually similar to any of the Wuxia factions, not even in name for many of them. Today we are going to take a look at Swordsman Online, the latest free to play MMORPG from Perfect World Entertainment. This is my first impression after 24 hours of playing that is supposed to help you decide if this game worth your time.
At the beginning you will only be able to choose your gender and customize your character. The creation menu has all the needed features to help you create a unique avatar, although some of the options won’t change your appearance as much as you would expect. It’s not Black Desert or Bless, but it looks good enough for 2014.
Ok, I am ready to start my adventure and learn more about this fantasy eastern universe (if you didn’t know, Swordsman Online is based on Louis Cha’s popular martial arts novel). The intro cinematic showsContinue Reading
Hello all MMOSITE readers. Welcome to my next and final installment of Swordsman Online. In my last review I covered levels 1 – 10 during the weeks first Open Beta. This review I will push on into the levels 20 - 40 ranks and upgrade the score from my last look. You can find my last look into Swordsman Online HERE.
Here are my notes in chronological order:
So far unlocked next 6 skills from the school I Signed up with. It is pretty cool. Everyone a little different, some the same (AOE, single target, etc..) I enjoy my school (Sun and Moon). – I am habing fun in general! The work up to the 20’s was worth it. I am now taking quests from my “school”, or martial arts style I had chosen. Here I can purchase skill scrolls and learn, through questing, new techniques. I have unlocked my next “stanceContinue Reading
Hello MMOSITE readers and welcome to Swordsman online review. I will be taking an in depth look at the Perfect World's latest title that has just launched into Open Beta. This is my first 20 levels into the game and I will give it a score based on this early experience at the end of the article. Does Swordsman deal a deadly blow to the competition or is it a lights out for the latest Kung-Fu oriented title? Read on to find out!
Can't really tell what body proportions because full robes are on and can't see body well. – Any body modifications are hard to spot since you are fully robed in flowing layered clothing.
Female model is horrendously ugly. Like an alien. There are two skin tones that look like zombie.
A greenish and a yellow sickish tone... – YoContinue Reading

Ok now that this game is out. We get an official look at the Cash Shop. And I can honestly say it's not as bad as one would expect. However, it's PWE and they're still at it. Trade skills in the shop wedding in the shop just too much in the shop......Sigh that aside the game is fun martial arts story. That I'm hoping doesn't get drowned by PWE's cash shop.
Things to note the game still has big time memory leaks. So restarting it every hour is suggested. Also a gigantic number of Age of Wushu gamers have invaded the game. Highly popular guilds like GoonTang and Jade Dragon have joined as guilds. Some of you may know them from AoW. I got a look at many more familiar faces from other games. This was a shock, because I didn't think the game would have such a following.

Hey everyone, so today I'm gonna tell you about my first hour or so in Swordsman Online in the Closed Beta.
I was lucky a friend gave me a key and I went straight into it. The game is about 8 gigs big, not too bad(I generally gauge a game's content by filesize too and what kind of game 3d/2d).
The graphics are pretty good, they're not a dealbreaker, nor are they spectacular, but the goal of a game is to instill fun, discovery, and a sense of accomplishment. Looking good is always secondary.
Here's a look at the ingame.I gotta say though there's quite a bit of cutscenes in the game, WHICH IS GREAT.
Movement and navigation are pretty smooth, however combat so far to me has been a little clunky, but I'm not going to pass full judgment on that yet since I'm still at newbie levels(leContinue Reading
Ok, since people are going to compare Age of Wushu with this game. I'll roll with it and make this review addressing that. To be honest Swordsman is a better game in almost every way. Age of Wushu is more of a trade skiller game. It's more about the little things in the culture of martial arts. Makes you micro manage things keep track of things like The Sims. This is great for people who like realism. The reason why you can't compare the two games. Is they have different approaches to the same type of thing. Swordsman Online doesn't make you do the little things. It's more about action combat and story.
As far as being linear both games are the same. Age of Wushu does a better job of hiding the linear story. By drowning you in cool things to do elsewhere. Which is a very wise aContinue Reading

Swordsman Online is going closed beta tommorrow for Perfect World. I saved this video for the same day to respect the companies launch. No NDA exist I just felt it be the right thing to do. I will be doing a full review on the game later Tuesday or Wednesday. But I've already been playing a few weeks. It's going to be a game you should pay attention to.
I will be streaming the game soon as the American closed beta is live so look at for that. http://www.twitch.tv/scionstorm
