Is Too Much Content Bad For MMORPGs?

Whats up gamers, Zach Sharpes here with another topic video. Today I will be talking about Justin Olivetti of Massivelys topic (http://massively.joystiq.com/2014/08/16/the-road-to-mordor-has-lotro-grown-too-big-for-its-own-good) which involves if having too much content, too much of a history is a bad thing. I talk about all the MMORPG classics and give my take on this interesting subject!

LotRO dev diary details the Instance Finder

Instance Finder, a new feature in Update 5, is a tool to both help find groups to run instances and provide rewards for playing random content. You can use it to join instances with your friends (much like Instance Join) or to find new friends to fill a Fellowship. When you are put into an instance by Instance Finder, you will earn more of our new Instance Currency (Marks/Medallions/Seals), and have a small power and morale buff. In the near future (likely for Update 6), we plan to allow you to further customize your "random" experience by opting out of instances you'd rather not play.

I decided to organize the rest of the Dev Diary as a Question and Answer session, where I make up questions and then answer them.

How to use Instance Finder

Q: How do I get to the Instance Fi

In a recent financial press release, CDC Corperation, the company that licensed the exclusive rights to distribute Lord of the Rings Online in China, reported that not only had it failed to launch the game, but they spent $10 million dollars doing it. Finally after five years, Turbine announced the delay constituted a breach of contract and has now terminated the agreement.

In September 2006, CDC Games licensed the exclusive rights to distribute, in China, Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar (LOTRO), a MMORPG based upon the Lord of the Rings trilogy. For the past several years, CDC Games has experienced significant delays in the continued development and launch of this game. Since initially licensing this game, CDC Games has invested approximately $10.0 million in licensing, develop

Studios, and, most recently their merger of NA and European servers. The developers aren’t stopping for breaks yet though. They’re busy rolling out a brand new expansion to sweeten the experience in Middle Eart

Turbine Takes Control of LotR Online In Europe

Lord of the Rings Online is apparently seeing a shift in command for its European branch. Earlier today, game company Turbine announced that they will be taking over control of the online version of Middle Eaarth. The game's current operators, Codemasters Online, will have control of the service until June 1 of this year.

With this exchange, Turbine is also planning on taking the game to a global platform, rather than the current regional format the game currently practices. The company will be offering free transfers to the new global servers for players of both regions. This also means that both the US and EU regions will be merging together, forming the LotRO Global Service. Language specific servers will be able to stay as such after the merger, and various Codemaster services wi
